In honor of the Jetblue pilot...

Earlier this week, a man pulled an Alec Baldwin and got himself thrown off a Jetblue flight. However, there was a catch: he was the pilot.

The plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Texas when Captain Clayton Osbon was subdued by passengers after behaving in an erratic nature. His co-pilot noticed something was off with the captain’s behavior and locked him out of the cockpit. Upon learning he could not re-enter, the captain began pounding on the door and freaking out everyone else on-board. He is now being detained by the FBI while medical officials investigate his state of mind.

Can you imagine being on that plane? I’d be so scared that I’d take a dump right in my air sickness bag. It’s scary when officials go cray.

United States Air Force Brigadier General Jack D. Ripper – Dr Strangelove

General Jack D. Ripper starts World War III when he loses his marbles in Stanley Kubrick’s Dr. Strangelove. Citing a Communist plot to pollute the “precious bodily fluids” of all Americans, After launching an attack on the Soviet Union, General Ripper refuses to give the code that will reverse his actions. However, the detonation of nuclear explosives on Russian soil with set off a Doomsday Device that will wipe out life on Earth. I’d imagine that would do more than pollute our precious bodily fluids.

Lt. Muldoon – Planet Terror

As leader of a sadistic unit of diseased mutant soldiers, Lt. Muldoon will do anything to delay the mutation of he and his men. Even at the cost of civilian life. In his attempts to procure the experimental gas that will stall his condition, he’s responsible for the gas’s release which turns a small Texas town (and later the entire country) into a race of bloodthirsty zombies. As we all know, those are the worst kind of zombie.

This could be the commercially accessible "edginess" NBC needs to turn things around. Just kidding.

Sarah Silverman and her brand of baby-talk profanity have been recruited by NBC to star in a pilot for next fall. Should the show get picked up, it would most likely be added to a lineup that would include shows from Whitney Cummings and Chelsea Handler.

Readers, say hello to “Sort-Of Attractive and Not-Really-That-Funny Wednesdays.” This fall, on NBC! * xylophone chimes*

One saving grace for the show is that it’s a pet project of Ron Howard, who gave us Arrested Development and, therefore, is a more important American than Abraham Lincoln. The (sort of) logline is (from Deadline):

“Loosely based on Silverman’s life, the untitled single-camera comedy stars the comedian as a woman readjusting to the single life after a decade-long live-in relationship. Silverman wrote the script with Dan Sterling and Jon Schroeder, who were writer-producers on her self-titled Comedy Central series.”

Well, I wasn’t the hugest fan of her CC show, but I fear that when here profane charm is ground down by the network so as not to offend anyone, the results will be less than stellar.

Still, it’s gotta be better than Mike and Mindy or whatever the hell that other show is called.

NBC is going to dig itself out of its fourth place hole by canceling beloved-but-low-rated shows like Community and rolling out familiar, derivative remakes that no one asked for, like The Munsters. The network just ordered a pilot episode, adhering strictly to the adage that no one went broke underestimatin the American public.

Fear Factor’s return is another example of this logic.

No details have been given about the return of the campy 1960′s sitcom, other than it will envisioned as an hour-long drama. Oh, so it will be like American Horror Story or True Blood. Hmmm. Maybe people will just keep watching the originals and not the neutered spinoffs. At least, that was the fate that Playboy Club met.

Whatever. This is horrible idea that no one is excited about. Here are my casting thoughts:

Hermann – Joel McHale

Grandpa – Alan Alda

Lilly – Evangeline Lily

Eddie – Zac Efron‘s developmentally disabled brother, Uggo.

As the television season comes to a close, and we prepare ourselves for a summer full of crappy cast-away shows and reality TV, the networks are hard at work deciding which new pilots to green light to series for the fall. And while it’s never fair to judge a book by its cover, that won’t stop us from judging pilots by their titles and log lines.

We’ve compiled 10 current pilots being considered at the five major networks: ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, and CW. Can you match all 10 titles to their corresponding log line (that means “description,” for those of you who aren’t in the biz)? Check out the quiz below and see if you have what it takes.

The pilot, "Black Jack," concerns a retired special ops agent, and has nothing whatsoever to do with Jack Black.

Although his last two directorial efforts, Pineapple Express and the upcoming Your Highness are both largely stoner movies, David Gordon Green‘s new project seems to be a different kind of high concept. “Black Jack,” which is being heavily considered for a pilot pickup, is a half hour comedy that concerns a special ops agent. It ain’t “Archer,” but it sounds promising:

Black Jack, written by Michael Starrbury, centers on Black Jack who, after 20 years as the mos kick-ass special ops agent the US government has had on its payroll, finally goes too far and is de-commissioned. He’s sent home to begin the most treacherous mission he’s ever faced — normal life.

Sounds interesting enough, although the pilot order seems contingent on finding the right actor to play the lead. It might be a little on the nose, but I think Liam Neeson would absolutely murder that role, along with anyone else that crossed him. (Deadline)

Philip Seymour Hoffman and HBO are joining forces for a drama about a man, his family and his small town. Emotional hijinx ensue.

Phillip Seymour Hoffman and HBO are teaming up again. In 2005, the actor appeared in the Emmy nominated movie, Empire Falls, and just last year his production shingle Cooper’s Town set up a drama project with the network, based on Samantha Peale’s novel”The American Painter Emma Dial.” Now, he’s teaming up with frequent collaborator Bob Glaudini (Jack Goes Boating) and”Hung” writer Brett C. Leonard on “Upstate,” a new drama about a recently fired man who moves his family to a rural town to be an officer at a new for profit private prison. Roy eventually encounters “conflict and danger inside and outside the prison walls.”

Uh oh, could small town life be less innocent than it seems? Could there be a darkness lurking in the shadows of suburbia? Someone alert Alan Ball! Sound the Arcade Fire Alarm! Get me The Chumscrubber! And of course, my real opinion is, Hoffman’s a smart man with interesting taste who makes strong choices. This sounds very promising. (Deadline)

A lasso that works like a lie detector? A plane that’s invisible, but doesn’t make the pilot invisible? There’s a lot of lame elements to Wonder Woman, and if anyone knows about lame superhero shows, it’s NBC. “Heroes” eventually became the worst show on television, and I haven’t seen “The Cape,” but it’s called “The Cape,” and that’s a really generic dumb-dumb name.

So it’s no surprise that NBC ultimately decided to greenlight producer David E. Kelley‘s new “Wonder Woman” show after all. However, this isn’t another campy, Lynda-Carter-sure-had-awesome-cleavage version. We’re told the show takes itself seriously, but I’m not sure how seriously I can take any superhero with bullet-deflecting bracelets. Don’t know if you’ve heard, but Superman can deflect bullets with his skin. Wonder Woman does it by accessorizing. I guess chicks need terrible superhero shows too.
