If you thought living without a cell phone these days is hard, just imagine how difficult it will be to watch a group of fictional people whine about not having a cellphone. Not fun, eh? Welp, FOX thinks you’re up to the challenge by bringing you All Together Now, a show about a group of friends who spur cellular technology and “engage each other for as long as they can stand it.”

Ugh. This sounds terrible. But that makes sense, considering it’s coming from Alec Sulkin, a co-producer of Family Guy, and the braintrust who brought us last season’s Dads starring Seth Green and Giovanni Ribisi. The only other detail we know is that it will be an ensemble comedy. The more the merrier, I guess.

The fact that this the show is based on people not going on their cell phones is pretty alarming. I mean, sure, in real life, we’re all tethered to the damn things, but it’s not like we tune into True Blood or Curb Your Enthusiasm and the characters are constantly texting on their phones. The only show like that is The Newsroom, and we don’t mind it in that instance, because it shuts the characters up for a second.

I’m going to write a show about people who never wrestle bears.

In news that will likely fill a lot of you with joy, Seth MacFarlane is being sued. In news that will bring you right back down to earth, there is no way in Hell that the lawsuit will stick.

That’s because the copyright infringement suit, filed by California production house Bengal Mangle Productions, alleges that the idea of a potty-mouthed teddy bear with a penchant for prostitutes depicted in MacFarlane’s 2012 smash-hit was actually a blatant ripoff of “Charlie the Abusive Teddy Bear,” a character from a web series of the same name as well as the web series Acting School Academy. You can read the whole suit here, if you have that kind of time. If not, Deadline has the details:

“Both Charlie and Ted reside in a substantially similar environment, including that both Charlie and Ted spend a significant amount of time sitting on a living room couch with a beer and/or cigarette in hand,” the suit claims. “Charlie and Ted each have a substantially similar persona, verbal tone, verbal delivery, dialogue, and attitude.”

Additionally, the suit alleges that whoever is running Ted’s Twitter account is also stealing jokes from Charlie’s Twitter, listing several absolutely pathetic examples:

Charlie 2009 Twitter post: “What the f**k is Twitter?”

Ted 2012 Twitter post: “Hello, Twitter. Kindly go fuck yourself.”

Charlie 2009 Twitter post: “I like Fox News. They’ve made s**t talking an art form.”

Ted 2012 Twitter post: “I like Game of Thrones for tits and blood and Fox News for laughs.”

Charlie 2009 Twitter post: “I don’t like cocaine. I just like the smell of it.”

Ted 2012 Twitter post: “Just acid, and coke, and Ex, and DMT. That’s where I draw the lines.”

MacFarlane, Fuzzy Door Productions, Universal Studios, and whoever else is named in this lawsuit will, of course, crush it like the shit-grubbing bug it is. That, or the creators of Greg the Bunny will get involved and turn this into a threeway sue-off. Honestly, I say they place the rights to a concept as clearly original and brilliant as a talking teddy bear in a briefcase, hang it from the rafters, and have MacFarlane and whoever the f*ck created Charlie the Abusive Teddy Bear compete in a ladder match for it. Then have Alf waterboard the winner to death.

Here’s a clip of Charlie in action, if you still aren’t sold on how much of a stretch this transparent attempt at a cash grab is.

Meanwhile, filming for Ted 2 begins next Monday in Boston, uninterrupted. Chalk up another one for the deep pockets of Hollywood.

Seth MacFarlane has a reputation for being a funny guy that has absolutely no qualms veering into bad taste for the sake of a joke. Which is fine. A joke is a joke. MacFarlane seems to hold nothing sacred and spreads the hate around equally.

So when he announced his involvement in Bordertown, a show created by Family Guy writer Mark Hentemann, it’s easy to think this might not be a good idea.

