So the TMZ dudes recording the video with their Flip thought Spider-Man’s flip was hilarious. Yeah, I bet they’re laughing cause they can do that stunt a whole lot better. Maybe add a few extra spins, a mid-way twirl and with the real-life working webshooters they built themselves, they can leap right from the truck to the 10th floor of the Macy’s building. Or maybe they now have $250 from selling this video to TMZ and can finally afford a down payment on a Playstation 3.

Or maybe they’re working for Spidey-hating newspaper editor J. Jonah Jameson, who will not be appearing in the film. No Jonah? Now it feels like the joke’s really on us. (Cinema Blend)

Leary plays Gwen Stacy’s father, Captain George Stacy. Maybe he’s concerned because he knows his daughter is dating a kid who dresses up in a skin-tight leotard to fight mentally ill guys with high tech explosives on the streets on New York. Or maybe he’s concerned because he’s read the comics and knows his daughter will bite the big one soon. During a “Community” panel at the TCA, Glover had this to say:

“It’s kinda dope. You know what the coolest part of it is? He has a backpack, which I think is sick. The part of Spider-Man I always loved [is]: He’s young, and he’s dealing with everybody hating him and he’s got all this weight on his shoulders. [The backpack] reminds you of how young he is.”

Lee broke free of the 140 character limit by posting the following across several tweets. “It’s been an exciting week for me, but I got a phone call last night that really flipped me out! I’m bustin’ to tell you about it—My pal Avi Arad,  producer of the new Spider-Man movie, called to tell me how excited he is about the film. Then came the surprise—Avi told me my cameo is all set for Spidey 4, and when he described it, I realized it’s the best, most unusual one yet! Taylor Lautner look-alike and ABC Family regular Chris Zylka has signed up to shove around Peter Parker. Zylka will play Flash Thompson in the upcoming Spider-man reboot, which recently started rolling film. In the comics, Flash had a propensity to give Peter Parker grief while at the same time totally jonesing on Spider-man. Oh Flash, if only you knew they were the same person. The actress has ditched her ginger locks for a blond dye job because of her role as Gwen Stacy, Spidey’s first girlfriend. Yeah, she still looks hot and I’d totally sling a web or two her way, but it’s just not the same. (Coming Soon)

Meet Peter Parker’s parents. Campbell Scott and Julianne Nicholson will play Spidey’s moms and pops in Sony’s reboot. Nicholson is best known for her role on “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” and Scott is best known as always playing a struggling writer. Parker’s deceased parents are seldomly seen in the comic and have never been brought to the screen before. It’ unknown whether they will appear in flashback or prologue or a scene where Spider-Man goes to Robot Heaven with Optimus Prime.

Also joining the cast is a new villian played by Irfan Khan. His character is Van Atter, and it’s unknown if he’ll be super-powered or just a dick. Speculation is he will play a scientist along with Rhys Ifans’s Lizard. Not all Indians have to be doctors, you guys. Not cool. Not cool. (THR)

Now that Emma Stone is a pretty big deal, she’s having to drop out of a few projects. She was originally attached to Jonah Hill’s 21 Jump Street, but Sony came calling with the Spider-Man offer and it was too sweet to refuse. Does the name Stephen J. Cannell carry no weight these days???

Though she can’t clear her schedule to appear in Jump Street, she does comment that Jonah Hill is one of her favorite people in the entire world. As for Spider-Man, they’re getting really close. With shooting slated to begin in two weeks, Emma just got her hair did for the role of Gwen Stacy. Sony also sent her and Andrew Garfield to science school to introduce the home-schooled Stone to the high school experience. Further proof that people as hot as Emma only exist in fictional high schools. (MTV)

Actor, comedian, and all around angry man Denis Leary is joining the cast of Spider-Man. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Leary will play police captain George Stacy, a friend of Spidey who is also the father of the web-slinger’s love interest, Gwen Stacy. For those of you who don’t know, Gwen Stacy will be played by Emma Stone, who is ridiculously hot.

This marks Leary’s first onscreen performance in a theatrical film since 2002′s The Secret Lives of Dentists. But no matter what happens, I’ll always remember him as renegade Edgar Friendly from the 1993 classic, Demolition Man. I still don’t know how to use the three seashells.

Kirsten Dunst was really close to getting a fourth gig as Mary Jane in Spider-Man 4. Sam Raimi had Tobey Maguire and company attached, but then bowed out to let Columbia reboot the series. Dunst is cool with that.

