In Argo, Affleck plays Tony Mendez, a CIA “exfiltration” specialist tasked with a ballsy plan to pull six American hostages from Iran. The film is based on a true story, which means that they probably did some research to make Affleck look like this hairy lion of a man, and didn’t just pick this look to make him appear like an ass.

If you’re digging this look (you’ve got two eyes and a heart, don’t you?), then get excited for future looks at characters played by Alan Arkin, John Goodman, Bryan Cranston, and Kyle Chandler. The fake beard guy that’s assigned to this film will be earning his money through blood, sweat, tears.

I hope the beards get rescued safely.

It looks like the survivors’ road trip doesn’t quite go as planned. From these pics I get the sense that they run into trouble when the RV breaks down on a crowded highway. With nowhere to run when they find themselves surrounded by geeks, the survivors scatter and hide as best they can. Soon, they’re all looking on in horror as T-Dog is surrounded. But then the day is saved when Lori and Carol discover that zombies are repelled by the sound of mouth farts. Yayyy, teamwork!! Either that or T-Dog is eaten. Either way, looks tense! As previously reported, The Raven stars John Cusack as Edgar Allan Poe in the final days of his life. Luke Evans plays a detective who teams with Poe when a vicious serial killer kidnaps the author’s really hot fiancee (Alice Eve) and begins modeling his killings after Poe’s work. Talk about commitment from a writer. I doubt you’d see Tucker Max on the scene with a magnifying glass if a killer were to start murdering women in the douchiest ways possible.

They do offer one small layout of “action shots,” that show Garfield‘s Peter Parker crouching on the ceiling of a subway car, getting a sponge bath, and rifling through Martin Sheen‘s briefcase. He’s really living the dream in these stills!

Beyond that, we get a look at Rhys Ifans looking like the scientist who is just waiting to turn evil, and we get a couple stills that have Emma Stone in the mix as well. While there’s not a lot here to differentiate these installment from the earlier ones, the pics do remind us that Spidey is coming, which is probably all we really need to know anyway. Let’s get the info out of the way. These are The Hobbit characters Bombur, Bofur, and Bifur. Bofur and Bombur ar brothers, and Bifur is their cousin. They are the sons of miners from the west and join the quest to get fortune and free beer. Fair enough.

Here is a pic of some other dwarves in the movie. And here’s another. And, shit, I found some more over here. Thank God they’re releasing these pics intermittently! Could you imagine if we DIDN’T know what these dwarf characters looked like a year and a half before the film premieres? I think the survivors would envy the dead.

Firstly, this doesn’t look like a photograph, but rather some weird watercolor rendition of the dwarves. Secondly, what they lack in intimidating stature, they more than make up for with mesmerizing facial hair. Their opponents will be lulled into conversations about mustache wax and hairspray, only to be surprise-attacked but other, non-mustachioed dwarves.

Also, is that first guy’ weapon a giant spoon? Weird. Unless these guys are like wizards or something, I don’t really see what they bring to the equation. The first dude (Bofur? Bifur? Bombur?) is a perfect sphere who could possibly neutralize opponents by rolling over them, the second guy is clearly too busy flirting with me to be an asset, and I’m pretty sure the third guy is actually just a pile of hair.

After being shelved during MGM‘s financial shitsplosion, Cabin In The Woods, the self-referential take on slasher films written by Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard, is finally ready to see the light of multiplexes. We don’t know when Lionsgate plans to release the Chris Hemsworth-starring film, but we know that at least one frame of it exists. That’s a good sign. (Bloody Disgusting)

First up we’ve got a pic from Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon that shows Rosie Huntington-Whitely being led to safety by America’s new favorite everyman, Shia Labeouf. He must have just rescued her from a day spa or something, because the poor guy looks like he has gone through hell while she looks like she’s ready for tea at the Plaza. He’s also carrying a messenger bag and rocking his go-to motorcycle jacket, so it’s nice to see that his character hasn’t embraced the preppy look like so many of my douchey friends have. Way to stay strong, Shia.

