See The 1st Set Photos From ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ If You Can Handle it

Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight Rises is easily the most anticipated movie currently in production. As a result, we have to publish all kinds of stories about it, from casting rumors to set photos. Here are the first of the latter group, which appear to show a mysterious puddle of green slime.

Unless you remember your making-of featurettes, in which case you’d know that the color green is often used to remove part of an image and replace it with CGI. So in all likelihood, this puddle won’t be bright green when we see it in the movie. Now as to what it could actually be, that’s just speculation at this point. I’m going to be bold, and say that it’s water. Water puddles are pretty common, so I think that makes the most sense. You read it here first. (Batman On Cinema)

Universally beloved auteur Roman Polanski is at a place in his career where he can direct any project he wishes – provided it doesn’t require him to enter the United States. And so his next movie is a pretty unconventional choice: Carnage, a real-time drama about two sets of parents meeting at dinner to discuss the fight their children got into at school. If you’re not already excited about the movie – here are the actors playing the 4 parts: Jodie Foster, John C. Reilly, Kate Winslet and Christoph Waltz! Here’s one of the stars, Jodie Foster, with more on the movie:

“It all happens in real-time, so it’s about an hour and 45 minutes of negotiation between two sets of parents and how it all falls apart. Kind of like ‘Who’s Afraid Of Virginia Woolf?,’ but a little funnier. There’s a lot of wit.”

Sounds pretty good, right? Almost good enough to make you forget about Polanski’s, uh, hobbies. Anyway, here are three set photos from the film, which you can look at in either righteous anger, eager anticipation, or both. (via The Playlist)

Production Actually Begins On ‘The Hobbit’

As promised, production has begun on Peter Jackson‘s upcoming The Hobbit, which will prove once and for all if Peter Jackson is really suited to adapt novels by J.R.R. Tolkien. This announcement comes with a confirmation of the cast, most of which has already been rumored or announced. It also comes with two set photos showing director Peter Jackson traipsing about Middle Earth like some hairy wizard. Here’s the full skinny on the cast, straight from the Warner Brothers/New Line press release:

“Martin Freeman takes the title role as Bilbo Baggins and Ian McKellen returns in the role of Gandalf the Grey. The Dwarves are played by Richard Armitage (Thorin Oakenshield), Ken Stott (Balin), Graham McTavish (Dwalin), William Kircher (Bifur) James Nesbitt (Bofur), Stephen Hunter (Bombur), Rob Kazinsky (Fili), Aidan Turner (Kili), Peter Hambleton (Gloin), John Callen (Oin), Jed Brophy (Nori), Mark Hadlow (Dori) and Adam Brown (Ori). Reprising their roles from The Lord of the Rings trilogy are Cate Blanchett as Galadriel, Andy Serkis as Gollum and Elijah Wood as Frodo. Jeffrey Thomas and Mike Mizrahi also join the cast as Dwarf Kings Thror and Thrain, respectively. Further casting announcements are expected.”

Huzzah! There’s also a Facebook page launched by Jackson, who as you might know has a knack for keeping interested fans in the know about his ongoing productions. See Your Favorite Stars Standing Around In Set Photos From ‘Safe House’

The upcoming CIA thriller Safe House promises action, suspense, intrigue, and Denzel Washington looking like a crazy person. Unfortunately, these set photos from the movie only have one of those things, unless a picture of Ryan Reynolds on a motorcycle counts as “action.” The movie, which is set to come out in early 2012, is about the character played by Ryan Reynolds, “Matt Weston, a CIA agent, who must escort rogue ex-agent Tobin Frost, played by Washington, to safety after assassins destroyed their original safe house.” Anyway, check out the photos, but only if you’re in a safe, secure location unknown by enemy agents.
