Steve Guttenberg got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame today. While the timing might seem a little odd (though he was somewhat recently on Dancing with the Stars), he was a staple of movie theaters throughout the 1980’s with films in the Police Academy series, Cocoon, and Three Men and a Baby, later to become a Little Lady. His ubiquity during this time puts this award in the “better late than never” category for me.

Many will be shocked to learn that he is the 2,455th person to get their star on the walk of fame. Though many are industry insiders and not bona fide stars, there are some actors that made the cut who are just baffling. In fact, let’s kick off this list of undeserving stars with a guy who really isn’t a star at all.

Ray Romano, Queen Latifah and the whole cast have been unthawed long enough for a quick voice over session.

I know you’ve been worried about whether Ray Romano and Queen Latifah will return for the next Ice Age movie. You can stop refreshing the Screen Junkies home page because… *drum roll*… yes, they will be. Time to take a deep breathe, I have to keep reminding myself.

Fox’s $2 billion dollar grossing Ice Age series is coming out with a fourth installment, Continental Drift, a “high seas” adventure. More returning cast members that have been thawed out include Denis Leary, Josh Peck, Seann William Scott and John Leguizamo.

New warm-blooded additions to the cast include Jeremy Renner, Jennifer Lopez, Wanda Sykes, Keke Palmer, Drake and Aziz Ansari. Though I admit Ansari will probably be a great voice actor, I will not pay $38 to see another Ice Age movie in 3D. I’d rather just watch”Parks and Recreation” with my eyes closed and pretend his character’s a squirrel or something.

Continental Drift lazily drifts into theaters July 13, 2012. (Hollywood Reporter)

Disney has done what every other entity does when it wants attention - call Olivia Wilde.

In part of an ongoing campaign recreating storied Disney characters and scenes with famous Hollywood stars (and Roger Federer, for reasons unknown), Disney has done what every other entity does when it wants attention – call Olivia Wilde.

In the latest installment, Olivia is decked out as the Evil Queen from Snow White, being validated by none other than Alec Baldwin, who probably stares at Olivia Wilde in real life, too.

Less exciting entries in this installment of the campaign include Queen Latifah as Ursula from The Little Mermaid, and Penelope Cruz and Jeff Bridges as Beauty and the Beast, which I feel is really selling Mr. Bridges short in the looks department.

Also in the gallery are earlier photos from the campaign. If you are associated with Disney marketing and can explain Federer’s presence, please shout out in the comments.
Any moron (like myself) who knows how to use IMDB can spot the correlation between Vaughn’s career as a producer and a dramatic drop in the quality of his films.

Honestly, what the hell happened to Vince Vaughn? And no, I’m not making a joke about his weight. If I lived in Chicago and had access to the Italian beef and sausage combo on a daily basis, my ass would look a lot like Queen Latifah’s, so there’s no judgment there. Wha I am making a joke about is his career, which is also starting to look a lot like Queen Latifah’s.

It’s not like Vaughn was the next Peter Sellers, but he did star in some memorable films: Swingers, Old School, and Anchor Man, to name a few. His last decent film, The Wedding Crashers, was a critical and commercial success, bringing in close to $300 million. But it’s been six years since Vaughn’s been in something that didn’t suck less on screen than Chloë Sevigny. His latest film, The Dilemma, is currently tanking at the box office, which is due in no small part to the fact that it’s rocking a 25% favorable rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Critical reception isn’t everything, especially for a comedy. But considering that 25% is more than double what his last film scored, it’s clearly not an isolated incident.

Of his four previous films*, The Break-Up is the highest rated at 34%. Fours Christmases is next with 25%, followed by Fred Claus at 21% and rounded out with Couples Retreat at a whopping 12%. If you combine all four of those scores, the total is still seven points below Toy Story 3. I understand that not every attempt is going to be a hit. Making a film is extremely difficult work, and it’s easy for an asshole hack like myself to sit in my underwear and criticize via the Internet. But the fact that it’s easy for me to criticize doesn’t mean I’m wrong. Vaughn’s last five years of work are an embarrassment by any reasonable standard.

So, what caused Vaughn to pull an Adam Sandler? While there’s no telling for sure, it’s worth noting that Vaughn and his sister Victoria began Wild West Picture Show Productions in 2006, and the company was responsible for the five turds we’ve already discussed. This could just be a coincidence, but all things considered, it would be one hell of a fluke. Maybe the added responsibility of producing has clouded Vaughn’s judgment. Or perhaps he simply gave up all pretense of making a quality product and is now worried only about the bottom line. In either case, any moron (like myself) who knows how to use IMDB can spot the correlation between Vaughn’s career as a producer and a dramatic drop in the quality of his films.

To be clear, Vaughn is not only likable, but talented. That’s what makes the whole situation so frustrating. To see the guy who played Beanie Campbell in Old School sharing the screen with Paul Blart is depressing, and the fact that it’s in a romantic comedy just adds insult to injury. It’s one thing to see a struggling/washed up actor doing crap films to make ends meet. But Vaughn can literally do anything he wants, and he chooses to make Couples Retreat.

