Hitting theaters before Simon Pegg‘s The World’s End and Seth Rogen’s This Is The End, comes Rapturepalooza. The film stars actors from the Apatow and Edgar Wright camps that didn’t end up in those other films but still wanted to participate in some isn’t-it-weird-the-world-is-ending hijinks. Anna Kendrick and John Francis Daley star as a young couple squaring off against Craig Robinson‘s Anti-Christ. The supporting cast includes Ken Jeong, Thomas Lennon, Tyler Labine, Rob Huebel, Ana Gasteyer, Paul Scheer, and Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World’s Rob Corddry. No more world ending films after these. ‘Kay, guys?

Nothing’s set in stone yet by any means, and sources caution that deal-making is in an early stage and could fail. If that does happen, we’ll get through it. Together. (THR)

Hardly a conventional leading man, Corddry has managed to insert himself in some of the most recent classic comedies in cameo or supporting roles, thus adding to the mystique and legacy that is…Corddry.

(If you say “Corddry” in that last sentence in a whisper, it’s pretty dramatic.)

Old School

Rob Corddry didn’t really get a chance to make his Old School character, Warren, his own, but that didn’t really make the character any less iconic as a middle-aged dude who seems to be disillusioned with the way his life turned out.

As such, the paunchy and bald Corddry makes for a pretty damn funny fraternity pledge under the least humorous circumstances, so when he’s reduced to dropping bricks tied to his weenus and getting kidnapped, the laughs come in spades.

Arrested Development

As Moses Taylor, Corddry played a right-leaning gun-nut actor that Lindsay Bluth develops a crush on. Moses Taylor, a character who plays a TV character named Frank Wrench. While that name is just a characteristically bizarre and hilarious name that the writers of A.D. created, the name “Moses Taylor” is an amalgam of two Charlton Heston roles. Moses from The Ten Commandments, and Taylor from Planet of the Apes.

Of course, Heston was a real-life conservative actor who actually sat as president of the NRA. Charlton Heston never had to deal with a headline that said “Charlton Heston Hunts People.” That problem was unique to Moses Taylor.

Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay

Here, Corddry goes predictably over-the-top, as he does so very well. He plays Ron Fox, a racist agent of the Department of Homeland Security. While going on a tear not only against the titular duo, but most everyone that crosses his path, Corddry plays the part so well that one can comfortably come to the conclusion that he’s totally a racist in real-life.

Community

As funny as he is when he’s playing angry, Corddry is at his finest when he’s playing smug and smarmy, and his role as Alan Connor in Community proved to be the perfect vehicle for such a demeanor. Connor is an old law school buddy of group leader Jeff Wingert, but it turns out this “buddy” is the one who got Wingert disbarred.

Jeff surprisingly doesn’t take too much offense to this revelation, saying that such betrayals are pretty standard in the world of law. Oh, and Alan Connor has a drug addiction, too, which ups the sleaze factor a fair amount.

The Winner

It would normally be remiss to claim that a starring role in a primetime sit-com is “under the radar,” but when the show in question was Fox’s The Winner, I think that characterization works just fine.

The short-lived show watched by few served as a sort of twisted take on The Wonder Years. Rob Corddry played Glen Abbot, a phenomenally successful businessman. Of course, a show about Rob Corddry being really successful doesn’t sound realistic at all, so The Winner consisted of flashbacks to Glen’s 30s when he was still living at home and not all that much of a winner to begin with.

Corddry’s a natural as a hapless lost soul, just sort of limping through life. It’s a shame the show didn’t get picked up, because Corddry proved pretty terrific in the starring role. Oh well. It must be the same reason that Christopher Walken doesn’t star in movies.

To prove that Corddry isn’t all slapstick, absurdist humor, and guys named “Moses,” Corddry has dabbled in drama as well, most notably as White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer in the George W. Bush biopic, W. Rob Corddry doesn’t look too much like the flack, but he’s bald, so I guess that’s close enough for Oliver Stone.

Is it possible that he wanted to make the spokesman a little buffoonish in an effort to exercise a slightly lefty slant on the story. Hmmm. That does sound like something Oliver Stone would do.

Despite being a completely esoteric and goofy, the third season has found the show consistently winning its midnight timeslot, no small feat considering each episode appears to have been made for about seven dollars. This can probably be attributed to the murderers‘ row of talent they got signed on for the modest project, including Ken Marino, Rob Huebel, Rob Corddry, Lake Bell, Malin Akerman, Megan Mullally, and Henry Winkler.

Most recently, Childrens Hospital spun off a fake ad for a TV show entitled NTSF: SD: SUV, which actually garnered enough interest that it has become a real show. No renewal announced on that one yet, but it’s a little earlier into its first season.

Lennon is an alum of “Reno 911,” “The State,” and has had scene stealing performances in I Love You, Man and the recent Cedar Rapids.

Rob Huebel has seemed poised to make the jump from a “that guy” to comedic staple in films such as The Other Guys, I Love You, Man (also), and Little Fockers.

And if you don’t know Rob Corddry by now, I really can’t help you. Ok.  I can help you. He’s had turns in Old School, Hot Tub Time Machine, and”Arrested Development.”

