And though we should take the time to appreciate Quantum Leap more often than every four years, we are honoring the beloved science fiction series here today. So, without much further ado, we present Quantum Leap’s best episodes.

“The Color of Truth” – Season One, Episode Six

The show dealt with issues of race many times, but the first season’s “The Color of Truth” was the first time the subject was tackled. Sam leaps into the body of a black man who is the chaffeur to an old, racist widow. His purpose for being there is to save her from dying in an accident. He succeeds but his act of valor also causes the woman (with important political ties) to reassess her views about racial segregation.

“Jimmy” – Season Two, Episode Eight

Jimmy LaMotta is a character beloved by fans of the series. The developmentally-disabled adult appeared again in two season five episodes. However, we’re first introduced to Jimmy when Sam leaps into his body to prove to Michael Madsen that he’s competent enough to keep his job at the docks so that he doesn’t spend the rest of his days in an institution.

While interviewing his Starfleet Command peers, Shatner also recalls his own experiences with playing the role. The actors interviewed are Patrick Stewart, Chris Pine, Kate Mulgrew, Avery Brooks, and, okay, I guess throw Scott Bakula in there too. Here’s hoping the sequel will see Shatner chasing after the sexy ladies of Star Trek. It can’t be hard to find that footage.

Scott Bakula recently told a room full of nerds that a big screen version of "Quantum Leap" is in the works. Series creator Donald P. Bellisario is currently working on the script, which sadly will not star original stars Bakula and Dean Stockwell due to their age. Though, they are expected to appear in some kind of role.

For those too young to remember and too busy to watch Syfy on weekdays between noon and six, "Quantum Leap" tells the story of a brilliant scientist whose consciousness "leaps" into different bodies throughout history, and must help them right a wrong before travelling on to the next, and hoping that his next leap will be the leap home. I’m pretty excited to see this. It may be our only chance of seeing Hugh Jackman singing back-up for Elvis while wearing a sequin gown. Well, in a non-Rob Marshall directed film, I mean. (Blastr)
