Why, for the love of Zod, it’s Michael Shannon in a Zod-damned motion capture suit!

General Zod portrayer Michael Shannon was photographed on the set of Superman: Man of Steel recently wearing what could be a really fashion-forward outfit, but is more likely a motion capture suit, indicating, of course, that there will be a CGI component to his character and the film at large. This is probably the least surprising news ever for a Zack Snyder film, but it’s a slow news day, so let’s make a humungous deal out of it, shall we?

When asked about the CGI component, Shannon originally dodged the question, but those little pingpong balls offered a window to a truth not even the Boardwalk Empire star could deny. After deflecting the question in an MTV interview, he came clean with Moviefone. Because who could lie to Moviefone?

Yeah, it’s one of the most humiliating garments that exists in the known universe, yes. It’s very tight. It has a variety of different colors and shapes on it and it makes you feel like you’re the court jester. And it’s funny because when I met with Zack we were talking about it before it started and he mentioned that there was going to be a lot of CGI, or whatever. I said, ‘Just don’t make me wear one of those silly suits.’ He said, ‘Oh, yeah, don’t worry, I know exactly what you’re talking about.’ I was like, ‘It’s going to be really hard for me to be intimidating if I have to wear one of those silly suits.’ He said, ‘I totally understand.’ Then I showed up and he’s like, ‘Dude, I swear to God, it’s going to be so bad ass when we done. Trust me, it’s going to be wicked.’ And, you know, people understand and you get used to it. The first day, you feel like you’re getting rushed by a fraternity… and then it wears off the next day. Because I’m not the only one wearing one – there are other people wearing them, too.

‘Superman’ Set Photos Aren’t That Super, Man

Because it’s an amazingly slow news day, we’ve got some set pics from Superman: Man of Steel. And while they don’t show much in the way of characters or action, this gallery more than makes up for it with three shots of the same house from the same angle. Before you ask yourself, “Why would someone do that?” let me share with you that the shadows on the house indicate that the pics wer taken at different times. So there.

We also see that the school buses belong to the Smallville School District. That’s right. They stenciled “Smallville” on perfectly good school buses, all in the name of authenticity. What commitment by Zach Snyder and Co.

All is not lost, though, because the house in question is the Kent family farmhouse. Out front is where Clark and his date got picked up from the prom, and off to the left, you can see the fence that Clark tried to climb over, and ended up tearing his scrotum. Not really, but admit you looked. Everyone knows that Superman‘s scrotum can only be torn with a kryptonite chainsaw. Duh.

What’s that? Ooooh. Alright, I’m being told that’s Christian Bale as Batman throwing ‘bows at Tom Hardy‘s Bane. And look at the epic beatdown going on between the cops and Teamsters (Bane’s crew?) outside of City Hall. If stuff like this happened more often, I’d be way more interested in local politics.

'The Dark Knight Rises' In New Teaser Trailer

We’re probably going to be seeing a lot of set photos from The Dark Knight Rises before the whole ball of batarangs gets released into theaters next summer – but we’ll only get one first look at Tom Hardy as Bane on set. With that sentiment in mind, here are several just-released set photos showing exactly that. He appears to be doing what most would call “standing around” in these, but they’re still a good look at the costume and that creepy-ass mask (note: not a “creepy ass mask.” That would be different). ‘Total Recall’ And ‘Superman’ Pics Give Us Peeks Into A Futuristic World And A Smashed Truck, Respectively

We’ve got some set pics from both Total Recall and the upcoming Superman: Man of Steel. And it’s a good thing it’s not a contest because Man of Steel would lose. Bad. I’m not even sure if those are set pics or police photos of vandals in the parking lot. A windshield is smashed and a truck container gets a whole blown through it. That could be the work of Superman or a teenager with a baseball bat.

Total Recall, however, gives us what appears to be a robot clandestinely urinating in the corner, a few futuristic police cruisers (but sadly no Johnny Cabs), and some sort of bustling transportation hub, possibly the immigration office from the original.

