Iron Man Teaches How To Kill A Helicopter With A Piano

We’ve seen helicopters killed in several different ways. There’s the tried and true shoot-it-with-a-missile, or trick it into flying into another helicopter/too close to power lines. We’ve seen helicopters killed by crashing tail first into hockey rinks. We’ve even John McClane kill a helicopter by launching a cop car at it.

Tony Stark, however, is not one to be outdone. In this clip from Iron Man 3, he displays perhaps the most impressive helicopter slaughter yet — killing it with a rocket-propelled piano. Here, writer/director Shane Black proves he still knows his way around action. It’s like a super-powered version the surfboard scene from Lethal Weapon 2, proving that writer/director Shane Black still knows how to craft a memorable action scene. Your move, The Expendables 3.

When Marvel brought 1980′s action auteur Shane Black on board to shake up Tony Stark’s world, we were curious to see what he’d bring to the table. Now we know. If nothing else, and the film turns out to be a disappointment, at least we have this trailer.

My favorite parts:

- Stark firing his glove as a gun while also firing an actual gun

- Gwyneth Paltrow hanging out around explosions in a sports bra

- The Mandarin talking like Toby Radloff from American Splendor

- Iron Man‘s army

Tony Stark has made his fair share of enemies. At least a hundred in fact and that number doesn’t consider his non-human enemies from other dimensions. That kind of hate takes a toll and Iron Man 3 finds the billionaire superhero losing sleep.

His most dangerous enemy, The Mandarin, reveals himself and makes things personal by destroying his pussy palace. Just like when those South Africans destroyed Rigg’s sweet oceanfront trailer in Lethal Weapon 2. Shane Black, we see what you’re doing here.

In A Stunning Twist, Shane Black Writing ‘Iron Man 3′

When it was announced that Drew Pearce was the screenwriter for the upcoming sequel to Iron Man 2/Burger King commercial Iron Man 3, many were surprised. After all, the film’s director Shane Black, is known mostly as a screenwriter. Well, now it turns out that while Pearce is being brought in to write the screenplay, it’s as a writing partner to Black.

There are a couple different reasons being speculated as to why Black, a proven screenwriter, would need a partner to write a movie he’s directing. One is that Black is a notorious potty-mouth who needs someone like Pearce to help keep it PG-13. Man, I was hoping for an Iron Man movie that features naughty words like h*ck and d*rn. There will probably still be a lot of violence, though. (CinemaBlend)

Shane Black Talks His Plans To Make ‘Iron Man 3′ Less Stupid

After the confusing jumble that was last summer’s Iron Man 2, fans were hoping for a better third installment. With Shane Black at the helm of Iron Man 3, fans have reason to be optimistic. Even though nobody really knows what’s going on with that project or if Black is even writing the thing.

Today, we know a little more about the film thanks to a tipster at AICN. Black gave up some info about Iron Man‘s next go-round yesterday at the Omaha Film Festival.

“[Shane Black] is scheduled to meet with Robert Downey Jr. this week when he returns to L.A. Downey will be contributing to the story and Shane will be writing it in addition to directing.

The studio was not happy with the direction Iron Man 2 took. Iron Man 3 will not be another ‘two men in iron suits fighting each other’ film. Instead, it will be more like a Tom Clancy-thriller, with Iron Man fighting real world villians.

Iron Man 3 will be made after The Avengers and will not feature any other heroes from the Marvel Universe. Marvel is only doing crossover characters to lead up to The Avengers, and once that film is released, the plan is to go back to self-containted single-character stories.”

I’ll believe that Marvel wasn’t happy with the results of Iron Man 2, but I don’t really believe these other updates. The good news is that Black is writing the movie. Which means they’ll probably be pole-dancing. However, eight-year olds wouldn’t flock to see these films without laser-whips and iron guys beating on one another or shoe-horned Hawkeye cameos. I, also, can’t imagine that these “real world villains” would sell too many toys. Unless, of course, their action figures are inexplicably dressed in iron suits. OOOO, maybe camouflaged iron suits.