Man, I wish they had a picture of a Transformer in there, or something. It would make for a much more compelling image. Oh well.

Give yourself a minute to catch your breath and we’ll move on to a still that is somehow more mundane. If you weren’t too drunk during your Super Bowl party, you may remember the trailer for J.J. Abrams‘ Super 8. Well, one of those quick cuts is back from the grave. In still form. I’ve got goosebumps too, guys.

This project has been shrouded in secrecy, which should be no surprise considering Abrams’ involvement.

As we discussed before in dissecting the teaser, that’s probably not an errant sound guy in the background, but a player in the “movie within a movie” set up. Which means that the movie will features layers of meaning (read: confusion). Keep on trucking, J.J. You’re doing God’s work. God’s frustrating, confusing work.

In the wake of posters that look like the marketing team just ain’t even trying, we now have another still from X-Men: First Class. Last time around, we saw Kevin Bacon‘s Sebastian Shaw chilling with January Jones‘s White Queen in Mr. Freeze’s lair. Today we have a look at Lucas Till’s Havok standing in a burning hangar. Of course, there’s no context for the picture, so let’s speculate together.

A.) Havok just released a blast of plasma.

B.) Havok is the star of a Pearl Jam music video.

C.) Another senseless fire caused by using fireworks without Professor X’s supervision.

These days, you can’t have a horror movie without a frightening, possessed child. Has there ever been a horror movie about a spooky orphanage of possessed kids? You know, why am I even asking? There have probably been hundreds.

Here’s the new poster for Insideous by director James Wan (Saw), which is admittedly pretty freaky looking. It’s about “a family [who] tries [to] prevent evil spirits from trapping their comatose son in a realm called The Further forever.” Yikes. I hear The Further is, like, one of the worst realms ever. It’s got a pretty lousy review on Yelp.

This April, get ready to catch your shrieking girlfriend as she cowers in your arms at the theater, then will have “thank god everything’s okay in real life” sex with you when you get home. However, any project that tackles such a revered work is bound to have its authenticity questioned, but the stills (surprisingly black and white and color) seem to captur the spirit of the piece quite well. However, let’s all reserve judgement until we hear some dialogue. The best DoPand production designers in the world won’t be able to save this thing if “totes” pops up repeatedly in the script. The 1980′s were clearly the heyday of mind-body transfer movies. Fred Savage and Judge Reinhold switched it up in Vice Versa, Kirk Cameron and Dudley Moore did it with Like Father, Like Son, then there was 18 Again! starring George Burns and some other dude. I never saw that one. The 90′s offered a death rattle in the way of a Freaky Friday remake, but it seemed clear that the concept was destined to die off. But Jason Bateman and Ryan Reynolds said “not on our watch,” and came to our rescue with The Change-Up (via Playlist), in which an uptight guy and his slacker friend switch bodies. Shocked? Then we’ve got Dream House starring Rachel Weisz and Daniel Craig, in which a family moves into a new home, only to find that the previous inhabitants were murdered, possibly at the hands of the husband/father. They discover that they are doomed to repeat the fate of the family before them, which makes Mr. Craig register an expression that can best be described as “concern.” (Playlist)

Finally, we’ve got Ceremony which follows a young man (Michael Angarano) who crashes the wedding of a character played by Uma Thurman. This act makes the boy very relatable, as most anyone could develop an infatuation with the Thurmanator. In an interesting wrinkle that could only occur during our technological renaissance, Ceremony is hitting VOD on March 4th and theaters April 8th. (Playlist)

The new Judge Dredd kind of looks like a housefly, and the post-apocalyptic motorcycle looks like something a shop class would have made in 1981. Let’s hope that the upcoming trailer will give us some dimensions that the stills have failed to. (/Film)