The film revolves around characters played by Anna Kendrick and John Francis Daley, who must defeat the Antichrist (played by”The Office‘s” Craig Robinson). Not that it matters. When you get a cast of comedians this strong together, the less boxed in by plot they are, the better. See also: Wet Hot American Summer. (Variety)

The romance film within a disaster film Seeking a Friend for the End of the World focuses on Steve Carell and Keira Knightley as they await an asteroid to come barreling into the earth. The good-time project doesn’t explicitly state what roles the newcomers will have, only that they will be on board, with Petersen committed and Brody and Corddry in negotiations.

Brody is currently posted up in box offices in Scream 4, while Corddry was last seen in the comedy Cedar Rapids. Petersen, who hasn’t had too high a profile since his departure from “CSI,” will be appearing in Tony Kaye’s drama Detachment, which recently premiered at the Tribeca film festival.

While the plot details are outlined in our earlier preview of the film (available here), it’s still not clear exactly if the film will be as bleak as the premise would lead us to believe. Does Petersen’s weighty involvement cancel out Corddry’s? It’s certainly not going to be along the lines of Old School, but are we dealing with another Seven Pounds here?

In any event, that meteor is coming. The only question left is how these folks are gonna deal with it. (Variety)

One thing Thomas is trying to do to stave off early cancellation: mimic the premise of an already popular show. “Little in Common” is about three different families, and how their lives are intertwined. Sound familiarish?

It centers on the Caucasian, oh-so-proper Wellers (Corddry, Paula Marshall) who move from San Jose, CA to Austin, TX, but find that their adjustment won’t be quite that easy, considering that their Latino neighbors, the Pachecos, have a radically different approach to child-rearing than they do, while their other new neighborhood acquaintances, the African American Burlesons, take sports very seriously.

How very “Modern Family“-y. “It’s like’Modern Family‘ meets sports,” Thomas pitched to Fox. “Middle America will lap this shit up.” If there’s no laugh track, rapid-fire jokes and only one camera, you could probably put monster trucks in there and it’ll still struggle for a second season pickup. (Deadline)

Where in the hell did the movie Operation: Endgame come from? It stars Rob Corddry, Zach Galifianakis, Maggie Q, Adam Scott, Ving Rhames, Ellen Barkin, Bob Odenkirk, Brandon T. Jackson, Jeffrey Tambor, and Odette Yustman. I’d watch that cast wallow in used diapers for 90 minutes. The action-comedy follows two teams of government spies pitted against one another. Of course, most of the men are inept and the women are smokin’ hot ass-kickers, but the jokes play. Unfortunately the film is being dumped to DVD, which I find hard to believe considering it stars the now "it" comedian Galifiankis. Maybe the world just isn’t ready to see him engage in espionage.

Cartoon Network has announced the addition of Rob Corddry’s medical spoof, "Children’s Hospital," to its Adult Swim lineup.

The Webby Award-winning series, which began airing on TheWB.com in 2008, regularly skewers medical melodramas such as "Grey’s Anatomy" and "House." For those of you who don’t know, "The Webby" is a trophy made of my old toilet paper rolls and empty Kleenex boxes that is presented annually to the best original series on the Internet.

Cartoon Network will begin airing the five-minute webisodes back to back until August 22, at which time they will be replaced with 12 made-for-TV episodes, each with a 10-minute run time. This web-to-television transition gives hope to all of us "Internet writers" who aren’t lucky enough to have a funny dad or a friend with a funny dad. Screw you, Patrick. (Variety)

I had the opportunity to travel to Lake Tahoe for the Hot Tub Time Machine junket, and for some reason they put me in a cabin with the film’s stars and a few cameras. I decided to take advantage of the serendipitous moment and ask Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson, Clark Duke, and Crispin Glover some questions about the film. Now mind you, we all attended an 80s party the night prior where free beer and wine was served so you should appreciate how coherent everyone is, and funny on top of that. The cast discusses working naked together in a hot tub, Cusack’s Better Off Dead flashbacks, and the phenomenon that is Teen Wolf Pug.

A new poster for Hot Tub Time Machine goes beyond the red band trailer to reveal the secret of time travel. Scientists are going to kick their own asses in the balls when they see how simple the formula was all along. Using simple algebra, one combines energy drink, vodka, and a squirrel. Add that to four mismatched friends and divide the sum by a hot tub.

Let’s sincerely hope those components do not actually unlock space and time. Ted Nugent probably has a hot tub and more than likely he’s tripping over crunk juice and squirrels. I don’t want to imagine a reality where he has traveled back through time and become our overlord. He’ll hunt us all. (EW)

I’ve heard of a night of wild drinking, but this is ridiculous (Rim shot. Fart.)! The new trailer for Hot Tub Time Machine just materialized and it’s got a bit of a retro vibe to it. First of all, John Cusack must be having the biggest mindf*cking of his life after being dropped back in to Better Off Dead. After that wild winter why would he ever want to go back to the slopes?

Hot Tub stars Cusack, Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson, and Clark Duke as friends who after a night of drinking Red Bulls and vodkas, and supposedly not playing "let’s compare penises" in a whirlpool, travel back to the 80s, where all the people they know in the present are younger, and there are cassette tapes. Holy sh*t! My guess is there will be a ton of jokes based on the fact that things are different in the world now. Fingers crossed there’s one about ungroomed pubic hair. Women’s businesses be nasty back then.
