Great news for lovers of film. The Resident Evil film canon has grown with the announcement that Resident Evil: Retaliation is moving forward. Believe it or not, Milla Jovovich will return with Paul W.S. Anderson will once again direct from his own screenplay. Actress Sienna Guillory, however, will not slip on a tube top for the role of Jill Valentine this time around. Reports are that role will be recast. No word on what effect this will have on the tube top.

I feel like these movies will continue to be made until they run out of cool words to tack onto the title. When that happens, it’s time to reboot. (Bloody Disgusting)

Did you know that the Three Musketeers often dabbled in air-to-air combat? Alexander Dumas didn’t know that, but director Paul W. S. Anderson did, so it’s only natural that he would introduce Victorian airship dogfights into his adaptation of the literary classic.

Beyond that, we’re looking at an evil empire, somehow more that three musketeers, and the world’s most dangerous assassin, who happens to be a lady. That’s no typo…a lady assassin. Crazy!

Points for the film for casting Orlando Bloom, Milla Jovavich, and Christoph Waltz. Points against the film for having zero songs that feature the soothing voices of Sting, Bryan Adams, and Rod Stewart. We’ll say that’s a push.

‘Pompeii’ Is The Newest Paul W. S. Anderson Disaster

It’s cool when things in movies blow up, but what about when nature blows up? That’s called a volcano, and it’s pretty awesome, dudes. So doing a movie about, like, the most famous volcano in the history of everything would be totally kickass. Enter Paul W. S. Anderson.

The director of When Alien Met Predator has set his sights on Pompeii, a film about a real-life Ancient Roman city which was the victim of an exploding Mt. Vesuvius. Expect the film to be accurate historically, just like he stayed true to the Resident Evil source material. Here’s a description of the plot:

Set in late summer 79 A.D., Pompeii revolves around the slave of a shipping tycoon who dreams of the day he can buy his freedom and marry his master’s daughter. What the slave doesn’t know is that she’s already been promised to a corrupt Roman senator, while he’s been sold to another owner. Just when things can’t get any worse, Mt. Vesuvius erupts with the power of 40 nuclear bombs. But the slave is trapped on a ship headed for Naples, separated from his love and best friend, a gladiator who is trapped in the city’s coliseum. As fire and ash destroy the only world he’s ever known, the slave is determined to get back and rescue them.

So it’s like Cloverfield in Ancient Rome, with a volcano instead of a Cloverfield monster, and a slave instead of a dumb 20-something. Alright, I guess that works. The big questions for an Anderson film are whether or not it will look cool – which potentially it could, because lava is awesome – and whether the story and dialogue will be so frustrating it distracts you from the visuals. I guess we’ll see how big a disaster this will turn out to be.

Constantin Films is producing, Summit Entertainment is distributing in the US. Lee Batchler and Janet Scott Batchler wrote the screenplay. (Hollywood Reporter)

‘Three Musketeers’ Trailer Replaces Sheen With Explosions

Summit has released the trailer for Paul W.S. Anderson’s new explosion-y take on Th Three Musketeers, which is in 3D, of course. It stars Logan Lerman as D’Artagnan, and Matthew MacFadyen, Luke Evans and Ray Stevenson as the other three less diva-ish sword wielders. Couldn’t they just have remade this thing with Keifer Sutherland, Charlie Sheen, and Chris O’Donnell, the cast of the 1993 version? Those guys could use the work. Plus Sheen needs to get his “Winning” phrase in a movie before it goes completely stale. Oh wait, too late on that already?

Orlando Bloom Seems Super Drunk

America, nay, Planet Earth, I hope you’re ready to get lost in Orlando Bloom‘s eyes all over again.

“Entertainment Tonight” stopped by the set of that Paul W.S. Anderson version The Three Musketeers that I can’t imagine anybody will want to go see (which, of course, means it will be the hugest hit and everyone except me will start wearing those queer floppy hats with the big feathers sticking out) to listen to Orlando Bloom act really, really high.

Not to compliment his acting, but I can’t tell if he’s faking it or not. He’s either doing an imitation of Captain Jack Sparrow or turning into Joaquin Phoenix. Or did he have a stroke? Whichever is the case, it’s pretty sad. The Orlando Bloom Beard Watch begins…… now.

Paul W.S. Anderson‘s The Three Musketeers is coming, and there are two brand new photos to prove it! The film, which stars Logan Lerman, Christoph Waltz, Matthew Macfadyen, Ray Stevenson, Luke Evans, Milla Jovovich, Mads Mikkelsen, James Corden and Orlando Bloom, will be out on October 14th and will be in (of course) 3D!

In Summit Pictures re-imagining of the classic novel, D’Artagnan joins forces with his fellow Musketeers to stop an overthrow of the French throne and ultimately, a European war. Now check out this sweet ‘sketeer action!! (Coming Soon)

Orlando Bloom Dons Floppy Hat For ‘Three Musketeers’

Orlando Bloom won’t be shaving that weird facial hair anytime soon. The Elizabethtown actor has been cast as the Duke of Buckingham in Paul W.S. Anderson’s Th Three Musketeers. British comedian James Corden will also join the cast as the servant Planchet.

Previously cast are Christoph Waltz, Logan Lerman, Matthew MacFadyen, Ray Stevenson, Luke Evans, Mads Mikkelsen, and, of course, Anderson’s wife/zombie slayer Milla Jovovich. Considering Anderson’s film resume of mostly videogame adaptations, I’m really impressed by these casting announcements. It looks like this 3D take on the classic is picking up a lot of talented actors. And Milla Jovovich. (Variety)
