However, it’s not like Seth is going to step down without suggesting a replacement to returning producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. His suggestion? Joaquin Phoenix.

Although Joaquin Phoenix would be a very bizarre choice out of context, in light of the past two years of hosts, the beardy weirdo would seem like the logical move. Instead of speeches and comedy bits, Phoenix could stare at the crowd and intermittently sip from the water bottle.

I would be tempted to say Billy Crystal, but only if we took the metaphor a step further and actually slaughtered Billy Crystal onstage, with co-host Kristen Stewart, bruises and all, plunging a serpentine dagger into his stomach then ripping it across his abdomen in one deft move, allowing him to live long enough to stagger around the stage, mouth agape, as his entrails fell to the floor. And should he prove too resilient to die within 45 seconds, the orchestra would “play him off,” letting Javier Bardem know it was time to step up from his first-row seat and break his neck while whispering three unknown words into Crystal’s ear.

But yearh, Seth MacFarlane won’t be hosting next year.

MacFarlane is prepping A Million Ways To Die In The West, a Wild West comedy in which he will star and direct. Written with his Ted collaborators Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild, the Western will find humor in all of the dangers and perils of life in the late 1800s. So, prepare yourself for a prolonged diarrhea scene. Anyone who’s played Oregon Trail knows it’s in there. (THR)

The show’s producer, Craig Zagan, made the announcement earlier today, saying, “We are thrilled to have Seth MacFarlane host the Oscars. His performing skills blend perfectly with our ideas for making the show entertaining and fresh.” 

Of course, by “entertaining,” Zagan means “anti-semetic” and by “fresh,” he means abortion jokes. (Deadline)

The network has given a put-pilot with series penalty commitment to a live-action comedy from MacFarlane and the writers behind summer box office hit Ted…

Ignore the gibberish in the first part of the sentence and just focus on the fact that Seth MacFarlane, Fox, and the Ted writers are all getting together to write a TV show about a couple guys whose fathers move in with them. MacFarlane will executive produce and, let’s face it, probably try to find a way to sing on the show.

This is MacFarlane’s nine millionth collaboration with Fox, including The Winner, Family Guy, The Cleveland Show,  and American Dad. Okay. Fifth. But that’s still a lot. I mean, how many development deals have you struck with Fox?

Probably zero, I bet.

The campaign, which features a svelte Peter Griffin with the caption, “Come on, you bloated, overprivileged Brentwood Jews. Let us into your little club,” is probably offensive because many of the Jews voting for the Emmys might live in nicer neighborhoods, like Bel Air or Beverly Hills. The Hollywood Reporter and Variety both declined to run the ad, so the powers that be are just mailing it directly to Emmy voters. (Note: that link looks like it will take you to an Emmy-related article, but it’s really a link to a piece about dildo scenes in movies. Fine. Don’t believe me.)

Family Guy, like its predecessor South Park, has made such a knack out of offending people that at this point, a stunt like this is as likely to shock someone as a Madonna performance is. That said, it’s funny to see Seth Marcfarlane and Co. keep trying to raise the bar, possibly just out of boredom and a general malaise.

Oh, and on the inside, there’s a pic of Stewie with the text, “It’s a secret ballot. You can still tell people you voted for Modern Family.”

Why would you tell anyone you voted for Modern Family? Even if you did? Parks and Rec or bust.

He has since apologized, but the Invincible star came under fire today for this quote:

“If I was on that plane with my kids, it wouldn’t have went down like it did,” Wahlberg said. “There would have been a lot of blood in that first-class cabin and then me saying, ‘OK, we’re going to land somewhere safely, don’t worry.”

There still would have been a Planet of the Apes remake though. He can’t prevent every tragedy, you guys.

When Brian and Stewie were traveling through the multiverse, you knew it was just a matter of time before they ended up on “The Flintstones.” As you’d expect, it was only a matter of time before Rock Peter brought up wearing a “rock ring” during “rock sex.”

Understandably, the previous owners of the rights were concerned with MacFarlane’s track record of raunchy programming and how that would play with the venerable property. However, they made their peace with his involvement, probably around the same time that 20th Century Fox started backing up dump trucks of money to their houses.

I don’t see much upside to this news. Either MacFarlane will make it raunchy (and probably pretty entertaining) this time around, ruining the show’s legacy, or he will play it straight and give us an unfunny, dated cartoon, which everyone will have deemed unnecessary. I’m hoping for the former, but mostly I’m just hoping this doesn’t happen. (Deadline)

FOX has renewed ANIMATION DOMINATION favorite FAMILY GUY for a tenth season and THE CLEVELAND SHOW for a fourth season, it was announced today by Kevin Reilly, President of Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company.

