What’s the best way to follow-up a highly praised, Oscar nominated turn in one of the year’s top dramas? If you guessed, “star in the Carrie remake that nobody wants made,” you may have guessed correctly.

Rumors say the producers of the Stephen King adaptation have put Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit) at the top of their casting wish list. I’ll admit that Steinfeld is an excellent idea – she has a furious intensity and she’s young enough. The questions are: will they actually offer her the part and will she take it? I’m thinking she can do better, but if MGM and Screen Gems pull up to her door with a ton of $10 horses, who knows?

Meanwhile, you know who I’m guessing is way lower on that list? Megan Fox, who’s been lobbying for the part. Just like Fox is the stuff of my fantasies, this role will likely remain a fantasy for her. (CinemaBlend)

Megan Fox Wants To Star In ‘Carrie’? When you think socially outcast teenage girl, you think Megan Fox. Oh, you don’t? Yeah, I don’t either. Nobody does, god willing…

However, the rumor is that Fox is lobbying to play Carrie in MGM and Screen Gem’s remake of the Stephen King classic. I like looking at Fox as much as the next guy, especially her boobs area, but that casting would be more horrifying than anything they could put on the screen. Never mind that Fox is 25, far from high school. Fox looks like the type of girl who would tease you into an eating disorder – not a bullying victim. Also, two words: Jennifer’s Body.

Another actress who apparently wants the role? Lindsay Lohan. *Knocks Head Against Wall* (ShowBizSpy)

MGM, Screen Gems Toss ‘Carrie’ Into The Reboot Machine http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/mgm-screen-gems-toss-carrie-into-the-reboot-machine/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/mgm-screen-gems-toss-carrie-into-the-reboot-machine/#comments Fri, 20 May 2011 01:07:00 +0000 Geoffrey Golden http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=212973 Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (the new 'Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark') will write the remake you're gonna ask to prom.

It’s still prom season and that means there’s still time to dump a bucket of blood on your favorite school outcast. Remember to always use pig’s blood, and play it safe, guys.

MGM and Screen Gems are teaming up to reboot Carrie, the horror classic based on Stephen King‘s first published novel. Now that MGM is more financially stable, they’ve been rebooting everything and anything, from Robocop to Child’s Play. You can’t walk down the street without overhearing a conversation like, “when are they gonna make another new version of Carrie, after Carrie 2: The Rage was such a hit?” That’s probably why the studios hired comic book writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who wrote the new, less horrifying version of Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark, to pen the screenplay.

Oh, one more prom safety tip: make sure the outcast you dump pig’s blood on doesn’t have psychic powers. That’ll cause the evening go south real fast. (Hollywood Reporter)

If you bought an expensive plane ticket to go see Attack The Block when it premieres in the UK this Spring, I’ve got some news that is really going to piss you off. Screen Gems has bought the rights to distribute the film in the United States.

Directed by Joe Cornish, the movie focuses on a group of inner city youths who have to defend their home against alien invaders. Screen Gems president Clint Culpepper had this to say, “Steve Bersch screened this film for me and I fell completely in love with it.  The film is, at once, charming, scary, funny, hip, clever and completely hits its mark. I hope this is the beginning of a long relationship with these incredibly talented filmmakers.”

Early buzz is that the film is fantastic and I look forward to seeing it in the theater here when it is eventually released. But don’t feel too bad if you spent all that money on a ticket to Europe. They have really good KFC’s in England. I can’t put my finger on it, but they are better than they are over in the States. (Deadline)

‘Devil May Cry’ Fans May Cry Over Bad Game-To-Movie Adaptation http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/devil-may-cry-fans-may-cry-over-bad-game-to-movie-adaptation/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/devil-may-cry-fans-may-cry-over-bad-game-to-movie-adaptation/#comments Tue, 01 Mar 2011 05:06:53 +0000 Geoffrey Golden http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=30814 Screen Gems is gonna load Capcom's 'Devil May Cry' into the Hollywood Game System and press play, in order to make some serious gold coin.

Everyone is aware of the old adage, “if you adapt a video game into a movie, you will create an unholy abomination.” The highest rated film on Rotten Tomatoes‘ video game adaptation list was Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, which got as high as 44% fresh. Yikes. However, sometimes game movies make quite a bit of cash, like the Resident Evil series has for Screen Gems. So Screen Gems is gonna load Capcom’s Devil May Cry into the Hollywood Game System and press play, in order to make some serious gold coin.

Gonna end the non-specific video game puns right… here. Awesome.

Devil May Cry, which was initially developed as a Resident Evil game, before it was spun-off into its own series, follows demon hunter Dante on a quest to avenge the death of his mother. He could just visit a grief counselor, but that wouldn’t be much of a game, I guess. Unless his grief group consisted of demons. Anyway, the script will be written by Kyle Ward, who penned the upcoming game-adaption Kane & Lynch.

Now if only Capcom could get a live-action Street Fighter movie made that does suck Balrogs, I’d be happy. (ScreenRant)

Something about sex, most likely.

Will Gluck, director of the surprise hit Easy A, has signed on to produce a remake of the quintessential 80s comedy About Last Night. Gluck will attach a writer and director, and produce under his Olive Bridge shingle. This will be Gluck’s fifth collaboration with Screen Gems. He previously helmed the 2008 comedy Fired Up!, last summer’s Easy A, the upcoming Mila Kunis/Justin Timberlake comedy Friends With Benefits, and a still in development vehicle for Emma Stone.

The original About Last Night starred Rob Lowe and Demi Moore, and concerned a couple who begin dating even though their friends disapprove. Sounds like literally every single one of my relationships. I’m not crying I just have something in my eye! (Variety)
