Surprisingly, it's not based on a board game.

McG is in final negotiations to direct Puzzle Palace for Summit. Reading the title, you would assume that it is some kind of board game adaptation, but surprisingly… no. The original script by Safe House‘s David Guggenheim centers on a son trying to clear his veteran cop dad‘s name. However, in order to get the evidence he needs, he’ll have to break into One Police Plaza. But how? That’s where they keep all of the police, including the crooked ones who are after him. Somebody had better put in a call to David Morse’s agent.

McG and Guggenheim have a previous relationship, but it’s strictly work-based, guys. Guggenheim wrote Medallion, the action film McG produced starring Nicolas Cage and Malin Akerman. It’s currently in post-production, so hopefully we can all gather together to laugh at the trailer very soon.
Robots? Aliens? Teens in the future?

It seems that the Twilight series is coming to a merciful end. But the lucky corporate entity behind a big part of the Twilight cash cow is already looking for the Next Big Franchise, in the form of another series of romantic-supernatural-young-adult-thriller books. And at Summit, that next big thing is expected to be Divergent. That sound you hear is thousands of teenagers looking up the word “divergent.” Here’s what it’s all about:

“It takes place in a futuristic dystopia where society is divided into factions as kids are categorized based on human traits. A teenage girl and guy rebel against the labels, which is a very dangerous thing to do.”

Maybe one of those “human traits” is “reads young adult novels like Twilight.” Anyway, Summit has purchased the film rights, so expect to be seeing a lot of shit about this sooner or later. The article also has information on the myriad other properties that Summit Entertainment is developing, including one about “teenage illusionists who are bred to battle but instead fall in love.” OK.
