If you’re a fan of wacky juxtapositions, you probably enjoy The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, what with its pop-culture reference and its various Roots members. Previously, Fallon had brought us back to teh world of Saved by the Bell on several occassions, but now they’re skewing a year or two younger with some Boy Meets World slam poetry.

Read by Samuel L. Jackson, natch.

Keep it clean when you talk about Topanga, Sam.

We’ve heard rumors for the past few months that Joss Whedon and Marvel were aiming to get Elizabeth Olsen to join The Avengers: Age of Ultron once The Host and Hanna star Seahorse Ramen passed on the role of Scarlet Witch. Talking with The Wall Street Journal, Samuel L. Jackson revealed that, yeah, they’re going to do that.

Says Jackson, “I know we’re shooting in London, that James Spader is Ultron and going to be the bad guy, and that we added Ms. [Elizabeth] Olsen [who will play the Scarlet Witch], but I don’t know what she’s doing, if she’s on the inside or the outside. I haven’t seen a script.”

Jackson did not mention whether or not there were any roles available for Dave Coulier’s siblings.

Agent’s of S.H.I.E.L.D. is continuing to find its footing with last night’s good but not great episode. The highlight of which was Samuel L. Jackson popping by to remind everyone he likes to shout. Though this episode was an improvement upon the pilot, it didn’t really offer much more. The characters are still unlikable and the production value still screams cheap right down to Nick Fury‘s fake-ass goatee. If Marvel can make New York looked like it’s been invaded by aliens through an intergalactic portal, don’t you think they should be able to handle facial hair?

Anyway, fun cameo.

The post 8 Characters Who Were Dumb Enough To Mess With Samuel L. Jackson appeared first on Screen Junkies.

]]>
Next week, the DVD of Sam Jackson’s Meeting Evil hits stores, which gives us at Screen Junkies pause to wonder if it ever really pays to mess with Samuel L. Jackson. I mean, there are probably a couple of guys I fear a little more (Michael Madsen and Danny Trejo come to mind), but that list is short.

Sam Jackson can disassemble your constitution with literally one f-bomb. So it’s best to steer clear of the man and mess with someone you can handle. Like Jason Biggs.

Here are eight characters that learned that lesson the hard way.

The Snakes on a Plane

I don’t know if snakes are aware of who Samuel L. Jackson is, but they should be after seeing how they fare in this campy B-movie nod. Snakes, roaches, lizards, and geckos should all give Mr. Jackson a very wide berth. He is not one to be trifled with. If he doesn’t have a weapon, he will literally curse at you in an angry voice until you die of shame. Of all God’s creatures, only Sam Jackson can do that.

Prince Akeem and Semmi

Sometimes even a broken clock is right.

In Coming to America, these two African transplants draw upon their martial arts training to thwart a disheveled Jackson’s attempted robbery at McDowell’s. In case you were wondering, McDowell’s is the place with the golden arcs. Not arches. Arcs.

When Eddie Murphy’s Akeem sweeps Jackson’s leg (with a mop), Semmi steps up, catches the gun out of the air and lays down the law.

Though it worked out for these two this time, going forward I can’t recommend that anyone mess with Samuel L. This probably won’t be the outcome 95% of the time.

The Guy in the Closet with the Hand Cannon

Just don’t fire guns at Samuel L., okay? That should be a rule. In Pulp Fiction, this poor fella is hiding in the bathroom as Vincent and Jules are wondering if Marcellus Wallace looks like a bitch. And right about the time that Jules divulges that his girlfriend being a vegetarian pretty much makes him a vegetarian too, this guy comes out firing. For some reason, the bullets seem to swerve around the duo. They look around, amazed, before getting a peeved look on their face and lighting the guy up with about ten bullets.

If you fire a gun at SLJ (I don’t expect that name to stick), God will pull some of that divine intervention crap and rain down furious anger, just like Ezekiel said he would.

The Two Rednecks

In case this isn’t totally clear to you right off the bat, the two rednecks in question were the men in A Time to Kill that raped and assaulted his character’s daughter. Completely devastated and shaken, he seeks redress against these men after the justice system fails him. He comes into the courtroom shooting and takes them out, and also a constable in the process.

Fortunately, he’s got a young Matthew McConaughey and Sandra Bullock for lawyers, so he not only avoids the death penalty, but gets acquitted on all charges.

I wouldn’t expect this same result if you hire Magic Mike as your lawyer.

The Police Commander

I thought about just comprising this list of seven people that screw with Sam Jackson’s character in The Negotiator, but that wouldn’t be a very exciting list. I mean, I liked The Negotiator, but I’m aware it wasn’t a very good movie. And recapping it by citing seven people who wronged his negotiating character would probably be overkill. However, the internal affairs snitch played by J.T. Walsh, and the police commander played by often-jerk Ron Rifkin are worth noting.

Most of the people who cross Jackson die, except for Rifkin, who gets clipped in the arm in an effort to prevent him from committing suicide.

Yeah. I just spoiled The Negotiator for you. Cry about it.

The Shark

So the shark from Deep Blue Sea pretty much has his way with Jackson without much direct recourse. I mean, yeah, the shark gets his comeuppance, but that’s not really related to his attacking and eating the shit out of Sam Jackson.

The moral here is that if you’re an African prince or a giant mutant shark, there’s a chance that you can mess with Samuel L. Jackson, but I really don’t think it’s a good idea for the rest of us. So here’s my rule of thumb.