“For nine seasons, our viewers have been cracked up, delighted, surprised and, at times, gloriously disturbed by the mind of Seth MacFarlane – and they keep coming back for more,” said Reilly. “The Griffins and the Browns have become cornerstones of our Sunday nights, and we can’t wait to find out what new adventures Seth, Mike and Rich cook up for them next season.”

Looks like your Sunday night Animation Domination is secure, America.

I assume the job description also requires she be sexually harassed by a talking teddy bear. And that’s not a dig toward Wahlberg. (Deadline)

Due to national sensitivity about the storms, Fox is holding off on airing special crossover episodes of “Family Guy,” “American Dad” and “The Cleveland Show” until next season. The story device that brings all the universes together is a hurricane, so I can see how that would be in poor taste. Then again,”Family Guy” has aired lengthy musical numbers about people contracting AIDS and teenagers abandoning their babies in a dumpster, so I wouldn’t call Seth MacFarlane and Fox, “America’s Most Sensitive Content Team.”

I like that they’re employing the far-under utilized TV crossover gimmick, though these shows have all overlapped several times in the past. At least, “Family Guy” has with the other two. Now, if there was a “Simpsons” / MacFarlaneverse crossover, with some “Bob’s Burgers” sprinkled in, you’d have my very valuable attention. (Deadline)

In Ted, written and directed by MacFarlane, a child makes a Christmas wish that his teddy bear come to life. Be careful what you wish for, because 25 years later the talking bear is still hanging around with our now grown-up hero (Wahlberg), only he’s got a smoking habit and a bad attitude. So glad my Roger Rabbit doll didn’t come to life, as I had often hoped. Joel McHale plays Ted’s boss, and Stroup plays a woman who sleeps with said boss. Women characters: gotta love their willingness to sleep with male characters. (Hollywood Reporter)

Since this is MacFarlane, the bear will probably be either British, gay, or both, and make a lot of rape jokes. You know, there was a time when in Hollywood you couldn’t get a cast like this to associate with rape jokes. Progress has its good points, I guess. (via Coming Soon)

Seth MacFarlane is keeping it in the animated family. He’s signed “Family Guy” daughter Mila Kunis to join Max Payne co-star Mark Wahlberg in Ted. Additionally, “Party Down” star and super-shopper Adam Scott is in talks to join the raunchy comedy. Kunis will play Wahlberg’s long-suffering girlfriend and Scott will play her boss who comes between the two.

The film, of course, revolves around a man and his childhood teddy bear that happens to be alive. Over the years, the bear has grown to be “a cursing, smoking, delinquent (voiced by MacFarlane) that is preventing the man from maturing.” No word yet on which of his four voices MacFarlane will use. With three hit films under his belt this year (one per nipple), Mark Wahlberg’s career is going as strong as ever. He’s already lined up his slate of 2011 films, one of which is Seth MacFarlane‘s comedy project Teddy Bear. We don’t know much about that one beyond it featuring a foul-mouthed teddy bear. But now thanks to Mark Wahlberg’s trailing off and rambling, we know a little bit more:

“I don’t know how much [Seth] wants me to tell, but it’s about this kid who gets a bear for Christmas. And, you know, it’s the ’70s — it’s one of those Teddy Ruxpin-ish teddy bears where you squeeze it and it says, ‘I love you!’ The kid wishes and dreams that the bear would come alive — and a Christmas wish must be granted — and it does [come alive]. Seth McFarlane’s voicing the bear — the bear is gonna look like a little teddy bear, but it’s motion-capture. It’s like ‘Avatar.’ It’s never been done before. Mark Wahlberg is in talks to star alongside a life-sized teddy bear in Seth MacFarlane’s directorial debut, Ted. The R-rated comedy, also written by MacFarlane and "Family Guy" buds Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild, follows a normal Boston grown up guy who’s still best friends with his childhood teddy bear that he wished would come to life, and it did. The bear however is a big slacker pain in the ass now and keeps Wahlberg’s character from committing to adulthood.

MacFarlane will provide the voice of the bear, which will be created through the magic of computers. I’m sure Dan Aykroyd would be more than happy to offer advice on voicing a CG bear. He’s got that skill down pat. I also can’t end this post without acknowledging that Ted has the exact same premise as Drop Dead Fred. If you haven’t already stolen the banned "Family Guy" episode in some form or another, you’ll have the chance to watch it on DVD September 28th. "Partial Terms of Endearment" was aired in the U.K. but never in the U.S. because it was deemed too offensive for such a high-brow culture that puts mozzarella cheese sticks in a grilled cheese.

