That women love bad boys will come as no surprise to anyone. As it happens, the big screen has no shortage of them. For the guy who finds himself always being friendzoned, the following cinematic creeps will provide some inspiration for making the move from nice guy to completely frightening chick magnet. We’re not saying this is what all women are into, but between these eight, you’ve got a better than average shot at hitting a home run.

Bobby Peru (Wild At Heart)

Willem DaFoe is one of those guys whose pretty much creepy no matter who he’s playing. In David Lynch’s Wild At Heart, however, he really knocks it out of the park. We’re not sure if it’s the moustache, the teeth, the scene where he gropes on Laura Dern’s tits and then gets bored, or what. Probably a combination of all of the above. Whatever you do, though, don’t try and hold up a feed shop to impress a girl. It probably won’t work and you’ll just get your head blown off.

Pee Wee Herman (Pee Wee’s Big Adventure)

He’s a grown-ass man who acts like a 6-year old. This, plus the crucial bike, kind of make him a hero of ours The thing about Pee Wee is that he’s totally oblivious to the fact that there’s anything weird about him. That, plus all his amazing gadgetry, are what chicks dig about him. This is what we call the playful creepy. You can pretty much picture Pee Wee jumping out of a cake for a girl’s birthday, then running around the room doing some weird dance. If you ever meet a girl who’s into “bike culture,” bone up on Pee Wee and his big adventure.

We knew Judd Apatow was an emperor of comedy productions, but I for one didn’t know he was a humanitarian. I got this press release that the Venice Family Clinic was honoring Apatow with a Humanitarian Award at their Silver Circle Gala on Feb. 28, so it sounded like a good cause and a chance to catch up with Apatow.

The small red carpet, only five reporters after the photo pit, offered a chance to get intimate with Apatow. The charity story revealed some of his humble beginnings in comedy. Then it was onto the big news of the new Pee-Wee Herman movie he’s producing, the Knocked Up spinoff he’s writing and directing, and the Oscars which were still fresh news the next day.

Q: We’re not aware of your involvement with Venice Family Clinics so could you tell us what you do with them?

JA: Well, I’ve known about Venice Family Clinics for a long time. The first job I ever had, I worked for Comic Relief when I was 17 years old. I worked there for about five years raising money for the homeless. That was my first job in show business. There was a great man there named Dennis Albaugh who sadly is no longer with us, but he was in charge of how they gave out the money that Comic Relief earned. He taught me about giving and charity and said, “You have to be a good person and take care of your community.” Every year he gave me a list of charities he thought I should support. Venice Family Clinic was one of the first charities he encouraged me to get behind. I’ve been doing it for a long time.

Q: One of the film projects we’re really excited you’re involved with is the new Pee-Wee Herman movie. What will be classic Pee-Wee and what is new about it?

JA: It’s a little early in the process to know. He only made two movies so there’s a lot of open ground for Pee-Wee. It is many years later so there are different stories to tell.

Q: Does it pick up with everything Pee-Wee on Paul Reubens has been through in the last 25 years?

JA: No, it exists in its own world but it’s very imaginative. I think that’s one of the best characters of all time for me. It’s like W.C. Fields.

Q: Does it fall in continuity with he’s had a Big Adventure and has been in the circus?

JA: I don’t know. We haven’t talked about that. It’s more like “The Simpsons” where in every episode he grew up in a different decade.

Q: With the spin-off to Knocked Up, why are the Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann characters the right characters for that story, as opposed to starting over with new ones?

JA: People were reall taken by those characters. I think people really emotionally connected to the challenges of their marriage and I thought, you know, they were only a small portion of the movie. I’m a television writer so I always want another episode. I always want another 80 episodes. That’s why after Forgetting Sarah Marshall, we said, “What else can we do with this character Russell Brand has created here?” I felt that way about Pete and Debbie from Knocked Up.

Q: Would you want to include the other main characters from Knocked Up and make them cameos?