“I feel like it was time, you know,” she said while promoting her upcoming film All Good Things. “Sometimes they always want to push things for money reasons or whatever and it just didn’t come together the way they probably had wanted or envisioned. I like Andrew Garfield so much as an actor and Emma Stone so I think they’ll be great in the new version.”

In some ways Raimi’s attempt at Spider-Man 4 was seen as a way to make up for fans’ disappointments with Spider-Man 3. Dunst feels happy with the trilogy as it stands.

“I felt like what we had during those films was so special, like me and Tobey and Sam. It was such a unique experience and also because it was these independent minds and actors and you’re making this huge film. It’s great that all these kids are such huge fans and to be a part of a movie like that is very special, especially a good franchise. So to end on 3 I think is the perfect way to leave it.”

No hard feelings, she says she’ll still be a fan of the new Spidey movies. “Of course I’m going to see the movie. Of course.”

Th Spider-Man reboot will go where no other Spider-Man film has gone before, giving the audience a glimpse of Spidey’s life before his parents were killed. At least that’s what Hollywood Insider is reporting. What would they have to gain by lying?

In most Spider-Man origin stories, Peter’s parents are killed while he is very young, leaving his Aunt May and Uncle Ben to raise him. While the reboot is following a similar plot, it will reportedly alter the time-line, bumping Peter’s age up to between 6 and 9 at the time of his parents’ death. I’m not sure what this will accomplish other than to launch the career of another promising child actor, the likes of which we haven’t seen since Jake Lloyd. (Hollywood Insider via Cinema Blend)

It looks like Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man isn’t quite the pimp we expected him to be. The Wrap reports that Mary Jane Watson will not appear in the Sony’s franchise reboot. Red-headed Watson appeared in the three previous films, but didn’t factor into the life of Peter Parker until later in the comics. They’ve decided to stay closer to that classic comic storyline with Spidey’ high school honey Gwen Stacy being his one and only.

As previously reported, Emma Stone will play Gwen Stacy, but now there’s new news that when Sony cast her, they didn’t know who she would play. They just knew that they wanted to exploit our collective geek crush by getting her. After casting, it was decided the red-headed Stone would play the blonde Stacy. Shortly after, an office production assistant was sent out to pick up a box of L’Oreal Superior Preference Dream Blonde.

Sony and Marc Webb have just reminded Sally Field that she’s not a spring chicken anymore in the nicest way possible. The Oscar-winner is in talks to join the Spider-Man reboot that is ramping up for a December start. It’s reported that she will play Martin Sheen wifey and Peter Parker mother-figure Aunt May. But what if this is a big misdirect?

Could it be that Spidey is teaming up with the Flying Nun this time around to take down the threat of the Lizard? Or perhaps, she’ll be the baddie. Look at the way she flies around with that glider wimple. That’s Oscorp tech if I’ve ever seen it. (THR)

If all goes as planned for the folks behind the upcoming Spider Man reboot, we’ll soon see Martin Sheen shot to death at the hands of an anonymous burglar. If we’re lucky, he might even utter a few blood-choked words of deathbed wisdom. Sheen is in the final round of talks to play Uncle Ben, Peter Parker’s former father figure-turned-corpse whose death prompts Parker to walk the streets at night in red latex. As a superhero, of course, not a whore.

Sheen will star alongside Andrew Garfield as Parker, Rhys Ifans as the film’s villain, the Lizard, and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Parker’s latest damsel in distress. Marc Webb is set to direct the reboot, with production currently slated to begin in December.

Now that Spider-Man has a love interest and a reptilian nemesis, it’s time to figure out who will play his comically gruff boss. J.K. Simmons owned the role of J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi‘s Spidey films, but won’t be returning for the high school-based reboot. Which means Hollywood’s silverhairs are all up for the part.

It’s reported that a dozen or so actors are being discussed for the part (which will inevitably go to Liam Neeson, everything goes to Liam Neeson), including "Mad Men’s" John Slattery and every cowboy movie ever’s Sam Elliott. Hopefully the search will continue because I can’t see either of these guys in the role. Slattery’s too pretty and Sam Elliott’s moustache (though awesome) is just too much for this film to handle. Personally, I’d like to see Mel Gibson in the role. He’s looking to trick us into liking him again and dude is seriously good at yelling. Like Olympics good at it.

Sony wants little young white boys. The studio is currently casting for miniature versions of Spider-man and The Lizard for their Spider-man reboot, which recently added Rhys Ifans as adult Lizard. Moviehole has the specs:

Sony wants a dark-haired Caucasian boy to play actor Peter Parker at age 4 to 6 years old . Ideally, the boy should look a little like Andrew Garfield. In addition, the studio’s on the hunt for an actor to play Billy Connors, the son of Dr. Curt Connor. Applicants need be between 8 and 11 years old.