Don’t mess with Samuel L. Jackson. Best case scenario, you get away with it. Worst case scenario, he not only kills you, but precedes dispatching you with a really long, intense monologue that makes you terrified for your last minutes on earth.

Not good times. Don’t mess with Samuel L.

The post Hugh Laurie To Be The Bad Guy In ‘Robocop’ Remake appeared first on Screen Junkies.

Hugh Laurie is most famous to American audiences for playing the lovably cranky medical genius Dr. House on House. But now it looks like he’s going to dial down the lovability and dial up the villainy as “the CEO of Omni Corp” in the upcoming reboot of the Robocop franchise – MGM has entered negotiations with Laurie to get him into the movie.

For those of you who haven’t committed the original Robocop to memory – first of all, what’s wrong with you? But also, the CEO of Omni Corp (the evil corporation of the movie) would appear to be an analogue to Ronny Cox’s character in the original movie. And if the remake goes in a similar direction, you can expect Laurie to be just one of many scoundrels who Robocop gets to blast into oblivion.

Assuming that Laurie and MGM reach an agreement, he’ll be joining a pretty impressive cast that includes Joel Kinnaman as Robocop, Abbie Cornish as Robocop’s wife, Samuel L. Jackson as some kind of media figure (media satire is a big part of the original movie), and Gary Oldman as the scientist who brings Robocop to life. (The AV Club)

So that’s how the super friends all met! We can thank a bald black dude in an eyepatch.

In case you were wondering exactly how the characters from The Avengers were all assembled so as not to look like a superhero version of the Miami Heat, here’s your answer. Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) assembled a team of elite superheroes (Is there any other kind?) to tackle the type of costumed ne’er-do-wells that could only populate a Marvel universe.

While I’m sure the origin story of The Avengers is somewhat carefully crafted, it’s pretty hard to get past seeing Captain America next to Thor next to Iron Man. It looks like a parody of itself, but that probably won’t stop it from being fun.

First, James Lipton is amazing. Any words I’m about to write are not meant to slight the man as he only brings joy. That said, he has a certain talent for asking the fluffiest softball questions of his Inside the Actor’s Studio guests in an effort to fill up the show‘s run time. Normally when you watch, you shake your head, giggle, and continue to watch because it’s somehow really engaging.

But as the supercut of his silliest questions points out, when viewed out of context, he seems like a bitter, insulting master of dry sarcasm. He totally isn’t, but, how sweet it would be if he were. (Vulture)

Samuel L. ]]>
On a per-film basis, I’m sure that Will Smith or Harrison Ford has him beat, but due to the fact that he’s in half the films Hollywood makes, it should comes as little surprise that our favorite bad motherf*cker, Samuel L. Jackson, has made more money from his films than any other actor.

More than $7.4 billion, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. Jackson has acted in over 100 films in his career, including some juggernauts like the Star Wars prequels, Jurassic Park, and, of course, the Hollywood smash Changing Lanes alongside Ben Affleck.

What’s more surprising than his box office take is the fact that Jackson is 63 years old. I hope he gets ornery soon. Could you imagine a more ornery Samuel L.? That would be amazing.

And what’s even more surprising than that is that Tyrese Gibson is tracking to take Jackson’s crown down the line, having grossed $1.7 billion this summer alone with Transformers: The Something Something LaBeouf, and Fast 5. If Gibson can get a cameo in the next Pirates movie, he will OWN Hollywood.

Yay Tyrese Gibson!

Let’s go ahead and emboss a Kangol with the Django Unchained film logo. Samuel L. Jackson-sized, please.

The Pulp Fiction star has signed on to re-team with Quentin Tarantino on Django Unchained. The action focuses on Jamie Foxx playing a freed slave who trains with Christoph Waltz‘s bounty hunter to rescue his wife from the villainous slave owner played by Leonardo DiCaprio. Jackson will play Stephen, “a house slave and the right-hand man of a sadistic slavemaster.” There’s no word yet on what crazy hairstyle he will wear in the film, but given that this is a Tarantino project, expectations are pretty high that it will be hilarious-looking. The post Sam Jackson Can’t Save ‘Arena’ In This Trailer appeared first on Screen Junkies.

This Arena trailer looks like the most nondescript low-budget action film I’ve seen in a while. It’s got cheesy CGI effects, a trite one-word title, and it’s even got a mediocre “star” in Kellan Lutz. However, Arena also has Samuel L. Jackson hamming it up to the stratosphere as some sort of powerful guy that makes guys like Kellan Lutz fight to the death. That’s something we can all get behind.

The plot of arena is that people are captured and forced to kill each other for the enjoyment of the internet and Sam Jackson. I’m sure there’s more plot to be offered, but none more needed. If Kellan Lutz fights and wins nine more times, he gets to go free. But let’s be honest for a second. (Kellan Lutz: If you’re reading, skip to the next paragraph. If you’re illiterate, tell the guy reading this to you to skip to the next paragraph.) Nobody gives a rat’s ass about Lutz. We’re hear to see Samuel L. act like the Joker, Richard Dawson, Nic Cage, and Tyra Banks all rolled into one.

Over the last few years, Jackson has successfully lined his Bad Motherfucker wallet by voicing Afro Samurai in the miniseries of the same name, as well as the animated TV movie, Afro Samurai: Resurrection. Now Jackson is teaming with The Idomina Group and Gonzo Studios for a live-action adaptation of the popular anime. The plan is to attach a writer and director soon and then begin the casting process before heading down to the Dominican Republic to film. Though their names haven’t come up yet, Michael Jai White and the RZA would be wise to make sure that their passports are current. (Coming Soon)
