However, this third-grade science fair costume does seem to be a bit more intricate than most mocap suits and may likely provide a hint of what’s to come. Take a look below and here’s hoping the final realized version looks more like the Rhino and less like a robotic moose knuckle.

First Look At Jamie Foxx As Dr. Nutsack Electro In ‘Amazing Spider-Man 2′ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/first-look-at-jamie-foxx-as-dr-nutsack-electro-in-amazing-spider-man-2/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/first-look-at-jamie-foxx-as-dr-nutsack-electro-in-amazing-spider-man-2/#comments Tue, 16 Apr 2013 16:41:30 +0000 Wookie Johnson http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=254419 When it was announced that Jamie Foxx would play Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, we all immediately knew that he would look ridiculous. But we didn’t count on this. This is a version of ridiculous that didn’t even enter our framed realms of possibility.

Set photos have revealed a first look at Foxx that point to the Ultimate Spider-Man version of Electro for inspiration. Or Mr. Freeze’s nutsack. Both are accurate estimations. Not pictured in these photos are Electro’s awesome costume that Foxx has mentioned in past interviews. Instead, we see Foxx dressed in a hoodie and overcoat stumbling through the streets of Manhattan — a look often referred to as “the Cuba Gooding, Jr.” (The Superficial)

The Creepy Kid From ‘Chronicle’ To Play Harry Osborn In ‘Amazing Spider Man 2′ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/the-creepy-kid-from-chronicle-to-play-harry-osborn-in-amazing-spider-man-2/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/the-creepy-kid-from-chronicle-to-play-harry-osborn-in-amazing-spider-man-2/#comments Mon, 03 Dec 2012 20:29:11 +0000 Wookie Johnson http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=252223 After an intense search of actors we’ve barely heard of, Sony and Marc Webb have found their Harry Osborn for the Amazing Spider Man sequel. Not surprisingly, the role went to the most buzzed about actor on the short list.

Chronicle’s Dane DeHaan was announced to have won the part when director Marc Webb tweeted: “Meet Harry Osborn. So excited to have him on board. @danedehaan.”

He’ll join the returning Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, as well as Jamie Foxx‘s Electro and Shailene Woodley’s Mary Jane. DeHaan turned in an impressive performance in Chronicle as a troubled teen corrupted by super powers. It’s unclear what kind of work he’ll have to do in this film, but would prove a fine choice if he suits up as the Green Goblin in future sequels. (THR)

‘G.I. You need a professional accustomed to making Alex Pettyfer not look ridiculous in fur underpants. Sony knows this, and it seems they’re not f&*^ing around.

The studio has approached G.I. Joe: Retaliation director Jon M. Chu to helm their long-gestating Masters of the Universe film. I really do feel like he’s the perfect guy for the job. While the first G.I. Joe movie was brainless fun, Retaliation looks more believable and grounded. Or as believable and grounded as a movie about ninjas fighting on cliff faces can be. My point is, yes, hire that man. I’m ready for a gritty take on the world of Eternia. And to see Alexandra Breckinridge wear Teela’s golden ram-horned halter top. (THR)

New ‘Amazing Spider Man’ Trailer Thickens The Plot http://www.screenjunkies.com/video/amazing-spider-man/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/video/amazing-spider-man/#comments Fri, 04 May 2012 13:22:20 +0000 Wookie Johnson http://www.screenjunkies.com/?post_type=video&p=248433 Not to be outdone in the week that brings us a final Dark Knight Rises trailer and the release of The Avengers, Sony is back with another trailer for this summer’s The Amazing Spider-Man. Here we’re pulled into Peter Parker’s world as he web-slings high about the streets of…. Neo-Tokyo? I guess that’s the super-slick Hollywood version of New York City. Filmed on location in the Neon Skyscraper District.

In addition to the action, we’re also given a glimpse of the mystery. Who is that raspy-voiced, shadowy figure demanding to know if Dr. Curt Connors told Peter the truth about his father. Is it Norman Osborne? Peter’s dad?? Denis Leary after a heavy smoking day??? All will be revealed when The Amazing Spider-Man opens in theaters on June 30th.

Sony Picks Up Steve Jobs Biography Because, Hey, Steve Jobs http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/sony-picks-up-steve-jobs-biography-because-hey-steve-jobs/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/sony-picks-up-steve-jobs-biography-because-hey-steve-jobs/#comments Fri, 07 Oct 2011 23:46:29 +0000 Penn Collins http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=231728 Because the internet news cycle dictates that we report all things Jobs and Apple until 6 PM PDT today, we bring you news that Steve Jobs biography, which has been rushed since news of his death broke, has been optioned as a film by Sony Pictures.