Because it doesn’t really sound like a good idea. Or terribly funny. It’s about a border patrol agent in America who maintains a tense relationship with his neighbor, a hard-working Mexican immigrant. It’s possible this show could go for a soft side, but there’s nothing in MacFarlane’s history that suggests he is capable of that.

Will we see repeated cameos from Consuela, the hispanic maid? I hope for the sake of national healing, the answer is yes.

As much as Family Guy has fallen out of favor with its biggest fans, simply because they grew up, those same folks have largely refused to give Seth MacFarlane‘s Dads a chance. However, because Seth Macfarlane’s work currently comprises about 9% of Fox’s entire weekly line-up, they’re not so quick to kill Dads. In fact, the network showed a pretty big commitment by picking it up for a full season, rather than just a handful more episodes.

Also, it looks as though it’s EXTREMELY cheap to make, and if you’re going to lose to HBO and AMC on Sundays, you might as well do so spending as little money as possible.

I would make a bunch of jokes about how crass and low-brow the show is, but lots of other people have done that already, and I haven’t seen the show.

But I’ve heard it’s bad.

The show hasn’t come out yet, but the Seth MacFarlane/Seth Green/Giovani Ribisi comedy has already been screened by some, including the Media Action Network for Asian-Americans, and they don’t like what they see.

While Dads doesn’t seem to have one big issue, there sure seem to be a lot of little ones, including:

  • reference and depiction of a sexy Asian schoolgirl (fine)
  • an old man referring to Asians as “Orientals” (maybe it’s more a commentary on the old man)
  • That same old man warning someone to “never trust the Chinese” (hmmm…)
  • a joke about a tiny Asian penis (ummm…)

So, beyond all that, there’s some sort of casual plot that presumably holds all this stuff together. The group is asking that the pilot be re-shot to be less awful towards them, and the producers are claiming that the show will be offensive to EVERYONE, and that Asians were just the first up. Not a super-powerful defense.

Can’t imagine that this was the premiere buzz that Dads wanted, so we’ll see if they stay the course on this one.

After years and years of catty digs at one another, television’s feuding families will finally meet face-to-face. The Simpsons and The Griffins will finally meet this fall when the cast of Family Guy appears on The Simpsons. However, based on TVLine’s description, it won’t be the bloodletting we’re all expecting.

It doesn’t matter in the least to Homer that Peter is (in his jaundiced eyes) albino — in no time, the plus-sized pals are drinking brews and debating whether Duff or Pawtucket is the better beer. Meanwhile, Stewie is charmed by Bart’s old-school mischief; Lisa makes it her mission to find Meg’s talent (good luck with that!); and Marge and Lois become bosom buddies.

It’s all well and good that television’s most popular animated families are burying the hatchet, but I recommend that they don’t let Quagmire near Marge. Things didn’t go so well the last time those two met.

Seth MacFarlane reiterated that he will not be hosting the Oscars this year, with the official excuse being scheduling problems, but the actual excuse more likely lying in the realm of “Hosting the Oscars sucks. Leave me alone.”

However, it’s not like Seth is going to step down without suggesting a replacement to returning producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. His suggestion? Joaquin Phoenix.

Although Joaquin Phoenix would be a very bizarre choice out of context, in light of the past two years of hosts, the beardy weirdo would seem like the logical move. Instead of speeches and comedy bits, Phoenix could stare at the crowd and intermittently sip from the water bottle.

Can’t no one get offended by that!

Tina Fey, who knocked it out of the park with her Golden Globes-hosting alongside Amy Poehler, has responded to general inquiries as to whether she would host the Oscars.

“No way.”

It’s so funny. Seth MacFarlane said the same thing when people asked him if he would come back next year.

In the Huffington Post, Fey offered her take on the “opportunity”: “But I just feel like that gig is so hard. Especially for, like, a woman — the amount of months that would be spent trying on dresses alone … no way.”

