It's The End Of The World As We Know It In 'Melancholia' Trailer

Lars Von Trier is famous for making movies that are impeccably shot, memorably acted, and depressing as hell. And so it appears to be in this new trailer for Melancholia, his new disaster/depression movie starring Kirsten Dunst, Kiefer Sutherland, Stellan Skarsgård, Udo Kier, and others.

Even more than the last trailer, this one shows the movie’s gorgeous cinematography and allows you to see a little more of the celestial action in the movie, about a second planet (named “Melancholia“) crashing into our planet (named “Earth“). It also begins with the inspiring words “we are alone, there is only life on Earth.” A happy thought to kick off your long weekend with!

Remember that trailer for David Fincher’s The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo that’s supposed to hit the internet this Thursday? Well, in an instance of real-life intrigue (as opposed to the more fictional, rape-y kind), the trailer has leaked a few days early. This is the red-band version though, so don’t watch it at work if you’re one of those dopes who works on Saturdays (like me). Anyway, here it is – and if it gets yanked by the Powers That Be it’ll probably be replaced soon by a better, non-bootleg quality version. Enjoy!

David Fincher’s upcoming The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo starring Rooney Mara, Daniel Craig, and Stellan Skarsgard is one of the most anticipated movies of the year. So it doesn’t seem quite fair that the red-band trailer was released in the theaters of Sweden and France and not in the US. Furthermore, it’s not even online!

‘Thor’ Post-Credits Scene: A Joss Whedon Film

If you were one of the lucky few that stayed after the credits of Thor, you were treated to a scene that in my opinion was better than anything in the actual movie: A scene between Stellan Skarsgard, Samuel L. Jackson, and the Cosmic Cube. It had a sense of mystery about it that the rest of the movie definitely could have used.

Call it a coincidence, but the scene wasn’t directed by Kenneth Branagh, but by Avengers director Joss Whedon. It all comes from an interview between Skarsgard and Empire, in which he divulges absolutely no other details about The Avengers except for his appearing in it, for fear of the Disney death squads who would bring violent death to anyone who reveals any of movie’s secrets. So, if you’re a Whedon completist, maybe you should try to get a hold of a DVD copy of the Thor post-credits scene – maybe there’s a cool director’s commentary.

Director Lars Von Trier in the master of making bleak, depressing movies that make you question the value of his art as entertainment. So it follows that his movies would be hot properties at any movie studio. And now, one of those studios, Magnolia, has picked up Von Trier’s latest film, entitled Melancholia. The movie is about the end of the world, with a flashback structure showing how it happened after an opening depicting the actual end. Bad marketing, Von Trier — everyone knows you put the Apocalypse at the END of the movie, so the rubes will stay until the end to see it. This way you’re shooting your bloody load right at the beginning. I like you, Lars, but you need to learn how to give the people what they want, like you did with Dogville. The movie stars Kirsten Dunst, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Kiefer Sutherland, Charlotte Rampling, John Hurt, Stellan Skarsgård and Udo Kier. (via The Playlist)

I could sit here and pretend to care about the fact that Wrath of the Titans (Clash of the Titans 2) will premiere on March 30, 2012. But honestly, I don’t. So instead, I give you this awesome trailer for A Somewhat Gentle Man, a Swedish Norwegian film starring Stellan Skarsgård that looks really cool.

Look, I’m not the type of pretentious ass who combs the Internet looking for European movies in order to backhandedly mock American films. OK, toda I am, but normally, I’m not. It’s just a slow, slow morning for news, and this trailer looks bad ass, so take a look. It’s got a midget dwarf little person selling guns, and everything! (Movie Line)

Stellan Skarsgard Flirting with ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’

Stellan Skarsgard is in talks to do take after take after take alongside Daniel Craig in David Fincher’s adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. He would play Martin Vanger, a suspect in the 40-year-old disappearance of a teenage girl. Hey Variety, tell us what Skarsgard had to say:

"I’ve met (helmer David) Fincher; I want to work with him; he wants to work me. I’ve had a concrete offer and now we are in negotiations. The contract is for the period September to March, but I don’t know yet when I am supposed to start my part of the film."

This casting make perfect sense since Skarsgard is Swedish and the film will take place in Sweden. But what of Stellan’s son Alexander, who is ripe for the picking due to his recent "True Blood" success. Not to mention Max von Sydow. The man is a God over there.

Give him a call already, Fincher. He’s practically begging you.