The book, intuitively titled Steve Jobs, clocks in at 448 pages and is comprised of interviews with over 40 of his friends, family, and co-workers. Since the book isn’t released for a few weeks, it’s hard to know what to expect from a movie. I would assume it’s going to be like Ray or Walk the Line, but with a lot more turtlenecks and iPhones.

Starz Tells Netflix To Pound Sand (Probably) http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/starz-tells-netflix-to-pound-sand-probably/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/starz-tells-netflix-to-pound-sand-probably/#comments Fri, 02 Sep 2011 12:27:05 +0000 Wookie Johnson http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=226992 Your window for watching Harry and the Hendersons and Steve Austin in Hunt to Kill on a stoned whim is slowly closing. Starz has announced that they will not renew their content deal with the Netflix Instant digital streaming service meaning that Netflix will lose access to newer titles from Sony and Walt Disney as of February 28th, 2012. Though it does mean that they can use the money earmarked for the Starz deal elsewhere (and better).

ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Sept. 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Starz, LLC, President and Chief Executive Officer, Chris Albrecht, issued the following statement today regarding the status of affiliation agreement renewal discussions with Netflix.

“Starz Entertainment has ended contract renewal negotiations with Netflix. When the agreement expires on February 28, 2012, Starz will cease to distribute its content on the Netflix streaming platform. This decision is a result of our strategy to protect the premium nature of our brand by preserving the appropriate pricing and packaging of our exclusive and highly valuable content. With our current studio rights and growing original programming presence, the network is in an excellent position to evaluate new opportunities and expand its overall business.”

This is annoying as now we’ll all have to work a little harder to see Lucy Lawless‘s boobs.

Sony’s teaser for The Amazing Spider-Man has leaked in advance of Comic-Con. Much like comic book and movie lovers probably did upon viewing the trailer.

Overall, it looks like a somewhat darker look at the webslinger. Here, Andrew Garfield‘s Peter is portrayed as more of a sensitive loner than Tobey Maguire‘s total nuuurd take on the character. It’s a little light on the action but we are privy to a bridge shot where something (most likely the Lizard) is throwing cars into the air with ease as well as a Spidey POV shot as he swings from Manhattan rooftops which looks like a really cool video game intro. Let’s hope those effects aren’t slated to appear in the final film.

30 photosThe Best Of The Spider-Man Meme

I’ve been curious to find out how different The Amazing Spider-Man will be from the previous films, and today I think I got my answer in the form of these new stills from the film. While yesterday’s glimpse at Sony‘s new take on the arachnid showed off the costume, the web shooters, and Emma Stone looking pretty hot, there was one aspect of the film that was avoided. Namely, Spider-Man being kind of a jerk.

In these pics we see him steal food from the elderly, dress like Hollow Man, and dunk on a special needs classmate. Unless Sony chose to adapt the Spider-Man Meme. In which case, I’m in total support. (EW)

It looks like Limitless‘s Neil Burger is the man for the job.

There’s no word whether or not Mark Wahlberg will remain attached to star but you’d assume he’d much rather mine for Oscar gold with a Fighter sequel than swing around in the jungle and fall in rivers where weird parasites could swim up his pee-pee. Could this be Nathan Fillion‘s chance? Or is the part totally going to be offered to Limitless star Bradley Cooper? (It’s totally going to be offered to Limitless star Bradley Cooper.) (Variety)

Sony Gets Its Hands On A Sweet ‘Sex Tape’ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/sony-gets-its-hands-on-a-sweet-sex-tape/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/sony-gets-its-hands-on-a-sweet-sex-tape/#comments Sat, 04 Jun 2011 22:16:52 +0000 Joseph Gibson http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=214833 Sony Pictures is all about giving the people what they want. And so the people apparently want a comedy about a married couple who makes, and then loses, a sex tape. This is apparent because Sony has paid an absurdly large figure for a spec script with just that premise.

6 photosGal Gadot

The script is by Kate Angelo (who also wrote The Back-Up Plan), and it follows the adventures of the aforementioned married couple as they try to retrieve their sex tape from the hands of … whoever would steal a married couple’s sex tape. The producers are Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch, who also came up with the idea. No information on casting or anything like that, but for some reason I’m visualizing a Date Night reunion between Steve Carell and Tina Fey. That seems plausible, right? (Deadline)

That’s so boring. Cool criminals are robbing space stuff, where the real money’s at. Yesterday there was talk about director Doug Limon‘s sci-fi heist story – about a group of engineers attempting to steal crazy moon energy – finally getting off the ground. Now it might be director Will Gluck‘s (Easy A) turn to swipe his piece of the big cheese rock in the sky for Sony Pictures.

