If Detroit is going to get RoboCop in bronze, why not immortalize these other movie icons?
Though Mayor Dave Bing shot down the suggestion that the city could boost tourism by building a statue honoring the mechanized flatfoot, citizens of Detroit are hoping they can raise the monument themselves.
Detroit has had its fair share of tough times, but this news is especially tough to report. Sadly, the Motor City will not be getting a statue honoring their protector, Robocop.
We don’t always agree on the happenings in the entertainment industry and we like to make our beefs public. There’s no denying that RoboCop is part man and part machine, but it’s unlikely that it’s evenly split. Which part dominates his makeup? Fight!
The cyborg super-cop Robocop defends citizens of Old Detroit with three times as much action when the Robocop Trilogy arrives as a Blu-ray collector’s set October 5. Just in time for the holiday season, this three disc set from MGM Home Entertainment contains the original Robocop on Blu-ray, as well as Robocop 2 and Robocop 3 on Blu-ray for the first time.
Packed full of memorable moments and Robocop quotes, the Robocop Trilogy is a fan must-have. Viewers can experience their favorite “human” robot in all three classic films, now on Blu-ray. I'd buy that for a dollar!
But you can get it for free. I have two copies of the Robocop Trilogy on Blu-Ray to give away. For your chance to win one simply follow Screen Junkies on Twitter and tweet the answer to this question:
What is the name of the machine Dick Jones creates that Robocop goes up against at the end of the first film?
The first two people to tweet the correct answer win. Your move, creep.
The Alamo Drafthouse Rolling Roadshow (sponsored by Levi's) kicks off next week with public viewings of nine classic films around the country. In an interesting twist, the movies will be shown at the locations where they were filmed. The theme of the event is "‘We Are All Workers."
Rooted by one of the nation’s founding principles, We Are All Workers hits the road with nine seminal screenings proving that everybody’s work is equally important.
I'm an internet writer. My mere existence proves that we are not all "workers," and our work is not all "equally important." But considering the Roadshow's website describes The Godfather II, the story of a ruthless crime syndicate, as a "defining immigrant worker story," I probably shouldn't get too hung up on the logic behind the text.
But what the event lacks in well written copy, it more than makes up for with these awesome redesigned film posters by artist Olly Moss. Enjoy. (First Showing)
See the posters after the jump…
I'm sad to report that those of us waiting to see a poignant, arthouse remake of a film about a part robot, part human cop who walks through walls and fights cyber-ninjas are to be left wanting. Darren Aronofsky's long-in-the-works, inexplicable remake of Robocop has officially been scrapped. The collapse of the project was came about for two reasons: MGM's money problems, and Darren Aronofsky's realizing that he is Darren Aronofsky. (Moviehole)
Dexter Morgan is an unstoppable killing machine. And what better way to fight an unstoppable killing machine than with America's favorite insatiable law-and-order cyborg? No, not Vincent D'Onofrio.Peter Weller, the star of the classic 80's sci-fi film Robocop has joined the cast of "Dexter: Season 5." According to Dread Central, he will appear in eight episodes, and will play a "troubled" Miami Metro police officer, as if there's any other kind. While there's no mention of the character of Robocop, I'd be surprised if they didn't use him in some capacity. The show never came right out and said that John Lithgow was supposed to be the character of Dr. Dick Solomon from "3rd Rock from the Sun." But once he dropped the C-Bomb at Thanksgiving dinner, everyone knew it was him.

Studio Mogul-Man has struck again! Due to his evil meddling, the Spiderman-4 and Robocop remake have grinded to a halt like a saw blade headed straight for your crotch. In the case of Spider-Man, Sam Raimi and Sony are butting heads over their villain of choice. Raimi wants The Vulture, and Sony, obviously haters of the evil avian variety, wants a romantic subplot involving Spidey and the Black Cat. In addition to the feline, they'd also like another antagonist, but that will probably turn into another fifteen. Maybe they can all gang rape Spider-Man in a orgy of CGI, 3D, and sticky webbing. As far as Robocop, Darren Aronofsky has left the project after refusing to turn it into an orgy of CGI, 3D, and why not some sticky webbing too. Mary Parent, Chairperson of MGM, is clearly looking to capitalize on the success of Avatar, and Aronofsky isn't interested in made-up worlds that don't exist except in computers. Robocop is awesome because it's gritty and real, not because ED209 is poking you in the eye with his hand-cannon.Spider-man 4 will most likely hit theaters before Robocop, but with Studio Mogul-Man on the loose, who knows what other havoc he could bring to the projects before they reach fruition.(via THR and Moviehole)
