Beginning with "Alien," this series has showcased this genre to the fullest, continuing with three sequels which include "Aliens," "Alien 3," and "Alien: Resurrection."
The "Star Wars" Saga. The world of fantasy and the scope of every space movies list expanded when George Lucas unleashed the "Star Wars" franchise. Complete with six films which include "The Phantom Menace," "Attack of the Clones," "Revenge of the Sith," "A New Hope," "The Empire Strikes Back," and "Return of the Jedi," this saga brought space movies to a whole new level.
The "Star Trek" Franchise. Gene Roddenberry took the concept of "2001: A Space Odyssey" even further when he invented the "Star Trek" franchise in the 1960's. Since its creation, the franchise has launched several television shows and eleven movies. This set of space movies has proven to be among the most successful ever made.