Gluck is in talks to adapt the forthcoming book Sex on the Moon by author Ben Mezrich (The Social Network). It’s a story everyone can relate to: Boy meets Girl, Boy gets NASA Internship, Boy attempts to steal a piece of the moon Johnson Space Center and sell them online to impress Girl, followed by hijinks. Space hijinks, the best kind. Good luck to Mezrich, who’s looking to continue his streak of selling his book’s movie rights before most people have even read them.

“Sex On The Moon” will be released July 12th. Gluck’s new comedy, Friends With Benefits with Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis, gets into bed with theaters July 22nd. (LA Times)

Francis Lawrence is at the helm of a period biopic about the late wizard for Sony. Wait. He’s not a superhero and he doesn’t have a wise-cracking buddy? Booooooring.

I will say that all of these projects could be good news for Robin Williams. Look at that newspaper illustration. Dude, is straight up Mork! The actor/writer is in talks to helm The Kitchen Sink for Sony Pictures, the studio from whom he co-wrote and co-stars in 21 Jump Street. Kitchen Sink centers around high school aged zombie, vampire and human who team up to fight aliens invading their hometown. Think The Breakfast Club meets all those mash-up novels publishers are churning out. In fact, writer Oren Uziel - whose screenplay was blacklisted – got the title from the idea that everything, including the kitchen sink, was in this film. Still no word yet then on how pirates, robots and leprechauns are worked in.

I’m imagining Hill having an awkward argument with one of the actors, then they make up and have a longish hug, but somebody else walks in – sees the hug – and wonders if they’re gay. What a delightful misunderstanding. (Deadline)

Pic Round-Up: Pirates, Spider-Men, And Judges, Oh My! http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/pic-round-up-pirates-spider-men-and-judges-oh-my/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/pic-round-up-pirates-spider-men-and-judges-oh-my/#comments Fri, 21 Jan 2011 21:11:56 +0000 Penn Collins http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=21426 When it rains (production stills), it pours (production stills). Today it pours, with single images from Judge Dredd, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and a seemingly unofficial photo from the set of Spider-Man. What can we glean from these stills?

The new Judge Dredd kind of looks like a housefly, and the post-apocalyptic motorcycle looks like something a shop class would have made in 1981. Let’s hope that the upcoming trailer will give us some dimensions that the stills have failed to. (/Film)

The new ‘Pirates‘ appears to be trying to sell audiences on the 3-D experience they will provide with this image. Given that the franchise has gotten a little stale over the past decade or so, playing up the 3-D angle will probably do more for buzz than any aspect of the story good. With Disney behind it, this could be a fun one. (Cinema Blend)

Here, we can see that Spider-Man either broke his arm or Andrew Garfield has truly awful running form. We’ve seen this costume before, and it looks a lot more interesting up close than it does from this distance. Further, this is the second time we’ve seen Spider-Man jaywalking. I don’t to get all preachy, but someone should tell Sony Studios that impressionable kids will be watching this. (Coming Soon)

Sony Helps Spurlock Sell Out By Picking Up ‘Greatest Movie’ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/sony-helps-spurlock-sell-out-by-picking-up-greatest-movie/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/sony-helps-spurlock-sell-out-by-picking-up-greatest-movie/#comments Thu, 20 Jan 2011 21:06:39 +0000 Penn Collins http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=21046 Morgan Spurlock is set to open our eyes yet again after getting his newest film, The Greatest Movie Ever Sold, picked up for distribution by Sony Studios. Spurlock gets a little meta with Greatest Movie, as it’s a documentary on product placement, marketing and advertising that’s 100% funded through its use of product placement, marketing, and advertising. Consider our minds blown.

Spurlock will take audiences into the boardrooms where the advertising decisions are made that ultimately decide what you end up watching on your TV and in the theaters. Essentially, it’s “watch Morgan Spurlock sell out as hard as he can so we can see how everyone sells out.” Which, admittedly, sounds pretty interesting. Add to that Spurlock’s charm as a host, and Sony is probably looking at a film that can demonstrate a pretty solid return, especially if it was all financed as they said it was.