So there you have it. Tina Fey, who seems to be among the most gracious and game people in Hollywood thinks the hosting gig is for the birds. It’s only a matter of time before Neil Patrick Harris gets the call, lest Billy Crystal be thawed out, blasted with pancake makeup, and amble lifelessly towards the stage to make fun of Jack Nicholson in Heartburn or something.

When asked if he would host the Oscars again next year, or any other time, Seth MacFarlane took to Twitter to say, “No way. Lotta fun to have done it, though.”

I’m sure what he meant was “FUCK EVERYONE. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?” but was a little too polite to post that on Twitter. This leaves the masses wondering who the next lamb to the slaughter is. I would be tempted to say Billy Crystal, but only if we took the metaphor a step further and actually slaughtered Billy Crystal onstage, with co-host Kristen Stewart, bruises and all, plunging a serpentine dagger into his stomach then ripping it across his abdomen in one deft move, allowing him to live long enough to stagger around the stage, mouth agape, as his entrails fell to the floor. And should he prove too resilient to die within 45 seconds, the orchestra would “play him off,” letting Javier Bardem know it was time to step up from his first-row seat and break his neck while whispering three unknown words into Crystal’s ear.

But yearh, Seth MacFarlane won’t be hosting next year.

MacFarlane is prepping A Million Ways To Die In The West, a Wild West comedy in which he will star and direct. Written with his Ted collaborators Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild, the Western will find humor in all of the dangers and perils of life in the late 1800s. So, prepare yourself for a prolonged diarrhea scene. Anyone who’s played Oregon Trail knows it’s in there. (THR)

MacFarlane will executive produce and, let’s face it, probably try to find a way to sing on the show.

This is MacFarlane’s nine millionth collaboration with Fox, including The Winner, Family Guy, The Cleveland Show,  and American Dad. Okay. Fifth. But that’s still a lot. I mean, how many development deals have you struck with Fox?

Probably zero, I bet.

Family Guy‘s mailer for its Emmy consideration for Outstanding Comedy Series is potentially offensive. Also, the sky is blue.

The campaign, which features a svelte Peter Griffin with the caption, “Come on, you bloated, overprivileged Brentwood Jews. Let us into your little club,” is probably offensive because many of the Jews voting for the Emmys might live in nicer neighborhoods, like Bel Air or Beverly Hills. The Hollywood Reporter and Variety both declined to run the ad, so the powers that be are just mailing it directly to Emmy voters. (Note: that link looks like it will take you to an Emmy-related article, but it’s really a link to a piece about dildo scenes in movies. Fine. Don’t believe me.)

Family Guy, like its predecessor South Park, has made such a knack out of offending people that at this point, a stunt like this is as likely to shock someone as a Madonna performance is. That said, it’s funny to see Seth Marcfarlane and Co. keep trying to raise the bar, possibly just out of boredom and a general malaise.

Oh, and on the inside, there’s a pic of Stewie with the text, “It’s a secret ballot. You can still tell people you voted for Modern Family.”

Why would you tell anyone you voted for Modern Family? Even if you did? Parks and Rec or bust.

We all know that Mark Wahlberg is very, very tough. We know this because he won’t stop telling us. In fact, if he had been on Flight 11 on 9/11, there would not have been a 9/11. It’s true! According to Mark Wahlberg (who didn’t offer to enlist in the military and fight the forces of Al Qaeda).

He has since apologized, but the Invincible star came under fire today for this quote:

“If I was on that plane with my kids, it wouldn’t have went down like it did,” Wahlberg said. “There would have been a lot of blood in that first-class cabin and then me saying, ‘OK, we’re going to land somewhere safely, don’t worry.”

There still would have been a Planet of the Apes remake though. He can’t prevent every tragedy, you guys.

In honor of this incredibly insensitive claim, we’ve rounded up 11 more dumb and selfish things celebrities said about 9/11. Thanks for sharing!

Marion Cotillard

“We see other towers of the same kind being hit by planes. Are they burned? There was a tower, I believe it was in Spain, which burnt for 24 hours. It never collapsed. None of these towers collapsed. And there [in New York], in a few minutes, the whole thing collapsed.”

