Today’s Big News: ‘Fast Five’ Number 1 At The Box Office!

Over the weekend, America was buzzing about one thing, and one thing only: The fifth entry in the popular Fast and Furious series Fast Five. And that buzz translated to mad cash, with a very impressive $83.6 million opening, more than twice of what any movie has opened with so far in 2011.

After the impressive number one showing of Fast Five, you have to go all the way down to spots five and six to see any other new releases – Prom with $5 million even and Hoodwinked 2 with $4.1 million. And Rio will apparently continue its reign of terror until it in taken down in a mansion in Pakistan by Navy SEALS. I can’t wait. (Box Office Mojo)

Fresh off the Scream 4 boat, Aimee Teegarden is getting ready for Prom. Teegarden is best known for her role on NBC’s hit drama Friday Night Lights, and for being a model of some kind. She’ll snag a few more feature film credits before the year is up, including roles in Beautiful Wave and Beneath the Darkness.

A word from Aimee: “I want to do a horror film where I either get to kill somebody or be killed. That’s definitely on my top priorities.”

Ah, prom! Remember that magical night? That unforgettable evening where you spent a lot of money on a tux, limo, and corsage all because your platonic female friend’s older boyfriend didn’t want to go with her? No, just me? Well, either way, that’s not the plot of the upcoming Disney film Prom, which revolves around that ever so pivotal (at least in movies) night in the lives of several archetypal teenagers. Good luck to you, awkward kid, pretty girl, outcast, token black couple, and kid planning to lose his virginity! The film stars Aimee Teegarden, Cameron Monaghan, and Nicholas Braun, and it’s in theaters April 29th. It promises to be fun for the whole family!*
