Riggle and Lennon. One will charm the hell out of you while the other screams at you mercilessly.

First the bad news: The guy that was responsible for Paul Blart: Mall Cop, Steve Carr, is set to direct another film.

Now, the really, really good news: That film is called The Boondoggle and will star renowned shouter/actor Rob Riggle and “The State” and “Reno 911!” alum Thomas Lennon.

Frankly, I don’t think the hand of God could have improved Paul Blart, so let’s just chalk that up to “the guy needed to eat” and move on. Also encouraging is the fact that Riggle and Lennon punched up the script. I would be ecstatic about this had Lennon not also had a hand in Herbie: Fully Loaded. As it is, I have downgraded my outlook to “really excited.”

Life is full of gray areas and few absolutes it would seem.

The Boondoggle focuses on two men who go on a business trip in regards to a project that they know will not ultimately work out. I know that sounds hopelessly vague, but I work with what I have. It’s nice to see Lennon get a starring role after so many great supporting efforts. Riggle, on the other hand, will have to tone down his “I’m shouting and it’s funny!” schtick to last 90 minutes on-screen. Unless he spends most of the time shouting at little kids. That could work.
This trailer will be funnier if you're high.

Stoner comedies are experiencing a bit of a resurgence of late, what with the stonerly acclaimed Harold & Kumar movies, Pineapple Express, and Your Highness. And now it looks like indie comedian Matt Walsh is getting in on that sweet hydroponic action with High Road. Get it? “High”?

Anyway, here’s the trailer, which kind of seems like it was put together by someone under the influence of cannabis sativa, in that it’s meandering and sluggish. Hopefully the movie will be a lot better, especially with the cast that it has. Take a look at these names: Lizzy Caplan, Rob Riggle, Ed Helms, Horatio Sanz, and Kyle Gass are just some of the people in this thing. And the movie seems to be largely improvised, so maybe the trailer is a fluke. Third option: That you think the trailer is hilarious and I’m an idiot and/or high right now.

Or rather, cops pretending to be kids. Or rather… something. We’ll see.

Riggle joins 21 Jump Street, what’s sure to be a faithfully dramatic movie version of the old Johnny Depp TV show, where undercover cops pose as teenagers in high school.
You know what 'The Lorax' needs? Romance!

Dr. Seuss’ “The Lorax” is a classic children’s book that teaches kids to be more mindful of the natural world. Taylor Swift, on the other hand, teaches kids about drawing hearts on composition books. Now these two forces will collide, as Taylor Swift lends her voice to the upcoming 3D computer animated Dr. Seuss adaptation The Lorax.

She’s joining a pretty solid cast that includes Danny DeVito as the titular Lorax, Ed Helms as the Once’ler, Zac Efron as “Ted, the young boy who searched for the Lorax,” Rob Riggle as King O’Hare and Betty White as Grammy Norma. Swift herself will be playing Audrey, Ted’s love interest. Man, I wonder what Dr. Seuss would think of the idea of adding a “love interest” to his stories. He’d probably write a really angry rhyming couplet about it.
"Party Down" actor Ken Marino is coming to CBS. Hopefully, it won't be like when "The State" left MTV for CBS. *Shudders*

Ken Marino recently starred in the excellent series “Party Down.” However, I will always most closely associate Marino with his infamous catchphrase from the 90s sketch comedy show “The State”: “I wanna dip my balls in it!” That parody of sketch comedy catchphrases is more infectious and hilarious than most real ones. Does The Target Lady on “SNL” have a catchphrase? If she does, do I care? I know the answer to one of those questions.

So it’s nice to hear that actor/writer Marino will be starring with Rob Riggle “The Daily Show“) on the new CBS sitcom pilot “Home Game.” Hopefully, it won’t be like when “The State” left MTV for CBS. *Shudders*

Riggle plays a recently retired football player who now has to live with that woman he impregnated and their off-spring, after a life on the road. Marino will play Mark’s brother. Perhaps he has a thing for the wife? That would be a comedic conflict for the show’s Conflict Bank.

Even though it’s CBS, with Riggle and Marino involved, it can’t be as bad as “Mike & Molly.” Yup, I will keep telling myself that. (Deadline)

On Who’s The Boss, Tony plays a retired baseball player who becomes a dude-maid. In Taxi, he’s forcibly retired from boxing after too many K.O.’s. Comedian Rob Riggle (The Other Guys, Human Giant) will be Danza’d soon enough.

Riggle will star in the CBS sitcom Home Game, a multicamera comedy about a retired football player, based on the life of former NFL guard Mark Schlereth. The ex-Bronco’s player is a producer on the show, along with Mark Wahlberg, so I’m sure Schlereth will be constantly on set, shouting at the actors, “stop, stop… it didn’t happen like that.”

Riggle was once a Marine, and could probably kill you very quickly if necessary. So the show, which is about a guy who has to leave his family for several years, almost certainly hits home for Riggle… Home Game, that is. Pretty clever, me. (Deadline)
