The poster below is the Japanese one-sheet for Super 8, directed by J.J. Abrams and produced by Steven Spielberg. There are a couple of touches that make their version just a bit weirder than ours, like what’s the deal with all the different lights? Are there gonna be multiple alien monsters, piloting different ships? Also, the lights and the placement of the kids kinda looks like a skull, and all that crazy alien writing is just messed up. Oh, that’s Japanese, the language of Japan? Never mind that last one, everybody.

A plot synopsis has also been released. It’s after the poster, in case you don’t want to spoil the “plot” of a movie about seeing people’s arm break in crazy ways. Sylvester Stallone will return (to star, not to direct) along with “most of the original cast,” though no specific announcements have been made. Judging from the plot synopsis, I can tell you one cast member who either won’t appear or will have very limited screen time. *Seals Lips*

Lionsgate‘s Conan The Barbarian stars Jason Momoa, Stephen Lang and Ron Perlman. Directed by Marcus Nispel, it’s coming to you in GrimaceVision 3D on August 19, 2011. Conan‘s violence-filled quest is the last hope for saving the Hyborian world from the forces of evil. Meanwhile, I’d like to take this opportunity to remind you that “Conan The Librarian” exists. I bet that Conan at least got two or three paper cuts. (IGN)

In Fox’s new poster for X-Men: First Class, we see Beast, Mystique, and a bunch of non-blue muties all walking in different directions. Or standing around. Yeah, it’s a little awkward, but nowhere near the train wreck that was the last set of posters, which featured some ridiculous floating-head-on-crotch action. And I do like the tag-line, though I would have considered switching Mystique and Emma Frost. The White Queen has two things I want to see more up close, if you know what I mean, and what I mean are her long boots and cape. I also mean her boobs.

This is the first movie poster I’ve seen that’s perfectly designed for Friday. On Friday, you’re bored at your desk, waiting to leave work, with your tilted head resting on your hand and arm, about to fall asleep. You come across this poster for director J.J. Abrams‘ Super 8, produced by Steven Spielberg, starring Elle Fanning, Kyle Chandler and Ron Eldard. You think, “why are the words oriented wrong?” Then your boss says you can go, you tilt your head back up the right way, and you think, “uh, wait, why is the landscape oriented wrong?” There’s a pause, and then you think, “oh, cool.”

You saw the trailer, now check out this mysterious poster for a film that’s clearly at the intersection of Abram Drive and Spielberg Blvd, near What All The Best 80′s Kids Movies Were Like Municipal Park. Speaking of nostalgia, that glowing water tower – do you suppose Yakko, Wakko and Dot are in there? I think the answer is almost certainly… “yes.”

The “Game of Thrones” marketing team must be a pretty literal bunch. For the latest poster, they decided to do away with all that confusing symbolism and just put up a huge throne. “You want thrones? Here’s your throne!” the creative rep said to the boardroom of HBO execs.

To be fair though, it’s the sickest throne that I’ve seen in weeks. It is made of hundreds, if not thousands of swords, and birds like it so much, they perch upon it. Nine thumbs up for the throne design team. They can expect to see a lot more work in the future after this success.

Since the throne is so cool, I must ask, “Why so sad, Sean Bean?” Oh, that’s right. “Heavy is the head that wears the crown” and all that jazz. I guess they managed to cram some symbolism in there after all. (HitFix)

I was disappointed in the new Thor posters, but these are far worse. Why are the heads of Magneto (Michael Fassbender) and Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) floating on their own crotches? I get what they were going for: “the fresh faced youngsters will morph into these classic silhouettes… with time.” However, I’d prefer they keep their floating heads inside their pants, thanks.

Let’s hope the film’s more in-line with the kickass trailer than these Photoshop nightmares. Seriously, these could be images from someone’s nightmares, and not in a cool way. More of an annoying way.

First we see the UK poster, which is super-crazy. It’s like Jake Gyllenhaal has broken through to Square Town, a dimension where everything is a bunch of squares. Good thing he brought a gun to shoot all those squares, otherwise he wouldn’t stand a chance if they all decided at once to eat him or something.

The second poster was made special for the SXSW premiere of Source Code. It was designed by Olly Moss for Mondo Tees. Moss also made a Moon poster in a similarly retro style. I think this one’s pretty cool. It’s like Gyllenhaal’s become part of a clock, a distinction that puts him in the same club as Felix The Cat. Wow, I’ve just described a pretty fancy club.

So far, Marvel’s Thor has been looking pretty cool, with the emo-brooding European poster and the trailer where Chris Hemsworth‘ Thor teams up with (Natalie) Port-Man. Not digging these new posters, though. They look like someone took perfectly good Thor publicity stills and tried to make a few terrible Calvin Klein ads.

Is Thor such a violent guy that his face should be completely covered in red? Is he Satan? Or is he in hell with Jason? I also find single letters over people’s faces weird. I wanna see their faces, not some stupid letter. Unless I’m looking at a sentient letter, like on “Sesame Street.” In that case, carry on, Mr. W.

Man, that’s some X. Maybe it’s the biggest X in eXistence? When I first saw it, I assumed I was on X, that’s how big it is. Then I made jokes about Xzibit, xXx and eXit Through The Gift Shop, after which everyone on the internet simultaneously nominated me for a Bloggy Award.

Apparently, Team X-Men is still working on the trailer, since “they’ve still got a ton of visual effects shots left to slug into the thing,” according to Harry Knowles. So, until then, you’ll just have to be satisfied with this metallic plaque poster, bub. (AICN via JoBlo)

Releasing one bad-ass poster for True Grit just isn’t enough to appease those Coen Brothers. As the film’s December release draws near, the marketing team is beginning their full press. In addition to the earlier broadsheet, we now have five new posters — four character posters and one group shot. The shots show each character ready to tussle in the name of retribution or have retribution dispensed on them. Collect all five to adorn your moody Western revenge drama themed man cave. They look cool and all, but I’d like to see one for Bear On Horseback. He’s the real star. (via IMDb and Empire)

CHUD was the first to point out that sexy model-actress Diora Baird has announced via Twitter that she has auditioned for a role in the upcoming Thor film. No one is certain which role she read for or if she’ll even get the part but it’s a slow news morning so conjecture like this makes headlines. Honestly. It was between this or pictures of dogs sniffing celebrities.

Television’s ultimate pitchman has passed away. Billy Mays, the charismatic and clamorous infomercial host died in his sleep after sustaining a head injury during a rough plane landing this past weekend. The very likeable Mays is currently co-starring with Anthony Sullivan on the Discovery Channel show Pitchmen. This really is such a shame. It’s always sad to see someone cut down while their star is on the rise. His contributions to the tapestry of television will be sorely missed. (Variety)

The new trailer for Rob Zombie’s Halloween 2 has stalked it’s way online and shows us essentially more of the same. It’s two years later and Michael Myers is once again rampaging through Haddonfield in an attempt to slay his little sister Laurie. If I were related to Michael Myers I’d move to somewhere like France where they don’t celebrate Halloween. Or age of consent laws. (Pajiba)