The episode follows what happens when Lois agrees to become a surrogate mother for an infertile couple, a decision Peter isn’t happy about. Doesn’t seem so controversial to me, but then again I’m writing this post while perched atop a pile of styrofoam cups. Yeah, that’s right! They don’t decompose! The DVD will sell for $14.98, and before you start b*tching about the price for a single episode, it also includes some special features: The Seth and Alex Almost Like Comedy Show, Family Guy: Live and Uncensored Table Read, Animatic for "Partial Terms of Endearment," Nine Original Songs Composed for "Family Guy," and a Digital Copy. In a move that can only be described as heavy, Seth MacFarlane purchased an exact replica of the time-traveling DeLorean from Back to the Future, TMZ is reporting. The creator of "Family Guy" and "American Dad" has put about $20,000 worth of customized equipment into the vehicle in order to match its onscreen counterpart. According to one insider who has seen the car up close, it is nothing short of "insane."

Some people will say that MacFarlane is a real butthead, and that spending so much money is about as useful as a screen door on a battleship. But those people should make like a tree and get outta here.

Seth MacFarlane has stolen the Friars Club crown and sceptre from insult king Jeffrey Ross, as Comedy Central has chosen the "Family Guy" creator to head the Roast of David Hasselhoff. The evening, which is sure to not lack in fast food-centric material, will also feature Pamela Anderson, Whitney Cummings, Greg Giraldo, Lisa Lampanelli, (a scorned) Jeffrey Ross, Jerry Springer, and Hulk Hogan. Ah yes, the wild card. There’s always one of them, like Bea Arthur at the Pam Anderson Roast or George Takai at the Shatner one. I just hope Hogan is writing his own material instead of using Lampenelli’s toss-outs. The jokes about black guys wanting to f*ck him won’t pack the same punch. (Movieline)

The show "Drawn Together" may have been cancelled, but that door closing left one giant window open for a movie. The Drawn Together Movie: The Movie! pulls a post-modern, meta headtrip by centering on the housemates, who deduce their show has been cancelled after they realize they can swear without being bleeped. "Family Guy" mastermind Seth MacFarlane also has a cameo as I.S.R.A.E.L. (Intelligent Smart Robot Animation Lady). Judging by MacFarlane’s participation and the necrophilia in the above trailer, there’s a good chance this could be one helluva laugh/vomit inducing cartoon caper.

The Drawn Together Movie: The Movie! hits stores on DVD tomorrow.

Seth MacFarlane has augmented his sure-fire formula for TV success in order to apply it to the big screen. But only slightly. MacFarlane is working out a deal to direct Ted, an R-rated comedy about a man who must choose between his girlfriend and his best friend — a talking teddy bear. "Family Guy" co-star Mila Kunis is being considered for the role of the girlfriend.

MacFarlane will also loan his satin-y smooth voice to the CG-animated bear. I’m thinking it’s somewhere along the lines of Snuggle, if Snuggle cursed and humped legs. Somewhere in Hollywood, Verne Troyer is cursing the advent of computer animation. (Deadline)

The panel for the "The Family Guy" spinoff "The Cleveland Show" didn’t have as much hype as the panels that were premiering big movie trailers or had anything remotely to do with either Lost or Twilight.  What it did bring, however, was laughs, and lots of them.  Instead of rambling, the group of panelists, which included Seth Macfarlane, Mike Henry, Jamie Kennedy, and the rest of the principal cast, let the show speak for itself, showing an extended clip of the pilot and a clip of an episode airing in December…

The first clip established Cleveland as a surrogate father to the new cast, including roughing up a boyfriend (Jamie Kennedy as the “urban enthusiast” Federline Jones) of his new flame’s daughter Roberta, as well as teaching the young Rollo (think Stewie mixed with Tim Meadows‘ "Ladies’ Man" character) how to sneak looks at the ladies in his kindergarten class without getting caught.

The second clip was a favorite with the guests in Ballroom 20.  When Cleveland tries to get Roberta to pledge her virginity to God, Cleveland Jr. jumps to pledge himself to God in an effort to impress his dad.  Cleveland, being the ladies’ man he is, does not want his son to be a hapless virgin.  Cleveland’s technique for getting his son to realize the dire need to lose one’s virginity, you ask?  Show him the inside of a comic book convention.  That backfires, however, when they both realize that there’s a bunch of cool stuff at comic-book conventions.

The style of the show seemed very similar to "Th Family Guy," judging by the clips.  One might go so far as to ask, “Well, what’s different about it, then?”  Awesome question!  So awesome, Screen Junkies already asked Cleveland himself, Mike Henry.  Video clip ahoy!

Not mentioned is the presence of other guest actors, such as legendary director David Lynch playing “A bartender who looks a lot like legendary director David Lynch.”

The group also mentioned that while they intend to have some "Family Guy" crossover, they intend to let Cleveland do his own thang on his own show.  Judging by the response the clips got, and Mike Henry’s winning enthusiasm for the show, it seems like the Macfarlane factory has another hit on their hands.  I, for one, have always wanted "Family Guy" to be funkier, sweeter, and feature Christmas songs with Earth, Wind, and Fire.  It seems like The Cleveland Show is addressing all of my concerns.
