Pirates Of The Caribbean Quotes
With the fourth installment of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies on the way, now would be a good time to take a look at the best “Pirates of the Caribbean” quotes. The three previous “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies have managed to gross almost three billion dollars worldwide. To say that the franchise, based on a Disney theme park ride, has been wildly successful would be a grand understatement. These movies made a global star out of Johnny Depp with his portrayal of the now-iconic Captain Jack Sparrow.
“Savvy?” Said six times in the original, “savvy” became the catchphrase quote from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. The first time Captain Jack used it was when he and Will took over the HMS Dauntless by themselves. When told that it would take more than two men to even get the ship out of the bay, Jack replied, “Son…I’m Captain Jack Sparrow. Savvy?” Savvy wasn’t in the original script, it was added by Depp as he fleshed out his character and dialog.
“First, your return to shore was not part of our negotiations nor our agreement so I must do nothing. And secondly, you must be a pirate for the pirate's code to apply and you're not. And thirdly, the code is more what you'd call "guidelines" than actual rules. Welcome aboard the Black Pearl, Miss Turner.” Barbossa and the Black Pearl are attacking Port Royal and Elizabeth Turner invokes the right of parley to be taken to the pirate ship to talk to its captain to negotiate for the secession of hostilities. Elizabeth thinks that the medallion she is carrying is one of the pieces of gold that they need to break the curse they are under and tells Barbossa he can have it if they stop attacking Port Royal. He agrees and orders the ship to leave. Elizabeth protests by saying that she has to be returned to town, but Barbossa explains why not with the above quote. Pirate!
“But, why is the rum gone?” This quote comes after Barbossa marooned Jack and Elizabeth on the same island that Jack was marooned on ten years ago after he was overthrown as captain of the Black Pearl. Elizabeth finds out that Jack got off the island because it was a stop for rum-runners. After a night of reveling and dancing and ingesting a lot of rum by Jack, he awakens the next day to find that all the rum is gone and is fueling a signal fire started by Elizabeth. Elizabeth explains exactly why Jack’s beloved rum is gone, but all he has to say in return is to ask again why the rum is gone.
“One: because it is a vile drink that turns even the most respectable men into complete scoundrels. Two: that signal is over a thousand feet high. The entire royal navy is out looking for me; do you think there is even the slightest chance they won’t see it?” This quote is Elizabeth’s reply to Jack’s first asking of why the rum is gone. A stunned Jack then replies with the “But, why is the rum gone?” quote from above. This one’s a great quote delivered perfectly by Keira Knightley.
“I'm dishonest, and a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest. Honestly. It's the honest ones you want to watch out for, because you can never predict when they're going to do something incredibly... stupid.” This quote by Jack was right before the big battle scene in the cave with Barbossa. Barbossa was surprised that Jack was there and that he was a hard man to predict. In typical Captain Jack fashion, the seemingly nonsensical quote make perfect sense.
