<description><![CDATA[There will never be a 'Freaks &#038; Geeks' movie. So stop asking, guy who played Alan.]]></description>
<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Much like that cat from <em>Pet Sematary</em>, <em>Arrested Development&#8217;s</em> return from the grave seemed like a good thing at first but has eventually brought with it destruction. The destruction of hope. When the cult favorite series was resurrected, comedy nerds called to see more of their departed favorites via Twitter, the Internet&#8217;s <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/ouija-940/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Ouija</a> board.</p>
<p>Their calls to the other side have been heard. And rejected.</p>
<p><a href="http://insidetv.ew.com/2012/09/28/freaks-and-geeks-judd-apatow-paul-feig/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">EW</a> asked co-creator <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/judd-apatow-390/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Judd Apatow</a> about the likelihood of a movie, but it seems that he doesn&#8217;t want to go there.</p>
<p>&#8220;I love the question mark at the end of the series, so I never want to know more than that. It is the reason why you don’t want to find out what happened, like when they got off the bus in <em>The Graduate</em>.&#8221;</p>
<p><a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/paul-feig-913/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Paul Feig</a> also crushes us, adding additional pressure onto the creators of <em>Party Down</em>.  &#8221;I mean it could be great, but if it’s anything less than great, then it just waters down the memory of the rest of the show. For some reason that becomes the last thing you’ve done, and I always feel like if you don’t get it right it erases the memory of what came before it. But I don’t know. If we came up with a great idea, who knows?&#8221;</p>
<p>So, there is hope?! Thank God those kids haven&#8217;t grown out of their awkward phases yet!</p>

<description><![CDATA[His talent for filming women embarrassing themselves is really paying off.]]></description>
<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><div id='post_in_album' class='post_in_album'><a class='img' href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/gallery/rose-byrne/' title='Rose Byrne'><img src='http://cdn2.screenjunkies.com/wp-content/uploads/gallery/rose-byrne/emmy-nom-rose-byrne.jpg'/></a><h3><span class='num'>7 photos</span><a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/gallery/rose-byrne/'>Rose Byrne</a></h3></div><a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/opposites-paul-feig-and-jon-hamm-team-up-for-comedy/" target="_blank">Paul Feig</a>&#8216;s adeptness at putting women in embarrassing situations has landed him the chance to direct the third <em>Bridget Jones&#8217;s Diary</em> film. The <em>Bridesmaid</em>&#8216;s director is said to be in talks to helm the sequel to the classic romantic comedy. <em>Bridget Jones</em> creator, Helen Fielding, has written a script that would follow <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/renee-zellweger-454/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Renee Zellweger</a>&#8216;s titular character on her attempts to have a baby.</p>
<p>But nothing is a done deal just yet as it may be tricky to get the film&#8217;s stars to return. Renee Zellweger most likely would because she did <a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/renee-zellweger-puts-up-with-a-lot-of-crap-in-case-39-trailer/" target="_blank"><em>Case 39</em></a>, so how&#8217;s she going to argue? <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/colin-firth-876/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Colin Firth</a> has an Oscar now which means his dry charm has become a lot more expensive. And <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/hugh-grant/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Hugh Grant</a> is keeping busy doing&#8230; I don&#8217;t know, Hugh Grant stuff. So let&#8217;s just go ahead and put <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/jon-hamm-941/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Jon Hamm</a> in their place in a dual role. (<a href="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2012464/Bond-23-Naomie-Harriss-licence-thrill.html" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Daily Mail</a>)</p>

		<description><![CDATA[But he's being mysterious.]]></description>
<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><em>Bridesmaids</em> was a film that kept us laughing from beginning to end and the two unexpected highlights of the film weren&#8217;t <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/kristen-wiig-45/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Kristen Wiig</a> making wacky noises or Kristen Wiig making a lazy eye face. Instead, they were <a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/video/melissa-mccarthy-reveals-that-she-was-channeling-guy-fieri-in-bridesmaids/" target="_blank">Melissa McCarthy</a> and <a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/video/jon-hamm-is-smooth-in-bridesmaids-international-trailer/" target="_blank">Jon Hamm</a>. This morning there was news that director <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/films/paul' target='_blank'>Paul</a> Feig wanted to call upon his all-stars again for another project. <a href="http://www.moviehole.net/201142195-exclusive-feig-on-the-hammmccarthy-movie-rumour" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Moviehole</a> caught up with Feig, who was surprised to hear that the news had broken.</p>
<blockquote><p>“It was one of those things where I was like ‘Oh, that wasn’t supposed to come out’ but I’m kinda glad it did; I’ve been secretive about it the past few months but I guess I’ve dropped enough hints too. It’s a real passion project; again, I just want to tell stories that don’t normally get told and this is another of those.”</p>
<p>“They’re the <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/inspiration/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>inspiration</a> for it”, Feig says of Hamm and McCarthy, adding that the film would be a “very unconventional <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/love-story/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>love story</a>, in the vein of <em>[Bridesmaids</em>]. Judd and I have a very specific storytelling style – it’s very real and out of the reality we’ll try to make it as funny as possible. I’m excited about that.”</p>
<p>How long away is this prospective Hamm/McCarthy movie? “I’m just writing it at the moment”, the filmmaker says, “There’s actually something in the Fall that…is a sequel to a movie that people know but I can’t really talk about it yet; we’re still trying to finalize it. That would be fun. It’s something I’ve wanted to with some actors I’ve wanted to work with.”</p>
<p>“This would be a reboot of a franchise. I want to talk about it but it might not happen because of actors deals and so on so I better remain mysterious.”</p></blockquote>
<p>Ummmm&#8230;. my guess is <em>Ghostbusters</em>. Or something else entirely. Yeah, let&#8217;s go with something else entirely.(<a href="http://www.moviehole.net/201142195-exclusive-feig-on-the-hammmccarthy-movie-rumour" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Moviehole</a>)</p>