Don’t flip your sh*t, I’m sure the kiddies won’t be a huge part of the storyline. They’ll most likely be featured in minimal flashbacks. I seem to remember that comic issue when Peter egged Billy’s house on Halloween and Curt took the belt to his son for fraternizing with lowlifes. Yeah, I definitely read that in a comic and didn’t manifest it subconciously to block out a traumatic childhood event.

Marvel wasn’t just going to let DC own the day by announcing Tom Hardy will be a villain in the next Batman. Nuh uh. They’ve just announced that recently cast Rhys Ifans will be playing Dr. Curt Connors a.k.a. The Lizard in Marc Webb‘s Spider-man reboot. Poor Dylan Baker. He had to keep his arm inside of his shirt for the previous Spider-man movies, pretending that he was an amputee, and he never even got the chance to turn into a reptile.

Red-headed and adorable Emma Stone from Easy A and Zombieland has been officially cast in the Spider-man reboot, but not as the red-headed and adorable Mary Jane Watson. Stone will play Gwen Stacy, Peter Parker’s blonde-haired first love interest. Say whaaaaaaat, director Marc Webb?

“The chemistry between Andrew (Garfield) and Emma was stunning and made Emma the clear choice.  At the heart of the story of Peter Parker is not only the amazing Spider-Man, but also an ordinary teenager who is wondering what he has to do to get the girl.  Andrew and Emma will bring everything audiences expect to these roles, but also make them their own. Much to my surprise, it was fun to find out that our choice for Gwen (Emma) is also a natural blonde.”

Sony Pictures will offer Easy A star Emma Stone the role of Mary Jane Watson in the Spider-man Reboot, Deadline is reporting. I imagine the actress will say yes, unless she hates the feel and smell of money. If this news is true, thank God they’ve knocked out one more casting decision.

Next one up is the role of Gwen Stacy, Spidey’s first love. The actresses currently in contention are Dianna Agron, Mia Wasikowska, Georgina Haig, and Dominique McElligott. My personal chose would be Agron, as her name is the easiest to spell and I’m sure I’ll be writing about Spider-man upwards of fifty thousand times over the next few years. Alright, she’s also got a smile that could melt cold hearts. I hope you’re happy. Now I’m emoting.

Yaaaaaay, more Spider-man reboot love interest casting news. Dianna Agron, who plays teenage mother and cheerleader Quinn in "Glee," and Georgina Haig, star of Toronto Film Festival hit Wasted on the Young, are being considered to get Peter Parker’s spidey sense and loins tingling. We previously reported that Emma Stone and Mia Wasikowska are also in the race. The actresses are vying for the roles of Gwen Stacy, Peter Parker’s first love, and Mary Jane Watson, the redhead who comes along later. The contenders could of course change at any moment, as all of them might be unavailable or smell funny.

Deadline is also reporting that there are early unconfirmed talks that Sony and director Marc Webb are looking at Philip Seymour Hoffman to play the film’s villain, Venom. Say whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? Have they seen the man lately? Don’t get me wrong, he’s an amazing actor, but he isn’t exactly lithe. I don’t remember side stitches as one of Venom’s super powers.

Director Marc Webb has reportedly auditioned Emma Stone for the part of Mary Jane in his upcoming Spider-Man reboot. Stone, who was most recently seen in Easy A, would take over for Kirsten Dunst who played Mary Jane in the first three films.

There are also reports that Webb is auditioning Mia Wasikowska for the part of Gwen Stacy, Spidey’s first love. If true, it sounds like we might have a good old-fashioned cat-fight on our hands. Of course I’m referring to Puma (a.k.a. Thomas Fireheart), Spider-Man’s nemesis with the ability to morph into a powerful humanoid mountain lion werecat! (Vulture)

I hope you’re all well-rested because the casting search for Spider-man’s girlfriend has finally kicked off. We’re going to track this thing over the next few months until director Marc Webb and Sony cut through all the bullsh*t and send out an official press release. Oh you better believe there are going to be rumors galore that we’ll report on until you beg for mercy. But even then we won’t quit because this is Spider-man damnit! You NEED to know every. Single. Little. Detail about every decision made and every actress cast aside. So let’s get the hell on with it then. I’M PUMPED!

