Former ”American Idol” contestant Katharine McPhee treads shady waters in Shark Night 3D. She plays Beth, a character who will, presumably, scream at the top of her lungs at one more points throughout the film. McPhee rose to fame after a strong run on “Idol” in 2006, eventually finishing as the season’s runner-up.

Tonight Fred Topel attended the Shark Night 3D party at Comic-Con. Drinks were drunk, and food was eaten, but more importantly, a hot girl bucked around on a mechanical shark. Genius. If all marketing campaigns incorporate this very idea we’re all in for a fantastic time. Tomorrow I expect a huge line at a mechanical alien mother from Prometheus.

These new stills from Shark Night 3D do a superb job of letting us know that women with breasts are in the film. I threw in a pic of the shark for good measure, but it’s really the possibility of seeing Sara Paxton and Katherine McPhee naked that’s going to get butts in the seats. David R. Ellis, the man behind Snakes on a Plane, directed Shark Night, if that helps you adjust your expectations. I’m just still confused why they took the direction they did, as far as the plot is concerned. In my mind, the film should be about a group of sassy lady sharks spending one crazy night out on the town with only their cheating husbands’ credit cards and a desire for adventure.

Just watched the above trailer for Shark Night 3D, starring Sara Paxton. I suppose any excuse to see boobs is probably a worthwhile use of my time, though this movie seems pretty horror-by-the-numbers-y. They’re on a booty trip in the middle of nowhere, the main black guy is the first to get attacked, there’s a shark POV shot of a girl’s legs dangling – same old, same old. Still, though… boobs. Also, a guy gets lowered down to the shark against his will, which I fully support.

Shark Night 3D comes to us from director David Ellis (Snakes on a Plane), who originally wanted to title the film to be Untitled 3D Shark Thriller. I’m hoping there’ll be at least a little bit of self-mocking, or something worth making a hilarious-for-a-time meme out of, that’s not represented in the trailer. Or maybe it’s a really scary thriller, and the trailer just picks parts we’d be “familiar” with. Otherwise, I’m swimming off to boobier waters on September 2nd.

New Posters Alert: ‘Harry Potter, ‘Descendants’ And ‘Shark Night’

Some posters you hang on your wall, others you look at on the internet to get psyched about an upcoming movie. Could you do both? I suppose… you could. We’ve got new one-sheets for The Descendants, Shark Night 3D and some movie about a wizard guy that everybody likes. Merlin? No, I think he’s younger. Teen Merlin from Teen Merlin: The Extreme Spells? Yeah, that must be it.

Harry Potter is serious business. That’s what I’ve learned from the dramatic new poster above for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, about the boy wizard (Daniel Radcliffe)fighting He-Who-Could-Use-A-Nose. The drama is visible: the dirt and scars on the face, the red dots of intensity magic, and of course, “IT ALL ENDS” in caps, barely able to stay within the poster limits. Is there a Photoshop spell for that? Magic-blasts into theaters July 15, 2011. (/Film)

Alexander Payne‘s The Descendants stars George Clooney as a rich family man whose cheating wife dies, causing him to re-evaluate his life. It opens December 16, 2011. The new poster shows Clooney looking towards the ocean. Is he staring at his daughters, or is he hearing something else? A girl screaming for her life, perhaps… ? (IndieWire)

Shark Night 3D is the follow-up to Snakes On A Plane from director David Ellis. It will feature hot bikini girls, screaming, sharks, and presumably, night scenarios. Sounds good to me. Sara Paxton stars, chomping into theaters September 14, 2011. (IGN)

‘Shark Night 3D’ Full Of Bikini Hotties And Old School Effects

Listen, I will still defend Snakes on a Plane ‘til the day I die. It’s been five years, and no other movie since has given us snakes, on a plane. I think director David Ellis can do the same for sharks. I found out a little bit more about Shark Night 3D from Sara Paxton on the set of her next movie. She’s shooting Liars All in Los Angeles, but Shark Night gave her hardcore swimming lessons.

“They stuck me in a lake and there’s frickin’ water moccasins and alligators and there can be real bull sharks,” Paxton said. “I’m in the lake wading, and we trained with the Navy SEALS for like a month before the movie.”

No, it was not SEAL Team 6. Paxton’s Liars All costar Matt Lanter made that joke before even I could. “Oh, I get it, I get it,” Paxton said.

More importantly, Shark Night is full of young hotties in bikinis and real old school shark effects. “We got to have fun in a lake with seven young people in bathing suits all day, with animatronic sharks,” she said. “They didn’t want it to get too CGI and I kind of agree with that because I feel like too much CGI just doesn’t look that great to me.”

Shark Night 3D comes out September 14.

Audiences for a movie called Shark Night 3D (which apparently is no longer titled Untitled 3D Shark Thriller) aren’t looking for a lot in terms of artistry or mise-en-scène. They want some sharks, some shark attacks, perhaps a bikini or two, and some winking references to that famous killer fish movie, Piranha.

So this image is sure to whet the carnivorous appetite of all but the most jaded Shark Night 3D anticipators. The water! The shark! The chick in a bikini! The visual reference to Jaws! It’s all here, friends. You can check out a larger version of the image below. Fun tip: Print it out and paste it over one of your windows at home to make it look like you’re underwater and neglecting to save a young swimsuit model from getting eaten by a shark. Did I say “fun”? I meant “bizarre.” (Collider)
