Happy Tuesday. But this is no regular Tuesday. This Tuesday marks the launch of FXNow’s Simpsons World, a wonderful little streaming service that offers not only every Simpsons episode ever, but also billions of extras, games, and interactive features that will ensure that you never have to deal with non-yellow people again.

Here’s what’s on it, per a press release from Fox:

  • “Everything Simpsons,” a dynamic newsfeed showcasing the latest Simpsons news, social media updates, “Did You Know” fun facts, featured episode playlists, and clips.
  • “The Simpsons Heartbeat,” which organizes the complete catalogue of episodes by popularity.
  • A premium video player that will provide recommendations to other clips and episodes users would enjoy as well as the ability for users to share content on their social networks.
  • A simple, intuitive way to browse through the catalogue by season, playlist, most popular episodes, and exclusive video content.
  • A responsive search function allowing users to find video of their favorite characters and guest stars in the entire catalogue or any of the nearly 3,000 clips.

And here’s where you can find it:

And here is when you should go visit that service:

  • As soon as humanly possible

Once, we dreamed of a world that had unlimited on-demand Simpsons episodes. That world is here.

The Simpsons has built up a lot of steam in the offseason. Their FX marathon was an unequivocal success, last season’s LEGO episode got great ratings, as did last night’s Family Guy episode with the gang. And they built up further buzz by killing off a character. Of course, they didn’t say who, so you had to tune in.

We haven’t tuned in…yet, but we know who died, thanks to Deadline. don’t read if you don’t wanna know…

The death was:

Rabbi Hyman Krustofsky, Krusty’s father. Ugh. That wouldn’t be newsworthy under the best of circumstances. I think most of us figured he was dead. I was hoping for Nelson Muntz or Superintendent Chalmers. But a boy can dream, can’t he?

Krusty himself was in the title of the show, but rest assured, the clown is still alive and well, even though his death would likely have made for a more interesting conversation the day after the episode aired.

We’re 26 seasons into the grand Simpsons experiment, and I’m pretty comfortable calling it a success. Creative controller Al Jean say down with Deadline for a state of the union interview and said he didn’t know when the madness would end.

Jean stated that rumors of ratings troubles are perennial and not to be taken seriously. He offered this assessment:

Every fall, we are after football and our ratings are great, and then in the spring, when football is over, it looks like a drought. Nonetheless, our ads are in the top 5 of all networks, we’re huge in M18-34, and we rerun really well.

He says in the piece (which is definitely worth a read for both fans and the curious alike) that no formal conversations have taken place about the end of the show. And you know what?

I believe him. Keep going strong, Al.

The Simpsons has been plodding on for well over twenty years, but it’s taken a fairly brief 12-day FXX marathon to cause many people to look back at the show’s staggering body of work. It’s got 552 episodes under its belt, so it’s been bound to go back to the same well several, if not dozens, of times.

For a more sophisticated breakdown of that well-returning, Beutler Ink put together a handy infographic that spotlights the trends in the episodic plots.

You get the idea. Here’s the edu-taining graphic:

FXX Will Now Be Giving Us Simpsons Mini-Marathons Almost Every Night…Forever http://www.screenjunkies.com/tv/tv-news/fxx-will-now-be-giving-us-simpsons-mini-marathons-almost-every-night-forever/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/tv/tv-news/fxx-will-now-be-giving-us-simpsons-mini-marathons-almost-every-night-forever/#comments Fri, 29 Aug 2014 16:53:08 +0000 Penn Collins http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=264572 There is very little time left for human interaction.

The non-stop Simpsons marathon on FXX has catapulted the network into the top 5 cable channels, and, wanting to keep that momentum past the 12-day marathon, the network has announced that it will be all-Simpson, all-the-time.

Almost.

5 nights a week, it will air at least four hours of Simpsons, ensuring that there will ALWAYS be something good on during primetime. This will leave a little sliver carved out for Parks and Recreation reruns, and you can just backfill the rest of your day with work and sleep.

It’s a brilliant system, and just another step towards what I’m calling the Simpsons Renaissance of 2014.

The schedule will be as follows:

Mondays will be 6PM-12AM

Tuesdays will be 8PM-12AM

Wednesdays will be free time (feel free to go to a bar, speak with your family, watch DVR‘d Simpsons reruns…whatever)

Thursday will be  6PM-12AM

Fridays will be 8PM-12AM

Saturdays will be free time (exercise, eat some oatmeal)

Sundays will be 4PM-8PM

Enjoy the schedule that will now dictate the rest of your life.

Fox’s plan to use shameless crossovers and gimmicks to maintain the relevance of its animated shows appears to be working, at least in the near-term. 5 minutes of the Family Guy-Simpsons crossover was released at Comic-Con on Friday, and it’s got people…interested.

The event, which is technically the hour-long Family Guy premiere with an appearance from The Simpsons, has been hyped shamelessly by Fox. But the fact that this thing is getting traction, lots of media attention, and, judging by the clip, a few laughs, could mean good things for the two aging shows.

Well, if not “good things,” then at least “not-so-bad things.”

The Simpsons has become a bit of a foregone conclusion in the past decade or so, and that’s totally mean to be a backhanded compliment. It’s depended on and appreciated for being around, but it’s unremarkable in almost every sense these days.

Historically, that’s been plenty good to at least get an Emmy nomination, but when the list of nominees was announced this morning, the denizens of Springfield were nowhere to be found.

Now, The Simpsons has been so firmly entrenched in pop culture that an Emmy nod didn’t really mean much, but as its relevance wanes, it’s possible that the show’s life might depend more and more critical acclaim and bragging rights, since it’s fan base is about 40 years old by now, and a little busy raising teenagers to watch cartoons.

Technically, the show didn’t get the nod in ’93 and ’94, but that’s just because the show was up for the more general (and prestigious) Outstanding Comedy Series, so we’re going to say that the streak ends now.

I bet Nelson Muntz would have something very appropriate to say right about now.

In case Luigi’s Pizza, Krusty Burger, and Moe’s Tavern aren’t enough to satisfy your whimsical, fictional tastes while trolling around with the masses in Orlando, you can now open your refined palate to donuts and beer.

Like a Rockefeller.

The collection of eateries/drinkeries is known as Simpson Fast Food Boulevard, and it’s a place I’m dying to see, and would undoubtedly be a place I would be dying to leave after about four minutes.

Take a look!