‘King’s Speech’ Director Gave ‘Iron Man 3′ An Iron Middle Finger

Director Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech) is looking to win Oscar gold, and doesn’t have time for any other type of metal. In a recent interview, Hooper said that he was offered the job of directing drunken Tony Stark & pals in Iron Man 3, but turned Marvel down. Then they went to Shane Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang). It’s not uncommon practice to hire a drama director with little effects experience to captain a big budget CG explosion fest, with the hope that they’ll direct commanding performances out of those guys with the lines… actors? I think that’s what they’re called. The ones that aren’t explosions.

Not to worry, Hoopertarians. The acclaimed director is considering a different big project: a new film version of the hit Broadway musical Les Miserables. It’s not just a poster in you high school music teacher’s classroom. Les Mis is a not-a-laugh-a-minute show about an ex-convict and other French folks who do a lot of struggling in the 1800s. Judging from the time period alone, it seems more like Hooper’s thing. (Collider, 24 Frames)

Shane Black Dares To Tackle ‘Iron Man 3′

Shane Black is in final negotiations to direct Robert Downey Jr.‘s snarkiness in Iron Man 3. The film is set to be released May 3, 2013, so he has some time to wrap his head around a MASSIVE ACTION MOVIE FRANCHISE. Black worked with Downey Jr. on Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and in fact helped make the actor a household name again. But Kiss Kiss is no Iron Man. Can a writer who’s only directed one small budget film take on a superhero?

Speaking of writing, there isn’t yet a writer set to script Iron Man 3, and Marvel is keeping their lips locked. Seems like Black would be the perfect choice considering he knows more about scripting action than directing it. After all, he did write The Last Boyscout and those tiny Lethal Weapon movies. I’m guessing Marvel hires him to tackle the Iron Man 3 script as well. The franchise could really do with a good catchphrase. (Deadline)

Shane Black May ‘Bang Bang’ Out ‘Iron Man 3′

Jon Favreau is hopping into a supersuit, drunkenly crashing out the huge window at Marvel HQ, and leaving the Iron Man series behind. That’s led to the question: who’ll replace him as director of the popular franchise? One man who’s presenting his take on the story to Marvel is Shane Black (Lethal Weapon, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang), who wants to write and direct the threequel.

Seems like #3 in these Marvel trilogies is the easiest to screw up (see Spider-Man 3, X-Men 3, or better yet – don’t), but Black is a strong candidate. He’s worked well with Robert Downey Jr. before. My thinking is that if you can direct a guy getting his ass kicked in real life, you can direct a CG guy in a CG suit getting his ass kicked in CG. The scale of an Iron Man movie is super-huge, but if Darren Aronofsky can direct Wolverine, then Black should have no trouble handling a few iron dudes.

These are just talks, so who knows how they’ll pan out. Also, Black may have just accidentally stumbled into Marvel’s offices to avoid the police, and kinda improvised his way through the pitch. (Collider)

Shane Black To Deliver a ‘Death Note’

Shane Black, the once incredibly prolific spec script wunderkind (he sold Lethal Weapon on spec for $250,000 straight out of UCLA film school and went on an absolute tear after that) has been tapped by Warner Brothers to direct his follow up to 2005′s Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, an adaptation of his favorite Japanese Manga: Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata’s Death Note. Black will oversee a script written by Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry, and he sounds VERY excited about the project:

“It’s my favorite manga, I was just struck by its unique and brilliant sensibility,” Black said. “What we want to do is take it back to that manga, and make it closer to what is so complex and truthful about the spirituality of the story, versus taking the concept and trying to copy it as an American thriller. Jeff Robinov and Greg Silverman liked that.”

Death Note, about a mystical notebook that has the power to kill anyone who’s name is written on it, has sold over 38 million copies worldwide, and has been franchised into animated and feature films, a cartoon series, novels and video games in Japan. (Deadline)
