In an interview with Macleans, Stallone describes what he has in store for the film, “I’m dying to do another Rambo. He’s in Arizona on the border. It will involve him going into Mexico. I don’t think Rambo likes Mexicans.” Then asked if he plans to kill the character off, he responded, “Yeah.” Whoa. Of all the bodies to hit the floor, I’d never suspect that it be his.

The likelihood of Rambo 5 happening rests on whether or not The Expendables 2 is a big hit at the box office. Even then, the plot particulars to Rambo 5 could change should fans want to see a ninety-year old fight a terrorist cell someday.

While Sylvester Stallone may have ruled out Rambo V, he certainly hasn’t ruled out another film involving the iconic character. In an interview with Empire, Stallone left the door for a prequel wide open.

"I certainly think this is worth pondering," was his response. "It’s intriguing to find the whys and wherefores of how peope have become what they are. The traumas, the loss and the tragedy of being in Vietnam would certainly be a great challenge for a young actor, and it would be ironic that Rambo directs younger Rambo having played it for twenty years plus…"

I, for one, would love to see Rambo’s backstory developed into a feature-length film. But in order to get people interested, there has to be a twist. For example, what if Rambo’s psychotic tendencies stemmed not from his service in Vietnam, but rather from an ill-fated childhood field-trip to J. Edger Hoovers’ office?

Kids today just can’t get enough of John Rambo. Check the Internet, and you’ll find there are literally millions, if not billions of Rambo related Facebook pages and Twitter accounts. And with Rambo mania (or as I like to call it, "Romania") at an all time high, it’s no surprise that a group of investors is trying to drum up money to make the fifth installment of the franchise. In order to raise awareness for their cause, said investors have been putting up Rambo V posters at various locations around Cannes. The only problem is that Sylvester Stallone says he’s through with the character.

Stallone says the people behind these posters are out there looking for funding, and told him that if he won’t do it, someone else will. He’s adamant that he won’t do it so that means Rambo V, if they find funding, will happen with someone new playing Rambo.

Screw Stallone. Those investors shouldn’t let something like the loss of an iconic lead actor keep them from giving the public what it so desperately wants. Get The Rock on the phone. We want more Rambo! (CinemaBlend)

Back in September, Sylvester Stallone announced that he’d be going toe-to-toe with a were-beast super soldier hybrid in the fifth Rambo film. Fan reaction was not so good. In fact, Stallone wrote this impassioned letter in defense of this departure in creative direction. Well all that doesn’t matter now because Stallone is taking the cheaper way out and hiring Mexican day laborers to play the heavies in the film.

Addressing fans at StalloneZone, the actor said:

"To all the loyal SZoners out there,

I’m letting you know that Rambo has changed course and the story about hunting the man/beast will be done using another character in the lead. RAMBO himself will be heading over the border to a violent city where many young women have vanished.

There will be blood."