The first batch of frontrunners to possibly share an on-screen kiss with Spider-man are Teresa Palmer, Imogen Poots, Emma Roberts, Ophelia Lovibond, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Lily Collins. Haven’t heard of half of them? Yeah, well you hadn’t heard of Andrew Garfield either but he’s Spider-man now, isn’t he? My vote is for Lily Collins simply because she’s the spawn of Phil Collins. Maybe she can get her dad to write an original song for the film. Eeeeeeeeeee!!! (Vulture)

There’s a rumor going around Tinz Town that Christoph Waltz may encourage Mary Jane Watson to wait for the cream. The Inglourious Basterds bad man is said to be in Sony’s sights to play the villian in the upcoming Spider-Man 3D reboot. Note that they are only interested. Waltz hasn’t indicated that he’s interested. However, he did agree to star in Paul W. S. Anderson’s Three Musketeers, so it’s not like he’s picky.

Whether Waltz is sought for the role of the Lizard or Green Goblin is unclear as of right now. Perhaps he’s a method actor and got lost in his Basterds‘ Jew Hunter role. Y’know, you see the name "Spiderman" on paper and you just kinda assume. (The Playlist)

Good news, Spider-Man fans! A release date has been set for the reboot.

Bad news, Spider-Man fans. It’s not coming out until July 3, 2012. This means we’ll have to wait almost two-full years to see Andrew Garfield step into the red and blue tights. Chances are, some of us might die before it comes out. A few of us might even lose our virginity in that time span. Both are scary thoughts, but it’s not my intention to frighten. I just want everyone to be extra careful when going up and down the stairs to their parents basement so we can all stay healthy enough to bitch about the film on July 4th, 2012. (Empire Online)

The road to casting Andrew Garfield for Marc Webb’s Spider-Man reboot was a bumpy one at best. As the time for a decision drew near, the filmmakers whittled their list of hopefuls down to five young actors. One of these hopefuls was Josh Hutcherson, who was once the rumored front-runner to walk in Tobey Maguire‘s shadow. Though we’ll never see Hutcherson play Parker on the big screen, we can now see him in an awkwardly-staged audition video.

Latino Review was able to unearth the tape that caught the attention of Sony execs and Marc Webb. It’s rumored to have been choreographed by fight choreographer Larnell Stovell, and shows Hutcherson’s Parker squaring off against a gang on high school bullies, who he easily flings into well-placed exercise mats. It really is such a good thing that those mats were there. Check out the video here and let us know what you think of Hutcherson as Parker. He looks like too much like he should be playing keyboards for Panic At The Disco to me.

Sony made the official announcement at a press event in Cancun, Mexico for international journalists attending a media tour promoting upcoming films from Sony Pictures Entertainment. Personally, I feel Garfield is more suited to play Ichabod Crane or bass in Coldplay than Spider-man, but what do I know. I don’t run a studio and sleep on 2,000 thread count sheets. Yet…

Andew Garfield has been officially for real seriously chosen as the new Spider-man/Peter Parker in the reboot to be directed by Mark Webb. We’ve reported all kinds of rumors and hearsay, but the studio made the official announcement today at a press event in Cancun, Mexico for international journalists attending a media tour promoting upcoming films from Sony Pictures Entertainment.

On selecting Garfield, director Marc Webb said, “Though his name may be new to many, those who know this young actor’s work understand his extraordinary talents. He has a rare combination of intelligence, wit, and humanity. Mark my words, you will love Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker.”

Words marked, Mark Webb. Garfield is starring in the upcoming David Fincher film The Social Network and Mark Romanek‘s next, Never Let Me Go opposite Keira Knightley and Carey Mulligan. He seems to be partial to directors who made a name for themselves in the music video and commercial world before transitioning into features.

Okay, so we can all stop worrying about the new Spider-man now. It’s Andrew Garfield. They start shooting in December. And don’t you DARE start asking about Mary Jane yet. I will lose my sh*t.

Marc Webb and Sony have finally selected a young actor to play Peter Parker from their list of young actors not quite right for the role of Peter Parker. According to a source at Blue Sky Disney Blog, Josh Hutcherson has been offered the role in Sony’s Spider-Man reboot and he has accepted. Casting has been in the works for some time and after extensive test shoots, Hutcherson has come out on top. Bear in mind that there hasn’t been an official press release from the studio at this time. So if this turns out to be wrong, pick a fight with Disney’s army of lawyers.

Apologies to Jamie Bell, Andrew Garfield, Frank Dillane, Logan Lerman, Alden Ehrenreich, and Anton Yelchin. You guys played a good game out there, but you still lost. No victory Baskin Robbins visit for you.