There may be hope for Vaughn, as there are rumors of an upcoming project with director David O. Russell. Although to put things into perspective, Ron Howard directed The Dilemma, so even a good director is no guarantee. But whatever happens, it’s high time Vince Vaughn decided to, once again, start making comedies that are actually funny.

Actually, scratch that. It’s high time Vaughn decided to start acting in comedies that are actually funny. He should leave the producing to someone else.

* Note: Into the Wild was not included because Vaughn did not have a starring role.

Even in a sea of horrible moments, I managed to find a few islands of pure awfulness that somehow stood out. I give you the worst moments from The People's Choice Awards.

It’s pretty much common knowledge that the People’s Choice Awards are a joke. Every year, you laugh at the nominees, and then laugh even harder when you read about the winners. But when was the last time you actually sat down and watched the entire ceremony? You probably can’t remember. After all, what kind of asshole would subject themselves to that kind of torture? Well, last night, I was that asshole.

I watched the entire show from start to finish so you didn’t have to, and a more sickening display I cannot recall. I knew it was going to be bad, but I was utterly shocked at just how bad. But even in a sea of horrible moments, I managed to find a few islands of pure awfulness that somehow stood out. I give you the worst moments from The People’s Choice Awards.

Queen Latifah as Host
It’s bad enough to watch a meaningless award show, but it’s a thousand times worse when your host has all the charisma of a drugged-out homeless woman. Listening to Queen Latifah shriek her way through the show was about as fun as watching her shriek her way through a Queen Latifah movie.

Although she was bad throughout, the intro takes the cake. Watching an unenthusiastic crowd forced to wave their right hands in unison while Latifah sang “Dynamite” was like watching some sort of bizarro Nazi rally at Nuremberg, except for the fact that the Nazi’s were better dressers.

Conan O’Brien Wins
Conan winning for Best Talkshow Host was one of the high points of the show. But watching someone with actual talent in a room full of shills was depressing in its own special way.

During his acceptance speech, O’Brien made a crack about the mic stand being too short. “I can’t believe I have to crouch this low.” Neither can I.

Prodding the Audience to Keep Voting
Throughout the show, presenters asked the audience at home to keep voting, as if it could determine the winner. This was insulting on so many different levels. First of all, all of the winners are told ahead of time, so what’s the point? Second, I was watching the show on the West Coast. It had already aired everywhere else. If I sent enough texts, were they going to drive over to Kid Rock’s house and take his award back?

Oh, by the way; Kid Rock won the People’s Voice Award. F*ck me.

Voter Turnout
Early on, the show bragged about receiving over 175 million votes, the highest turnout in its history. That fact is even more impressive, considering that only about 90 million people cast votes in the 2010 election.

Granted, people can vote multiple times for the People’s Choice Awards, but the same can be said for congressional elections, depending on the district.

Adam Sandler/Grown Ups
Adam Sandler took home the award for Best Comedic Actor, while his film, Grown Ups, took home the award for Best Comedy Film. As if to highlight the injustice, Sandler, who was sporting a black eye, told the following “joke” during his acceptance speech.

“I wanted to go see the Black Eyed Peas, and the lady thought I said, ‘Black Eye, Please!’” I’m not even a Sandler hater, but holy sh*t.

No Suspense
As I mentioned earlier, the award winners are notified beforehand, so none of the other nominees want to show up just to lose. I can’t say I blame them. This causes a problem for viewers. Any time you see a celeb, you can be 99% sure they won an award. And whoever was directing this sh*t show had a nasty habit of cutting to a shot or interview of a celeb about ten minutes before their category was announced, which killed what little suspense there might have been.

Elton John Has Gone too Far
I know Elton John is a champion for gay rights, but slowly morphing into a Lesbian woman is taking it too far. Looking like Hillary Clinton isn’t going to win you any friends in the flyover states, Sir Elton.

Viral Video of the Year
And the viral video of the year goes to…”Single Ladies?” WTF? Where is “The Bed Intruder Song?” I’d even settle for “Double Rainbow.”

Movie of the Year: Twilight
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse won for Best Film. Yeah, it’s not surprising, considering kids are probably the only ones who vote for this trash. After all, kids are stupid. But that’s why we don’t let them make decisions.

If your kid rubbed its shit on the wall, you’d clean it up, and tell no one about what happened. On the other hand, the producers of The Peoples Choice Awards would broadcast it for the world to see, and have celebrities pretend to get excited.

Blatant Product Shilling
I have no problem with sponsors on broadcast television. It’s a small price to pay for free entertainment. But Jesus Christ, The People’s Choice Awards would have tattooed an ad for CVS Pharmacy on to Queen Latifah’s tits if the company would have asked.

And Jesus, CVS Pharmacy? I go there to buy toilet paper and condoms. I had no idea it was actually a high-end beauty boutique.
