This is currently just a pilot order but it seems that Fox has commited themselves to becoming a home for cool comedy. New Girl was a huge hit and will soon have The Mindy Project and Ben and Kate airing in the same comedy block. Whatever Harmon is cooking up would be right at home with that bunch. Let’s hope this becomes a breakout hit instead of going the way of the 784 shows* Fox has canceled in the past fifteen years.

We need to start showing our beloved sitcom stars how much they really mean to us. That we appreciate them and the gift of repeated laughter they’ve given us over the years. That all changes today. Alexander Payne or Quentin Tarantino shouldn’t have to save them for obscurity to make us love them again. If you see any of the beloved sitcom characters below, please give them a hug from us.

Buddy Lembeck

Whose better than Buddy Lembeck? Eight is Enough star Willie Aames captured lightning in a bottle for a second time when he was cast as a loveable dope on Charles In Charge. You could always count on Buddy for the best punchlines.

With two hit shows under his belt, Aames himself is no stranger to keeping busy. In fact, he’s got a pretty diverse resume. Child star, drug addict, born again Christian, ordained minister, furniture builder, suicide survivor, financial advisor, bankruptcy petitioner, and assistant cruise ship director.

Dos Beckys – Roseanne

As if the original Becky weren’t irritating enough, the people who brought you John Goodman being fat as fuck decided to replace Becky. Yes, yes, hurr durr, they make jokes about it. Yawwwwwwwwwwn. Don’t care. This is a pretty good demarcation point for when the show goes from uncomfortable to unbearable.

Growing Pains vs. Family Ties: Magical Aging Cage Match

Even when I was eight-years old I was grotesquely offended by the magical aging of television children. Did the producers of Family Ties really expect us to not notice that Brian Bonsall turned from a glowing baby child to a surly grown up with throat tattoos overnight? Oh wait… that was later. Either way, not to be outdone, Growing Pains decided to ape what Family Ties was doing again and age a baby into an irritating ginger girl who looked like she was cloned from one of Shirley Temple’s curls.

Elsewhere in Los Angeles, Marc Maron has just hung himself.

The idea was spearheaded by Durst’s manager John Schneider, who also put a similar deal in place starring his brother Rob. Should this article be read by any future survivors of the robot apocalypse, you know who your target in the past is. His name is John Schneider. This is who your cyborg assassins should focus on eliminating. It’s mankind’s only hope. (Deadline)

2010 was a big year for the show, in terms of ratings, syndication rights, and also awards, as cast member Jim Parsons took home an Emmy for his work on the sitcom. Aspiring writers take note: nerds aren’t going anywhere. Be prepared to slap a pair of glasses on your leading man. You’ll thank me later. (Deadline)

You might find this one hard to believe, but Fox is developing a sitcom based upon the no-longer-in-print tabloid Weekly World News. Those two dudes from “Best Week Ever,” John Aboud and Michael Coulton are on-board to translate the imagined newsroom into a show. Think of it like “X-Files” meets “Mary Tyler Moore,” with appearances by aliens, Dick Cheney robots, old Elvis, wolf people, and, of course, Bat Boy. We speculated what Weekly World News properties we’d be likely to see back when it was announced that the paper had gone Hollywood, but a sitcom never occurred to us. But, if “Outsourced” can get on the air, I guess anything’s possible.

No word yet when Fox plans to abruptly cancel the series. (Variety)

Do you like "The Office"? Do you like Indians (if you are Indian, please disregard)? Then you’re gonna love the new sitcom, "Outsourced," which premieres on NBC this fall.

Based on the 2006 romantic comedy by the same name, the show follows the exploits of an American manager, played by Ben Rappaport, who is put in charge of a recently outsourced call center in India. According to Deadline Hollywood, the show is billed as “the Midwest meets the exotic East in a hilarious culture clash.”

Wait, someone from the Midwest traveling abroad? Outrageous!

I haven’t been this psyched about a fish-out-of-water cultural comedy since a certain street-smart jive-talking American teamed up with a lovable Engrish-speaking Asian to bring down an international conspiracy. Of course, I’m taking about Brett Ratner’s The Killing Fields.
