Hilary Swank, riding that Oscar to drop some serious interplanetary street justice on some fools.

Hilary Swank saw all these actors getting comic book movies and said, “Hey! I want one!” Well, she got her wish with Shrapnel, a Radical comic adaptation that tells the tale of a former military officer (Swank) who leads an uprising on Venus in 2025. Obviously, it adheres to elements of the sci-fi genre, but also contains western conventions in it as well.

In the graphic novels, Venus exists as the last colony free from what Variety calls an “oppressive solar government.” Tricky business, those solar governments. It doesn’t sound too terribly far off from the plot of Total Recall, though it’s presumed that Swank will have only two breasts in this adaptation. Pity.

The source material comes as a trio of graphic novels, to be adapted by Toby Wagstaff, who has previously cut his teeth on Arena. Swank has long been looking for an action vehicle. Let’s hop this is it. The people of Venus are counting on her.

The master thespians are looking to share more than faces.

John Travolta and Nicolas Cage share a unique bond that not many could relate to. Sharing faces with one another will do that. So it only makes sense that they’d be eager to beat the shit out of one another on-screen again.

Looks like they’re looking to get the band back together for one of two projects. The first is Shrapnel (which had jailbird John McTiernan attached), about a Bosnian soldier looking for revenge on the American soldier who wounded him. U-S-A!! U-S-A!!!

The second project to draw notice from their collective hive-eye is Sea Trial. The yacht-based thriller is centered around two couples on a romantic getaway. Things turn gnarly, however, when one of the couples isn’t who they appear to be. I’m just really afraid for those poor actresses. Why anyone would ever get on a boat with either of those wackos, I don’t not know.

Honestly, I’d like to see both these films. As one has potential for face removal and the other has the potential for another jet ski chase. Can we just remake Face/Off shot for shot with the original cast? Nobody would mind. (Vulture)

Do you like John McTiernan's throw pillows? Well do you?!
John McTiernan, the director of Die Hard and Predator, has signed on to Shrapnel, what will be his first film since 2003. The story is about two war veterans who hunt each other in a lethal game of cat and mouse. Evan Daugherty's action-thriller script was on the 2008 Blacklist, and that's even without a warrior alien as part of the cat and mouse plotline.
It'll be nice to see McTiernan back behind the camera, even though his last few films have been way less than Die Hard-y. The director has been busy getting into sh*t with the government over the infamous Anthony Pellicano wiretapping scandal of 2006. His experience is a testament to why you never bug your wife's phone. Or your best friend's wife's phone. Even if her come-hither stares say, "Bug my phone." (Variety)
