Rob Reiner Is Leonardo DiCaprio’s Dad

Martin Scorsese’s upcoming film The Wolf of Wall Street is shaping up to have one plum of a cast. And in addition to names like star Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill, and Jean Dujardin, a new name was recently announced: None other than Rob “Stop Calling Me ‘Meathead’” Reiner, who will be playing the part of Leonardo DiCaprio’s dad.

Interesting thing about the current picture we have of the cast: Hill, Dujardin, and Reiner are all known for their work in comedic productions. This is leading some analysts to speculate that perhaps Scorsese has something a bit more lighthearted in mind than the movie’s subject matter might suggest at first – it’s about “a wheeling and dealing New York stockbroker who sees his career and personal life fall into shambles thanks to sex, drugs and alcohol.” Uh, hilarious? Virginia Madsen And Kenan Thompson Joining Rob Reiner’s Latest Masterpiece

Vaunted cinema auteur Rob Reiner has decided on what his next masterpiece to hit theaters will be: Originally titled The Third Act, the film is now Summer at Dog Dave’s, which, let’s face it, is a pretty hilarious title. Anyway, Virginia Madsen and Kenan Thompson are in talks to appear in coveted roles in the movie, which is also set to star Morgan Freeman. Here’s a plot synopsis, sure to be analyzed by cinephiles and historians for years to come:

“Freeman stars as a wheelchair-bound author of Western novels whose alcoholism is making him lose his passion for writing. Madsen will play his new neighbor, a single mother going through a divorce who has three daughters. The family strikes up a relationship with the novelist and helps him rediscover his talent and find his passion for writing again.”

'Born to be Wild 3D' Trailer Features Cute Animals, Morgan Freeman

Madsen is stepping in for Annette Benning, who was originally set to play the female lead. Thompson will be playing Freeman’s “helpful nephew,” which should be good for a few laughs. (Variety)

Old People Alert: Annette Bening and Morgan Freeman To Star In Rob Reiner Movie

You know you’re old when you’re making announcements about your movie at an AARP meeting. Glamorous, that is not. However, that’s what director Rob Reiner did recently about his new movie The Third Act. He announced the leads will be Annette Bening and Morgan Freeman, in a movie I hope will make The Bucket List look like the next Spy Kids installment.

We don’t know much else about the film, and that’s by puppet master Reiner’s design. Here’s a quote from the Reinman himself:

I’m working on a film the title of it now is now called The Third Act. It looks like we’ll have Morgan Freeman and Annette Bening in it together. I don’t want to tell you more about it because we haven’t even started shooting yet. You’re the only person I’ve told. It hasn’t been announced. I’m directing –producing and doing some rewriting from an original script by a fellow named Guy Thomas.

Will it be about old people falling in love? Will my grandma see it? Will she love it? Perhaps. If they’re smart, there’ll be some kind of sucking candy tie-in. One thing’s for sure, if my grandma asks, “will you ‘stand by me‘ at the ticket counter,” I’ll do it, but only if we go to separate theaters and I get to see Prometheus. (/Film)

Wholesome Trailer Alert: Rob Reiner’s ‘Flipped’

Rob Reiner, or Big-Boned Spielberg as he prefers to be called (probably), is back with a quaint coming of age tale. Flipped tells the classic story: boy meets girl, boy discovers porno, boy settles for girl, girl has a weird forehead. It really is an ageless tale. What the hell is this? With a name like Flipped and Reiner attached, I’d assume this is some kind of pancake porn. Where’s my syrup shot?!

Flipped opens in theaters August 6th.
