From Ric Astley to Steve Winwood, and all points in between.

The seventh season of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” is almost upon us. Get ready for more cruel jokes, personality disorders and pop culture references a-go-go. If you’re anything like us, you’re frequently reminded of some better-left-forgotten piece of popular culture every time you treat yourself to an episode. In tribute to the most narcissistic and evil comedy in the history of television, we present our list of the best things “The Gang” has referenced over the last six years.

Steve Winwood – “The Gang Buys a Boat” (S6|E3)

Dennis Reynolds is a huge fan of Mr. Winwood. He even goes so far to replace the fitness instructor’s music with a copy of Back in the High Life so he can listen to “Higher Love” at the gym (“Sweet Dee Has a Heart Attack” – S4|E10). But our favorite Steve-related moment on “Sunny” is when Mac and Charlie enter a yacht party to the soulful strains of “Back in the High Life Again.” It certainly had us reaching for the champagne of beers and enjoying a bit of the high life ourselves.

Fear – “Dennis Gets Divorced” (S6|E2)

Not many people remember this oft-overlooked Mark Wahlberg gem from the mid-1990s. Still, none of us are surprised that the Gang do. When Dennis gets married to a woman with a dead tooth, things quickly go south. When the King of all Narcissists decides to break things off, needless to say, it doesn’t go over well. I mean, this is “Sunny” we’re talking about. His erstwhile beloved begins beating herself repeatedly on the chest to create evidence of spousal abuse a la Marky Mark. Comic hijinks ensue as Dee and Mac hightail it out of there.

Ric Astley – “Charlie Gets Cancer” (S1|E4)

Dennis doesn’t rick roll around when it comes to the Astman. big fan of this little man with a gigantic voice, Ric makes numerous appearances, almost always in connection with Dennis. Is it any surprise that the narcissistic Dennis listens to hits like “Never Gonna Give You Up” while in the car by himself?