Advantage: Total Recall.

But again, it’s not a contest. But if it was, Man of Steel would lose. Hard.

Why should Russell Brand and Alec Baldwin be the only ones who get to dress ridiculously on the set of Rock Of Ages? Tom Cruise likes to have fun too, you guys. Remember Les Grossman? Well, it looks like Tom is sinking his teeth into this character just as deeply if not more. It’s as if he’s completely transformed himself into Mark Wahlberg from Rock Star.

I was on Tom Cruise’s website getting lost in those eyes when I discovered the first pic of Cruise in costume as the heavy metal wailer Stacee Jaxx in Adam Shankman‘s adaptation. It’s likely he’s belting out “Renegade” by Styxx or an original song he wrote that goes,”I am Tom Cruise!!! Tom. Tom. T-tom. C-c-c-c-c-cruuuuuuissseeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOWZA!” It’s titled “Tom Cruise.”

Take a look at the cast of the American Pie sequel, American Reunion, looking right back at you. I know you’d prefer more pastry humping, but at least these set photos prove that this thing is actually happening, for better or for worse. However, Stifler (Sean William Scott) is mysteriously absent from the glad handing. Unless he’s hiding in one of Eugene Levy‘s eyebrows. They’re quite spacious. Hell, Andy Rooney‘s eyebrows could seek shelter in them.

‘Hunger Games’ Set Pics Feature Elizabeth Banks And Some Trailers

A strange assortment of The Hunger Games set pics hit the street today, and they feature Elizabeth Banks looking like a Victorian flapper girl, the The Hunger Games HQ looking forbidding, and Josh Hutcherson looking like an underemployed actor. Beyond that…there’s not much.

Aside from the building design, the only thing to really comment on here is Elizabeth Banks‘ getup, which doesn’t look quite as dystopian as I would have though. She kind of looks like zombie Eleanor Roosevelt, which I guess is dystopian, but is mostly just awful. I’m assuming the umbrella is strictly for utilitarian purposes and won’t make it into the movie, but I’m hesitant to rule anything out after seeing that outfit. HEY GIRLFRIEND!

Stephen Chbosky’s The Perks Of Being A Wallflower will at long last give us our first chance to see Emma Watson not act against a green screen. Starring Logan Lerman, the story centers around a teen who finds himself through drugs and sex and by writing letters to an anonymous recipient. The movie co-stars Mae Whitman, Nina Dobrev Paul Rudd, and Johnny Simmons. Thanks to Lerman’s Twitter, we now know what the top half of Emma Watson’s head will look like in the movie.

Not sure what the rest of her body will look like. It could be a gorilla suit or a hot chick. Only time will tell. (ONTD)

Pics From Wes Anderson’s ‘Moonrise Kingdom’ Show Edward Norton As A Boy Scout

Some set pics have been released from Wes Anderson‘s newest film, Moonrise Kingdom, and they seem to contain your RDA of Wes Anderson hallmarks. We’ve got people wearing uniforms, a timeless set, washed-out colors, and of course, William Murray.

We’ve also got our first look at Edward Norton looking a lot like a scout master (as opposed to real life, when he only sorta looks like a scout master). All in all, it looks like trademark Wes Anderson, who has managed to stick to a style with enough varying stories that audiences haven’t quite tired of his conventions the way that they have other auteurs that peddle in quirk.

While the plot of Moonrise Kingdom has been the subject of much speculation, a few details have emerged. Playlist conveys that this will be his first period film, set in 1960′s New England, in which a boy and girl fall in love and run away, turning their hometown upside down in the process. Sounds ripe for Anderson’s quirky characters and his obscure Kinks songs.

