“Good news, son. Your father is one of the top three writers in America. Also, he wears a tinfoil cape.”

Pretty solid setup for a drama, and with it in the able hands of About A Boy’s Paul Weitz, we can expect good things. It’s just nice to see De Niro in a film where he isn’t milking cats or having a needle stuck into his penis. Or maybe he is. Who knows? Being homeless is hard.

MGM certainly agrees, recruiting Solitary Man writing/directing team Brian Koppelman and David Levien to work their magic on the source material, rewriting the project that had been kicking around in Hollywood hell with both Chris Weitz and Rawson Marshall Thurber attached to direct at different times. Chris Weitz and his brothe Paul will be sticking around in producer capacities.

The talent behind this production coupled with the absurdity of the source material makes this a promising project.

Also joining up, (and don’t fall in love here, fellas) is Dale Dickey. You’ll recognize the actress from a wide variety of work including The Winter’s Bone, for which her portrayal of a meth-head won her an Indie Spirt award. Other places you may know her from are “My Name Is Earl” where she played a prostitute, and”Breaking Bad” where she played a… err, another meth-head. Oh, according to her IMDb page she’s done comedy. Here she is listed in a “Funny Or Die” sketch where she played the character of ‘Prostitute’. Goddamn. This poor woman. Her role in Bullshit Night isn’t specified, but let’s go ahead and assume her character’s name is Suck City. (The Playlist)

The book is supposed to be terrific, so let’s hope that even though the film version is chock full of De Niro, Dano, homeless people, and of course, Boston, it doesn’t come out reeking of Oscar bait. (Deadline)

Filming on the low-budget movie is expected to start in March, though no confirmation has been made. Casey Affleck was long attached to this project in Dano‘s role. No explanation has been given for the switch. Focus Features has picked up the film after Fox 2000′s interest waned with the departure of Affleck.

While little else has been divulged about the project, the book is set in Boston and New England, and Dano appears to be on the young side for the lead. Though the story takes place over years, it would seem that Flynn is more Affleck’s age than Dano’s for much of the story.

Weitz chasing down this project ought to do wonders to clean his soiled credibility after Little Fu-, excuse me, Little Fockers. Another Bullshit Night in Suck City has a blend of humor and heartbreak that Weitz demonstrated well in About a Boy and not at all in American Dreamz. Weitz seems like the right guy here, and the cast appears aces thus far. Don’t tell Ben Stiller about this. He’ll probably want to play an evil hot dog vendor or something.(The Playlist)

In Admission, Fey would play an Princeton admissions officer who falls in love with a prospective student that may not end up being Princeton material. Fey seems a natural fit for this role. Based on the limited information available, it sounds like this character could be in the same wheelhouse as Fey’s Liz Lemon from”30 Rock.” Let’s face it, this role will probably just call for Fey to play a caricature of herself, which has worked out just fine for her in films like Date Night and Baby Mama. However, with Weitz’s fingerprints on this, don’t be surprised if the picture ventures away from the trite, as he has done in earlier work such as About a Boy and In Good Company.

This does leave the question of who will play the student in this arrangement. Considering Fey can squeeze comic blood from a stone, the field is wide open. Let’s have the cast of Twilight participate in a deathmatch for the part.

Daaaaamn, De Niro. You look gooooooood. In these new Little Fockers character one-sheets, all signs of aging have been Photoshopped away from the stars’ faces. Notice how Robert De Niro doesn’t have any lines on his forehead. Even newborns have those. The guy is 67-years-old. Leave some lines on there so he doesn’t look like a cyborg! I’m surprised they didn’t airbrush his mole off while they were at it. It’s a huge deterrent for audiences. Why would anyone want to see a movie full of actors with imperfections? I’ll stay home and watch "Gossip Girl," thank you very much.

Universal Pictures has dropped a new international trailer for Little Fockers. The boner stabbings from the U.S. trailer have been replaced with references to The Godfather and Jaws, and of course, vomiting. So this movie has Viagra jokes, puke jokes, overused film references jokes, bleeding all over people jokes, and Jessica Alba. One out of five ain’t bad. Still no sign of Dustin Hoffman shoe-horned in to up the zany antics. Maybe after viewing this trailer he’ll agree to a pity cameo.

I chose the most suggestive picture I could snap for Universal’s Little Fockers trailer, and it doesn’t even get across the actual horror that unfolds in the scene. The Paul Weitz-directed threequel to the Meet the Parents blockbuster stars Ben Stiller, Robert De Niro, Teri Polo, Owen Wilson, Blythe Danner, Jessica Alba, Laura Dern, Harvey Keitel, Barbra Streisand, and Dustin Hoffman. You can practically smell the money wafting off the screen. There’s even a turkey carving joke involving someone’s thumb. I won’t tell you who, but he plays the neurotic klutz in all of these films. And most of the other films he does.

Little Fockers starts raking it in at the holiday box office December 22, 2010.