“It was a money-sucker because they were finished, it seems to me, by 1973, and to re-cable all that, to bring up-to-date all the technology and everything, it was a lot more expensive, that work, than destroying them.”

Marion Cotillard believes it was just easier to hijack three planes, attack The Pentagon, and get the President involved than to hire to contractors to re-cable the World Trade Center.

Lee Ryan of Blue

“What about whales? They are ignoring animals that are more important. Animals need saving and that’s more important. This New York thing is being blown out of proportion. Who gives a f**k about New York when elephants are being killed. I’m not afraid to say this, it has to be said. I’m not afraid to say it and that’s why I’m the outspoken one from the band.”

Thank God someone so important is thinking of the whales.

Rachel Uchitel

“I believe Andy was meant to die because he was too good. I’m almost happy it ended the way it did because I’ve learned so many lessons from him. It would have been tragic if we got into fights and then divorced. I would be a fat housewife with three kids in Sands Point, LI.”

On her fiance’s death in the World Trade Center. She maintains she was misquoted.

With the announcement that Seth MacFarlane has been chosen to reboot “The Flintstones” franchise, there seems to be no shortage of opinions on the decisions. While some people feel the iconic cartoon should not be entrusted to someone known for his crude sense humor, others believe that MacFarlane is more than capable of striking a less vulgar tone when necessary. But what both parties fail to realize is that someday, when death calls us home, we’re going to feel pretty friggen stupid for wasting our precious time arguing about a cartoon. After all, wouldn’t our time be better spent watching clips of said cartoon via the Internet?

With that in mind, here are six awesome “Flintstonesparodies from Seth Macfarlane‘s”Family Guy.” Carpe diem!

Fred’s Ass

That’s not really fair. For a caveman, I’m sure Fred had remarkable hygiene. He had a Woolly Mammoth shower, and everything.

Erocktion

I always knew that Betty was a whore. I think it was her laugh that gave it away.

At the Club

Next time they hit the club, Fred and Barney might want to wear some shoes. Or at least bring some hot chicks.

Marriage Counselor

“Get my rocks off.” Get it? Get it?

Cops

I know this is a car chase. But technically, he’s still fleeing on foot.

Flintstones Universe

When Brian and Stewie were traveling through the multiverse, you knew it was just a matter of time before they ended up on “The Flintstones.” As you’d expect, it was only a matter of time before Rock Peter brought up wearing a “rock ring” during “rock sex.”

Animation juggernaut Seth MacFarlane has just gotten permission to move forward on reboots of “The Flintstones” as both both a TV show and a film. No word on whether or not the film would be animated (pleasedearGodyes) or yet another live-action film (pleasedearGodnoespeciallyifitinvolvesStephenBaldwin).

Understandably, the previous owners of the rights were concerned with MacFarlane’s track record of raunchy programming and how that would play with the venerable property. However, they made their peace with his involvement, probably around the same time that 20th Century Fox started backing up dump trucks of money to their houses.

I don’t see much upside to this news. Either MacFarlane will make it raunchy (and probably pretty entertaining) this time around, ruining the show’s legacy, or he will play it straight and give us an unfunny, dated cartoon, which everyone will have deemed unnecessary. I’m hoping for the former, but mostly I’m just hoping this doesn’t happen. (Deadline)

FOX has renewed their popular animated sitcomsFamily Guy” and”The Cleveland Show.” Seth MacFarlane could make it rain cheddar for a week and still have enough left over for sandwiches. Here’s the  press release:

FOX has renewed ANIMATION DOMINATION favorite FAMILY GUY for a tenth season and THE CLEVELAND SHOW for a fourth season, it was announced today by Kevin Reilly, President of Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company.