The new ‘Pirates‘ appears to be trying to sell audiences on the 3-D experience they will provide with this image. Given that the franchise has gotten a little stale over the past decade or so, playing up the 3-D angle will probably do more for buzz than any aspect of the story good. With Disney behind it, this could be a fun one. (Cinema Blend)

Here, we can see that Spider-Man either broke his arm or Andrew Garfield has truly awful running form. We’ve seen this costume before, and it looks a lot more interesting up close than it does from this distance. Further, this is the second time we’ve seen Spider-Man jaywalking. I don’t to get all preachy, but someone should tell Sony Studios that impressionable kids will be watching this. (Coming Soon)

So far we’ve seen a cast photo, a teaser poster, and a few good looks at the film’s mod style. Turns out that the recent glut of images is a damage control reaction to the original leaked cast photo. When you first saw it, you most likely said, “Jesus!” So did director Matthew Vaughn. He tells /Film:

“I freaked out on them yesterday. I don’t know where the hell that came from. I don’t think it’s a Fox image. It’s not a pre-approved image. When I found out, I said, what the fuck is this shit, and Fox is running around trying to figure out what happened as well. I agree. It’s like a bad photoshop, which maybe it was by someone. It didn’t reflect the movie. I was shocked when I saw it. I was like ‘Jesus Christ’…

In order to manage expectations, he released the following images of James McAvoy‘s Professor X and Michael Fassbender‘s Magneto showing off their powers. Just don’t show these to the cast that have to spend eight hours a day in the makeup chair. Those guys need to call their agents.

First off, we have Kevin Bacon’s Sebastian Shaw looking like Chris Walken in “The Continental,” and January Jones‘ Emma Frost looking like a woman with a delicious rack. Notice the wet bar in the back left. “Omit no detail,” say the producers!

Then we have a picture that some would construe as a “metaphor.” We’ve got young Professor X (James McAvoy) and Magneto (Michael Fassbender) engaged in a battle of wits over a chess board. While many might say that this 60′s throwback is a case of notalgia fever run amok, the fact remains that these stills demonstrate a warmth we haven’t seen in this franchise before. So even if it takes some ascots and a wood-and-leather study, it’s well worth it.

Finally, we’ve got the money shot. The group looking like the cast of a British detective series. Reaction to the earlier “official” photo was hostile, and with good reason. If the producers are going to jump along the timeline of the story to give us a fresh look at the characters, a generic, shadowy picture that graces the poster of every superhero movie is probably not called for. These stills convey a very different atmosphere that will probably be the source of more than a few laughs in the film knowing Matthew Vaughn. Ascots for everyone!!!

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES – You may be quick to criticize these pictures (or the existence of the film entirely) as looking exactly like the other films in the series. Then you’d look like a damned fool. They’re clearly wearing more blue in this film and Johnny Depp‘s hair is on loan from “American Idol” runner-up Crystal Bowersox.

TH GREEN LANTERN – In this very exciting picture, Green Lantern and Hector Hammond are chilling together at some kind of premiere. You can see the Lantern is about to conjure a light ball or something else cosmic between his palms. It’s weird to see Peter Sarsgaard playing the ugly guy. I guess Jackie Earle Haley was booked.

THE MUPPETS – Jason Segal and Amy Adams cut a rug. They will later wrap the rug fragments around Segal’s forearm and hot glue eyeballs to it.

As was done by Delirious-era Eddie Murphy before him, Chris Evans‘s Captain America is intent on showing the world how comfortable and mobile a leather bodysuit truly is. Here Cap glides effortlessly along the catwalk of a military base as he races to the men’s room. Will he make it back before his favorite show returns from commercial? Well, I’m not going to spoil it for you. You’ll have to buy a ticket this summer if you want to find out, friend.

It should be noted that while flexible enough for a full range of movements, leather doesn’t breathe that well. That’s why Captain America recommends carrying some Gold Bond Powder in your little brown utility belt. Gold Bond: Because when you’re protecting the free world from the red skeleton of a Nazi, you can’t let moisture stand in the way. (LA Times)