Some brave soul was able to escape the set of Men In Black III with a few spy photos of the current production. What manner of technology allowed them to pull off such a feat? Was it an alien device that allowed them to cloak their whereabouts while the images was captured, or perhaps they wer taken via a high-powered telescope capable of seeing far into adjacent galaxies. Either that or they simply walked up with a Canon Elf. Story developing…

In the photos, we see Will Smith’s Agent J, Josh Brolin‘s Agent K, and a cowboy who showed up for work in a pink shirt hanging out in a field in Queens, NY. What are those shiny jetpack/rocket booster things they are trying on? Time machines, maybe? Or super-awesome jetpacks?? Whichever, I want one. (Faded Youth)

We have picture proof, tweeted by Sofia Vergara herself, that the beautiful Colombian actress is being mistaken for a punching bag on the set of the Three Stooges movie. These horrific shots show in great detail the abuse Vergara is undergoing for the sake of slapstick comedy. One would assume the Stooges are slapping and eye-poking much harder now than they did in the old days. Learn how to pull your punches, Larry, Moe, and Curly. The world isn’t done ogling Sofia yet.

I’m just playin’, y’all! The above set pics provided by On Location Vacations were taken during the filming of a car crash scene. The ones that Sofia herself tweeted are supposedly a result of the same scene, but I also know how Moe gets when his hand towels aren’t on the rack straight. Don’t let him intimidate you, girl. First Set Pic From ‘AL:VH’ Has Lincoln, But No Vampires

The first photo from the set of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter has been released, and what it lacks in action, it more than makes up for in rich character development. Also, I’m beginning to question the production values of this project, as the U.S. flags featured so prominently don’t even have the requisite 50 stars. Sure, it’s a small oversight, but the little things add up. I hope it was an oversight, and the producers weren’t omitting stars to save money, because that would be VERY unpatriotic.

When he’s not busy commanding the Union Army, freeing slaves, or slaying the undead, Abraham Lincoln (played by Benjamin Walker) enjoys getting on a nice wooden stage so that stately white men may stare at the back of his head for time indeterminate. Don’t believe me? Believe this:

Beyond that, there isn’t much to distinguish this set pic from a photograph of a gathering of Civil War re-creationists. They could have given us a Mary Todd upskirt shot.

Things Are Looking Quite Jiggy On The ‘MIB III’ Set

After noted screenwriter William Smith declared that the script wasn’t up to his new standards, things were looking a little dicey for the third installment of the blockbuster franchise. Well, sleep easy, fans of gratuitous sequels. Will Smith retreated to his cabin in the woods and, quill in hand, rewrote what many will find to be the most compelling story since he regaled us with the exploits of a suave cupid named Hitch. Enter: Men in Black III.

Everything seems to be tracking well in these picture taken on set at Coney Island. We’ve got Will Smith looking like his own grandfather, Josh Brolin as a biker, a Pussycat Doll and a black midget.

I’m really happy that Big Willie was able to get this thing back on track. Try to flex on him? Don’t be silly.

Behind the scenes photos from the Spider-Man reboot have blanketed the entertainment blogosphere like so much webbing, but this is the first time we’re seeing what might be Rhys Ifans in Lizard make-up, hiding his scaly shame behind a mask. That makes me so angry. What’s that masked menace Ifans got to hide? Suddenly, I know J. Jonah Jameson’s pain.

New ‘Hangover 2′ Pic Loses Points For Lack Of Monkey

A new still has been released for The Hangover 2 and loses points right off the bat for not featuring that monkey. Though the guys look pretty stressed out. Maybe they lost the monkey? I know I’d be pretty bummed if I lost a monkey that toured with the Stones. That thing is an automatic chick magnet.

One thing we know they won’t be losing this time around is Doug. Justin Bartha tells Empire in the latest print edition, “Doug isn’t lost in this one. There are similar circumstances, but he’s a little bit more involved.”

We’ll have to wait for a full-length trailer to find out exactly what is going on in this film, what role the monkey plays, and where Zach Galifianakis puts his penis this time around. (via The Playlist)

Tee hee. Jude Law looks ridiculous dressed as some kind of dick on the set of Contagion.

