Shirley Temple Black, hands down the cutest celebrity to have a drink named after them (sorry Arnold Palmer, you should have accessorized), has passed away on Monday. She was 85.

First known to Depression era audiences as an adorable, tap-dancing sassypants, she was a screen legend with over 40 film credits by the age of 12. With her acting career stalled out in her teens, she left the business at the age of 22. From there, she entered politics and went on to become an ambassador for the United States under two different presidencies.

In 1972, after losing her left breast to cancer, she spoke publicly about her mastectomy in the hopes of raising awareness and promoting women to conduct home checks.

The New York Times has published this statement from her family, “We salute her for a life of remarkable achievements as an actor, as a diplomat, and most importantly as our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and adored wife for fifty-five years of the late and much missed Charles Alden Black.” Indeed. Let’s all take a moment to pour out a sip of grenadine and ginger ale in her honor.
