The Mayans may not have been accurate with their prediction that the world would end in 2012, but maybe we just interpreted that information wrong. Perhaps their prediction was that 2012 would be the end of movies not being about the end of the world. Because there are seriously a shit ton of those nowadays.

Hitting theaters before Simon Pegg‘s The World’s End and Seth Rogen’s This Is The End, comes Rapturepalooza. The film stars actors from the Apatow and Edgar Wright camps that didn’t end up in those other films but still wanted to participate in some isn’t-it-weird-the-world-is-ending hijinks. Anna Kendrick and John Francis Daley star as a young couple squaring off against Craig Robinson‘s Anti-Christ. The supporting cast includes Ken Jeong, Thomas Lennon, Tyler Labine, Rob Huebel, Ana Gasteyer, Paul Scheer, and Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World’s Rob Corddry. No more world ending films after these. ‘Kay, guys?

‘Rapture-palooza’ Gets A Whole Lot Funnier With Huebel, Lennon, And Corddry

It may not have the highest budget, but Rapturepalooza is promising to deliver some bang for its comedic buck with the just-announced additions of Thomas Lennon, Rob Huebel, and Rob Corddry. Basically, they just cherry-picked from the cast of “Children’s Hospital,” which is a pretty sound strategy when it comes to procuring comedic talent.

Lennon is an alum of “Reno 911,” “The State,” and has had scene stealing performances in I Love You, Man and the recent Cedar Rapids.

Rob Huebel has seemed poised to make the jump from a “that guy” to comedic staple in films such as The Other Guys, I Love You, Man (also), and Little Fockers.

And if you don’t know Rob Corddry by now, I really can’t help you. Ok. I can help you. He’s had turns in Old School, Hot Tub Time Machine, and”Arrested Development.”

The film revolves around characters played by Anna Kendrick and John Francis Daley, who must defeat the Antichrist (played by”The Office‘s” Craig Robinson). Not that it matters. When you get a cast of comedians this strong together, the less boxed in by plot they are, the better. See also: Wet Hot American Summer. (Variety)

‘Rapture-Palooza’ In Talks With Anna Kendrick And Some Dude From ‘Bones’

The end of days can be funny, and not in a “I’m high as hell and keep nudging my buddy cause 2012 is so amazingly awful” type of way. Like Kevin Smith‘s Dogma, only…funny.

Rapture-Palooza, after having signed the always-awesome Craig Robinson, is in talks with Anna Kendrick and John Francis Daly to jump aboard as well. Kendrick you probably know from her Oscar-nominated turn in Up in the Air, and John Francis Daly you probably don’t know from “Freaks and Geeks” and “Bones.”

The fact that Rapture-Palooza could score anyone of note, even a “Bones” actor, is pretty amazing given that it will have a production budget of less than $2MM. The film, described as “Zombieland meets The Big Lebowski” is written by Chris Matheson and is helmed by lauded commercial director Paul Middleditch.

Regardless of how the movie turns out, if they aren’t able to get a $2MM return on this guy, the producers should be drawn and quartered in front of Spago. (THR)

Lo, As The Prophecies Foretold, Craig Robinson Is The Antichrist

Just as Nostradamus predicted, the Antichrist is upon us, and he is Craig Robinson (Hot Tub Time Machine was the first omen). Even worse, he’s an executive producer, as well. The movie is called Rapturepalooza, and it’s a comedy from Lionsgate set about a year after a Biblical apocalypse wipes half of the Earth’s population away:

“Ben and Lindsey try to reestablishing their sandwich cart business. Beyond the occasional blood rainstorm and talking locusts that surface occasionally, the sandwich sellers have a new problem: the Anti-Christ (Robinson) decides he wants to take Lindsey as his bride.”

This sounds a little like an indie-comedy version of Little Nicky, the Adam Sandler movie about the devil‘s son that featured Henry Winkler covered in bees. Still not that good though, so hopefully Rapturepalooza will be better.

No info on the rest of the cast yet – maybe some of the Phelps clan want to get into acting? (via Deadline)