“For nine seasons, our viewers have been cracked up, delighted, surprised and, at times, gloriously disturbed by the mind of Seth MacFarlane – and they keep coming back for more,” said Reilly. “The Griffins and the Browns have become cornerstones of our Sunday nights, and we can’t wait to find out what new adventures Seth, Mike and Rich cook up for them next season.”

Looks like your Sunday night Animation Domination is secure, America.

Seth MacFarlane‘s Ted suddenly sounds a lot more attractive. Professional hot chick Laura Vandervoort has snagged the role of a really, really, really hot chick in the Mark Wahlberg talking teddy bear comedy. And apparently, her character is as blind as she is hot because the “Smallville” and “V” star  is described as “Tayna, a gorgeous salesgirl and a coworker of John (Wahlberg) at the rental car service who is clueless to the gaggle of men who drool over her all day.”

I assume the job description also requires she be sexually harassed by a talking teddy bear. And that’s not a dig toward Wahlberg. (Deadline)

Tornados have devastated the South, killing 300 people in their wake. Far less important: Fox is postponing new episodes of their animated series because of it. I think we’ll all manage just fine.

Due to national sensitivity about the storms, Fox is holding off on airing special crossover episodes of “Family Guy,” “American Dad” and “The Cleveland Show” until next season. The story device that brings all the universes together is a hurricane, so I can see how that would be in poor taste. Then again,”Family Guy” has aired lengthy musical numbers about people contracting AIDS and teenagers abandoning their babies in a dumpster, so I wouldn’t call Seth MacFarlane and Fox, “America’s Most Sensitive Content Team.”

I like that they’re employing the far-under utilized TV crossover gimmick, though these shows have all overlapped several times in the past. At least, “Family Guy” has with the other two. Now, if there was a “Simpsons” / MacFarlaneverse crossover, with some “Bob’s Burgers” sprinkled in, you’d have my very valuable attention. (Deadline)

Seth MacFarlane is making a movie about a teddy bear who’s best friends with a dude. Awesome. That means you’ll need a leading dude, who is Mark Wahlberg, someone to voice the bear, which will obviously be MacFarlane. I assume there’s a girlfriend to tell him he has to grow up: Mila Kunis, of course. I guess there also should be other women too, so… give one to… Jessica Stroup from “90210?” She does voices on”Family Guy” too, right? Done. Now, let’s focus up on this real-life teddy bear we’re all excited about.

In Ted, written and directed by MacFarlane, a child makes a Christmas wish that his teddy bear come to life. Be careful what you wish for, because 25 years later the talking bear is still hanging around with our now grown-up hero (Wahlberg), only he’s got a smoking habit and a bad attitude. So glad my Roger Rabbit doll didn’t come to life, as I had often hoped. Joel McHale plays Ted’s boss, and Stroup plays a woman who sleeps with said boss. Women characters: gotta love their willingness to sleep with male characters. (Hollywood Reporter)

Creator of universally beloved characters like the elderly pedophile and greased-up deaf guy, Seth MacFarlane, is working on a live-action comedy called Ted. And he’s gathering quite a cast, including Mila Kunis and Adam Scott. Now you can add the bizarro Ryan Gosling, Giovanni Ribisi to the list, who’s signed on to play “Donny, a man who’s obsessed with Ted.” In case you don’t know, “Ted” is a teddy bear who comes to life thanks to a childhood wish of a man to be played by Mark Wahlberg.

Since this is MacFarlane, the bear will probably be either British, gay, or both, and make a lot of rape jokes. You know, there was a time when in Hollywood you couldn’t get a cast like this to associate with rape jokes. Progress has its good points, I guess. (via Coming Soon)

Seth MacFarlane is keeping it in the animated family. He’s signed “Family Guy” daughter Mila Kunis to join Max Payne co-star Mark Wahlberg in Ted. Additionally, “Party Down” star and super-shopper Adam Scott is in talks to join the raunchy comedy. Kunis will play Wahlberg’s long-suffering girlfriend and Scott will play her boss who comes between the two.