The Greatest Movie Ever Sold premieres at Sundance this weekend, so expect feedback in short order, but something told us Sony has already seen the film if they picked it up for distribution. Movie studios are thorough that way. (Coming Soon)

Greengrass Could Get Gritty with Cleopatra http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/cleopatra-pretty-close-to-getting-a-director-a-nations-knuckles-whiten/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/cleopatra-pretty-close-to-getting-a-director-a-nations-knuckles-whiten/#comments Wed, 05 Jan 2011 21:50:28 +0000 Penn Collins http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=14364 Deadline reports that producer Scott Rudin is “pretty close” to locking someone down to helm this mighty, might vessel. Nothing has been announced (or even leaked, for that matter) but it’s being reported that those in power all “like the idea” of Paul Greengrass signing on. Whether that means they actually like Greengrass, only time will tell. It’s no surprise that Sony isn’t taking this decision lightly, as the previous iteration of Cleopatra in 1963 nearly shut the doors of 20th Century Fox with its runaway budget.

It is perhaps for this reason that the name of James Cameron as director hasn’t come up in recent musings. Though he has proven to carry the Midas touch with big-budget fare such as this, Greengrass’ name indicates that the powers that be might be more interested in a grittier, more story-driven (and cheaper) take, rather than one that relies on spectacle and blue people. His resume includes the two lauded Bourne installments, as well as the divisive United 93, and less-lauded Green Zone. The Greengrass rumors alone are enough to get many to declare that the 3-D novelty has worn off, and that even aspiring 3-D blockbusters will require a story as compelling as the effects. The source material for the project, the unfortunately named Cleopatra: The Life by Stacy Schiff, has already garnered a Pulitzer, so those in line for a Yogi Bear 3-D redux had best brace for disappointment.

That said, don’t think that this won’t be a tentpole release for Sony. With the time and effort they’ve put into this project, regardless of the director, they have every intention of making this appointment viewing for just about everyone in the world with functioning eyes. And just because this epic will have “grit,” don’t be surprised to hear a funny Jewish accent from a CGI snake. I think Andy Serkis is available.

Sony Pictures has just stopped giving a damn, and is letting Dan Brown work on the screen adaptation of his novel, The Lost Symbol, THR is reporting. Steven Knight, the writer behind Eastern Promises, was originally slated to adapt the screenplay, but was recently replaced by Brown for reasons known only to high ranking Freemasons. Released in 2009, Brown’s third installment of the Robert Langdon saga was the fastest selling adult novel of all time, although for an “adult novel,” I must say there was a lot left to be desired in the “ATM” department.

Many people like to bitch and moan about Brown’s work just because it’s “clichéd” and “poorly written.” Those people need to chill the hell out. What’s the harm? It’s just mindless fun, like having sex with a coma patient. (IndieWire)

Someone’s been watching ‘A Beautiful Mind’ in their dorm room.

The first official full length trailer for David Fincher’s The Social Network has dropped, and it is wow. I was a little skeptical after seeing the first and second teaser, but I apologize for doubting the project and may the shadow demons from Ghost have mercy on my soul. The trailer is constructed beautifully. Fincher must have been keeping a choir rendition of Radiohead’s "Creep" in his back pocket for years. The song just wouldn’t work when synced with Brad Pitt. Most Radiohead tracks don’t.

The Social Network friends theaters October 1, 2010.

Aaron Sorkin burn.

The second teaser for David Fincher’s The Social Network has dropped, and it doesn’t give us much more than the first one. It swaps bold, dramatic text with scrolling Facebook status updates written by the film’s characters. The whole thing seems like a bad idea from a legal standpoint. Why would Mark Zuckerberg want all of his backstabbing documented on the very site that made him millions? And why do none of the updates inform me who’s drinking alone tonight, who just heard their favorite song on the radio, and who just made a killer grilled cheese sandwich? It’s those mundane details that will cement the realism of the narrative.

Sony made the official announcement at a press event in Cancun, Mexico for international journalists attending a media tour promoting upcoming films from Sony Pictures Entertainment. Personally, I feel Garfield is more suited to play Ichabod Crane or bass in Coldplay than Spider-man, but what do I know. I don’t run a studio and sleep on 2,000 thread count sheets. Yet…

We’ve reported all kinds of rumors and hearsay, but the studio made the official announcement today at a press event in Cancun, Mexico for international journalists attending a media tour promoting upcoming films from Sony Pictures Entertainment.

On selecting Garfield, director Marc Webb said, “Though his name may be new to many, those who know this young actor’s work understand his extraordinary talents. He has a rare combination of intelligence, wit, and humanity. Mark my words, you will love Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker.”

Words marked, Mark Webb. Garfield is starring in the upcoming David Fincher film The Social Network and Mark Romanek‘s next, Never Let Me Go opposite Keira Knightley and Carey Mulligan. He seems to be partial to directors who made a name for themselves in the music video and commercial world before transitioning into features.