In Steven Soderbergh‘s unofficial sequel to Bubble Boy, Law plays a scientist recruited by the CDC to prevent the spread of a deadly virus no matter what Yo Outfit snaps may be lobbed his way. He’s joined in the film by Matt Damon, Kate Winslet, Gwyneth Paltrow, Marion Cotillard, Lawrence Fishbourne, Bryan Cranston, Demitri Martin and Elliott Gould. Look forward to silly pictures of them soon. Seriously, though. It’s 2011. There have got to be less dorky ways to prevent infection.

Here’s a first look at Leonardo DiCaprio as J. Edgar Hoover in Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar. The film explores Hoover’s closeted homosexuality and his relationship with Clyde Toulson, played by the Winklevie, Armie Hammer. Tell me, does the man below look gay to you? The way he squints and lets that cigarette dangle from his lip. Straight as an arrow. But I suppose looks can be deceiving. Toulson didn’t give him the name “Hoover the Vacuum” for no reason. You’ll have to wait for the movie to see if my tasteless joke makes it in. I bet Eastwood cuts it.

Couple Of Bros Broin’ Around On ‘Contraband’ Set

As a guy who spends 70% of his day looking at pictures of Kate Beckinsale, these Beckinsale-less Contraband set photos are a real punch in the gut. You don’t have to worry about them giving away any major details. Unless you consider Mark Wahlberg and Lukas Haas disobeying Louisiana state traffic laws a major detail. The actors can be seen broin’ out in the back of a mud-spotted pick-up truck. They’re just asking for a ticket if they insist on traveling that way.

They’re more than likely discussing an “Entourage” role for Haas. I’m sure the writers would be willing to write an especially spindly character into the plot. He could be the anti-Turtle. (JustJared)

Superhero Fashion Week Continues: New Pics Of ‘Captain America’ And ‘Thor’

Spider-Man, Captain America and Thor would like you to know that they that they look pretty cool in their superhero clothes too.

First, we have Thor gritting his God teeth in anger before giving someone the business end of that hammer of his. Not sure what’s going on with the really ornate scenery behind him. He’s either in Asgard or an NBA players bathroom. I haven’t seen enough episodes of “Cribs” to be able to identify which player.

Then we have a snapshot of Chris Evans suited as the Star-Spangled Avenger himself. The leatherhead style costume is pretty cool. It’s a great blend of old-timey and modern day. Plus you can see his abs through leather. That’s how you know he’s seriously good at thwarting Nazis. It’s also nice to see that wall of Iron Men behind him. I’m not sure how functional those suits are but they look intimidating. New rule: the CEO of Marvel is now in charge of all of our wars. Get on that, Pentagon. (via Entertainment Weekly)

Jim Carrey was spotted on the set of Mr. Popper’s Penguins in New York City’s Central Park canoodling with none other than two penguins. He seems to be thoroughly unimpressed with their presence. Maybe it’s because Morgan Freeman isn’t narrating their every move. I was hoping they’d be real penguins, but there’s something too stoic about them. They’re either so stunned that they’re working with comedy legend Jim Carrey, or they’re robots. I just suddenly got the urge to rewatch Batman Returns. (Cinema Blend)

We have photo proof that hipsters have been loitering around the set of the new Muppet Movie. The muppet in question goes by the name of Walter and probably listens to bands named after the sounds that pots make when they hit the floor. It was once believed that Michael Cera would provide the voice of Walter (the hipster cherry on top), but in fact the muppet’s puppeteer Peter Linz will take on the task. Nice headband, Linz. A photo of Karl Urban decked out in Judge Dredd gear for the upcoming Pete Travis-directed Dredd has found its way online. Comic book artist Jock tweeted the pic that was taken during rehearsal, which explains the low quality. Dredd‘s suit is definitely more leathery than Sly’s in the 1995 Judge Dredd. Also, what do you guys think of Urban, mainly around the mouth area? Is he rocking the right amount of stumble? Sporting a sufficient frown? Damn that Dredd mask for hiding the eyes.