The film, of course, revolves around a man and his childhood teddy bear that happens to be alive. Over the years, the bear has grown to be “a cursing, smoking, delinquent (voiced by MacFarlane) that is preventing the man from maturing.” No word yet on which of his four voices MacFarlane will use. With three hit films under his belt this year (one per nipple), Mark Wahlberg’s career is going as strong as ever. He’s already lined up his slate of 2011 films, one of which is Seth MacFarlane‘s comedy project Teddy Bear. We don’t know much about that one beyond it featuring a foul-mouthed teddy bear. But now thanks to Mark Wahlberg’s trailing off and rambling, we know a little bit more:

“I don’t know how much [Seth] wants me to tell, but it’s about this kid who gets a bear for Christmas. And, you know, it’s the ’70s — it’s one of those Teddy Ruxpin-ish teddy bears where you squeeze it and it says, ‘I love you!’ The kid wishes and dreams that the bear would come alive — and a Christmas wish must be granted — and it does [come alive]. Seth McFarlane’s voicing the bear — the bear is gonna look like a little teddy bear, but it’s motion-capture. It’s like ‘Avatar.’ It’s never been done before. It’s insane — I mean, what the bear does… The bear becomes famous, and that’s my ticket to getting things and living a life of privilege.”

The bear becomes famous and that’s your ticket to getting things and living a life of privilege? Is the bear named Donnie Wahlberg? (MTV)

Mark Wahlberg is in talks to star alongside a life-sized teddy bear in Seth MacFarlane's directorial debut, Ted. The R-rated comedy, also written by MacFarlane and "Family Guy" buds Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild, follows a normal Boston grown up guy who's still best friends with his childhood teddy bear that he wished would come to life, and it did. The bear however is a big slacker pain in the ass now and keeps Wahlberg's character from committing to adulthood. MacFarlane will provide the voice of the bear, which will be created through the magic of computers. I'm sure Dan Aykroyd would be more than happy to offer advice on voicing a CG bear. He's got that skill down pat. I also can't end this post without acknowledging that Ted has the exact same premise as Drop Dead Fred. The creator of "Family Guy" and "American Dad" has put about $20,000 worth of customized equipment into the vehicle in order to match its onscreen counterpart. According to one insider who has seen the car up close, it is nothing short of "insane." Some people will say that MacFarlane is a real butthead, and that spending so much money is about as useful as a screen door on a battleship. But those people should make like a tree and get outta here.

In a move that can only be described as heavy, Seth MacFarlane purchased an exact replica of the time-traveling DeLorean from Back to the Future, TMZ is reporting. The creator of "Family Guy" and "American Dad" has put about $20,000 worth of customized equipment into the vehicle in order to match its onscreen counterpart. According to one insider who has seen the car up close, it is nothing short of "insane."

Seth MacFarlane Assigned The Hoff’s Roastmaster http://www.screenjunkies.com/tv/tv-news/seth-macfarlane-assigned-the-hoffs-roastmaster/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/tv/tv-news/seth-macfarlane-assigned-the-hoffs-roastmaster/#comments Wed, 30 Nov -0001 00:00:00 +0000 Seth MacFarlane has stolen the Friars Club crown and sceptre from insult king Jeffrey Ross, as Comedy Central has chosen the "Family Guy" creator to head the Roast of David Hasselhoff. The evening, which is sure to not lack in fast food-centric material, will also feature Pamela Anderson, Whitney Cummings, Greg Giraldo, Lisa Lampanelli, (a scorned) Jeffrey Ross, Jerry Springer, and Hulk Hogan. Ah yes, the wild card. There's always one of them, like Bea Arthur at the Pam Anderson Roast or George Takai at the Shatner one. I just hope Hogan is writing his own material instead of using Lampenelli's toss-outs. The jokes about black guys wanting to f*ck him won't pack the same punch. (Movieline)