Okay, so we can all stop worrying about the new Spider-man now. It’s Andrew Garfield. They start shooting in December. And don’t you DARE start asking about Mary Jane yet. I will lose my sh*t.

Sony Moving Ahead With ‘Hitman 2′ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/sony-moving-ahead-with-hitman-2/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/sony-moving-ahead-with-hitman-2/#comments Wed, 30 Nov -0001 00:00:00 +0000

Showcasing Olga Kurlylenko‘s maybe-penis on its poster helped Hitman earn a $70 million profit, so it’s no surprise that Sony wants to make another one. The studio is eyeballing Spanish director Daniel Benmayor to helm but there’s no word if Timothy Olyphant will be returning. Though they do have an option on him should they decide to hold him down and shave his head again.

Benmayor’s claim to fame so far is the feature Paintball, a movie about weekend warriors who discover someone is using live ammo in their paintball game. Sounds like the second act of Child’s Play 3 before they randomly end up at that carnival. Chucky should really try to avoid places where there’s the possibility of falling into a giant fan. Yeah. But anyway, Hitman 2. (Deadline)

‘Popeye’ to Undergo Much Needed Reboot http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/popeye-to-undergo-much-needed-reboot/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/popeye-to-undergo-much-needed-reboot/#comments Wed, 30 Nov -0001 00:00:00 +0000

Popeye wrestles with his demon.

Move over, Stallone. Another aged strongman prone to using performance-enhancers is making his way back to theaters. Variety reports that Sony Pictures Animation will be releasing a computer animated Popeye in 3D. The storyline is being kept under wraps but producer Avi Arad has said it "will cover the themes of friendship, love, greed and life, and focus on human strengths and human frailties.” Hey, did he just steal the logline from The Room?

This obviously follows the trend of other cartoon to film adaptations such as Garfield, The Smurfs, Underdog, Marmaduke, and Alvin and the Chipmunks. I only hope the sailorman sticks to eating spinach and not his own sh*t.

‘Spider-Man’ Reboot To Suck in 3 Dimensions http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/spider-man-reboot-to-suck-in-3-dimensions/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/spider-man-reboot-to-suck-in-3-dimensions/#comments Wed, 30 Nov -0001 00:00:00 +0000

IN MIND-BONING 3D!!!!!!!!!

Sony seems to be having a good time pushing Marc Webb around as he develops their Spider-Man reboot. Sony Marketing Chairman Jeff Blake announced today that the movie will be forcing its way into theaters on July 3rd, 2012 in sure-to-be-dull-by-then 3D. Great. Now I have to risk pink-eye to see this studio-directed bastardization? From Blake:

“Spider-Man is the ultimate summer movie-going experience, and we’re thrilled the filmmakers are presenting the next installment in 3D. They resisted at first but we tightened the vice on their testicles and convinced them to see things our way. We find that groin pain can be quite the motivator. Spider-Man is one of the most popular characters in the world, and we know audiences are eager and excited to discover Marc’s fantastic vision (stiffles laughter) for Peter Parker and the franchise. Now let’s cram this baby full of villians and give Spidey a jive-talking sidekick. Maybe a flying squirrel voiced by Eddie Murphy or something. And tits. I’m told teenage boys like tits.”

No word yet on the film’s title or which little jerk will star as Peter Parker. (Deadline Hollywood)

Hedge Fund Holds Salvation for ‘Terminator’ Franchise http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/hedge-fund-holds-salvation-for-terminator-franchise/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/hedge-fund-holds-salvation-for-terminator-franchise/#comments Wed, 30 Nov -0001 00:00:00 +0000

The bidding war over the rights to the Terminator franchise is over and the winner is… Pacificor? I’m sorry but I’m not familiar with their films. From Deadline Hollywood:

“Sony and Lionsgate dropped out at just under $29.5 million when it became clear that Santa Barbara-based hedge fund Pacificor was willing to pay almost any amount of money for Terminator.”

Oh. That’s why I didn’t know them. Pacificor is the debtholder that pushed Halcyon into bankruptcy in the first place. Now they’ve swooped in and traded that debt for the once lucrative franchise. I think it would be awesome if James Cameron bought them. Not so he could make another Terminator but so he could take a dump on Terminator 3 in front of director Jonathan Mostow‘s house.

No one knows what Pacificor plans to do with the rights but let’s hope it’s not to steal the technology and build their own army of machines. If robots become self-aware, there’s no telling what kind of damage they may cause.