JA: I’m trying to figure out how to do that. A lot of it just depends on people’s availabilities and the story I’m trying to tell, who fits into that story. There definitely will be other people from Knocked Up in the movie.

Q: Would you be open to reaching out to Katherine Heigl?

JA: Well, I’m not writing it to be a story about Seth and Katherine’s characters. It’s really about where Pete and Debbie are five years later.

Q: But even as a “no hard feelings” cameo?

JA: Uh, I don’t know. It’s too early to know.

Q: What did you think of James Franco last night?

JA: I thought he did a really good job. He’s really a charming guy and they don’t give the hosts that much to do because the show is so long. They seem to be obsessed with keeping it to three hours. When I was a kid it would go 4:15 and I miss it because when you tighten it up, you lose a lot of the spontaneity of the show. It was nice when Johnny Carson could really talk when he came on stage and I really miss the lifetime achievement awards. I think it’s a crime that they don’t put that on the main show. I’m much more interested in seeing Francis Ford Coppola speak than many of the awards. So I would add another hour.

Q: It seemed like they even cut some of the host’s humor and downplayed that.

JA: No, I think as soon as the show starts, they’re already cutting things out to try to end it before the local news. That’s no fun. You have to let people blabber on a little bit. That’s what we want.

We haven’t seen too much of him since he beat the crap out of Anderson Cooper, but that’s because he’s been preparing. Biding his time so that he can beat the crap out of all of us with nostalgia-based comedy. And you won’t have to wait in the long TKTS line to see it. Pee-Wee Herman is bringing his Broadway show to the world via HBO. Could the crazy-ass movies he’s been planning over the last fifteen years be far behind?

The channel has put together this teaser trailer of Pee-Wee getting ready for his big night. You’ll be able to see the hyper-asexual 52 year-old talk to chairs when “The Pee-Wee Herman Show” premieres on HBO on Saturday, March 19th at 10pm. (via /Film)

If you’re like me, the combination of the words “Gwyneth Paltrow,” “hosting,” and”Saturday Night Live” caused you to unplug your television until Sunday morning. Which means you missed this fun Digital Short starring Andy Samberg and Pee-wee Herman.

In the short, Samberg coaxes Herman off the milk-only wagon and learns that the beloved children’s entertainer has a bit of a problem. No, not that one. A drinking problem this time. Further proof that tequila changes a man. One minute your making ice cream soup with a room full of puppets, the next you’re assaulting police officers and respected news anchors. Totally reckless. Some drinking buddies are just bad for one another.

Nostalgia Overload: Apatow May Direct Pee Wee http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/nostalgic-assholes-rejoice-apatow-may-direct-pee-wee/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/nostalgic-assholes-rejoice-apatow-may-direct-pee-wee/#comments Tue, 11 Jan 2011 00:46:52 +0000 Penn Collins http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=15149 According to no less than Pee-Wee himself, Judd Apatow is considering directing his production of Pee-Wee's untitled next movie.

According to no less than Pee-Wee himself,  Judd Apatow is considering directing his production of Pee-Wee’s untitled next movie Paul Ruebens said to the Television Critics Association (to us via The Playlist), that, “Judd has not decided, I guess he’s waiting to read the script, which is not completed yet.” The fact that Apatow is not involved in the script is probably a pretty good sign that his involvement will be limited to that of producer, as this is a guy who has the clear ability and preference to direct his own script. The fact of the matter is that in today’s Hollywood, Apatow is attached to everything until he explicitly says he isn’t.

Beyond Apatow’s leanings, it doesn’t sound like he would be the best man for the job, anyway. Apatow has shown to be a comedic goldmine in a lot of different areas, but “whimsy” hasn’t been one of them. His biggest asset in this venture might be the endless parade of A-list talent he could get to parade through the film in cameos. That said, if Seth Rogen reprises the role of Francis, I’m going to chew off my own arm and throw it at the movie screen. It’s nothing personal, Judd, just make sure that Pee-Wee is able to do his own thing and keep the Mr. T cereal on hand. He just burns through that stuff.