<description><![CDATA[Details are sketchy, but it might entail charming adults acting like children. ]]></description>
<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/films/the-spirit' target='_blank'>the spirit</a> of the studio system, the team behind a successful project is being preemptively reunited to do &#8220;that same thing again, but, you know&#8230;different.&#8221;</p>
<p>After <em>Bridesmaids&#8217;</em> monster take at <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/films/the-box' target='_blank'>the box</a> office this May, Universal has reunited director <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/films/paul' target='_blank'>Paul</a> Feig and producer/director/writer/man-child <a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/judd-apatow-talks-pee-wee-herman-movie-and-knocked-up-spinoff/" target="_blank">Judd Apatow</a> by purchasing a pitch from their camp. Of course, the studio refuses to deliver the log line, but <a href="http://www.deadline.com/2011/06/bridesmaids-duo-paul-feig-and-judd-apatow-at-altar-on-new-universal-comedy/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Deadline</a> informs us it&#8217;s an &#8220;unconventional <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/love-story/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>love story</a> and is something Feig has been working on for awhile.&#8221; Wow! Consider my appetite whetted!</p>
<p>This duo has worked together since &#8220;<a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/freaks/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Freaks</a> and <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/geeks/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Geeks</a>&#8221; way back in the <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/1990s/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>1990&#8242;s</a>, and their bodies of work, both individually and as a team are pretty solid, so get excited about this project, if only because this <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/reunion-43/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>reunion</a> might mean an original new comedy from two bright minds, as opposed to a stale retread, similar to <a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/hangover-2-tattoo-has-legal-clearance-release-date-unchanged/" target="_blank">that other May release</a>.</p>

<description><![CDATA[Brush up on their projects. ]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://cdn2.screenjunkies.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/<a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/films/Paul' target='_blank'>Paul</a>-movie-still.jpg&#8221;><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-201198" title="paul-movie-still" src="http://cdn2.screenjunkies.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/paul-movie-still.jpg" alt='' width="550" height="315" /></a></p>
<p>SXSW screened <a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-review/sxsw-review-paul/" target="_blank"><em>Paul</em></a> and <a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-review/sxsw-review-<a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/films/Bridesmaids' target='_blank'>Bridesmaids</a>-work-print/&#8221; target=&#8221;_blank&#8221;><em>Bridesmaids</em></a> as a double bill because Kristin Wiig is in both and Universal released both. So the stars and filmmakers of both films walked the red carpet in Austin, TX outside the Paramount theater.</p>
<p>In <em>Paul</em>, Kristin Wiig plays Ruth Buggs, a trailer park owner who gets a glimpse at the alien in Graeme (Simon Pegg) and Clive (Nick Frost)’s trailer. With her Christian creationist world shattered, Ruth takes every opportunity to swear along the road. <em>Bridesmaids</em> stars Wiig as a maid of honor in crazy wedding shenanigans.</p>
<p>Q: Did you enjoy playing this silly swearing girl?</p>
<p>Kristen Wiig: No… [pretends to walk away] I’m just kidding. What if I did that? It’d be horrible. Yes, oh my God, it was so nice to have them write a character that had that trait and someone that went through such a crazy transformation after seeing an alien.</p>
<p>Q: Is the reason it’s funny that it’s her first time, this awakening of her?</p>
<p>KW: Yes, first time seeing an alien as opposed to other people who’ve been revisited.</p>
<p>Q: I think it’s her first time swearing, because she was so devoutly religious before.</p>
<p>KW: Oh, first time swearing, yes, because she thought that was sinning and then when she sees the alien, she comes to the conclusion: well, maybe if there’s an alien, there’s no god and there’s no sinning, I can do whatever I want.</p>
<p>Q: What will we see in <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/films/bridesmaids' target='_blank'>Bridesmaids</a>?</p>
<p>KW: There’s no aliens that I can tell you about. I’m really excited. Judd <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/apatow-112/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Apatow</a> produced it and <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/films/paul' target='_blank'>Paul</a> Feig directed it. I co-wrote it with my friend Annie. There’s a lot of funny ladies in it.</p>
<p>Q: When you’re writing a character for yourself, what sort of vehicle do you want to create?</p>
<p>KW: I tried not to think of myself playing it so much when we wrote it because I didn’t want to cloud how I was writing the character that much. I just wanted to write something that made sense and had a lot of good parts for females.</p>
<p>Q: Do you have a unique take on the bridesmaid phenomenon?</p>
<p>KW: Well, you’ll have to see the movie.</p>
<p><a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/simon-pegg-89/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Simon Pegg</a> plays Graeme, a sci-fi artist and Comic-Con fan who meets the real alien, Paul. He co-wrote the script with Frost and loaded it with references to our favorite mutual <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/sci-fi-movies-603/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>sci-fi movies</a>. He was cagey about Mission: Impossible IV which he’s already shot and A World’s End which he’s writing with <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/edgar-wright-952/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Edgar Wright</a>, but actually had more to say about <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/star-trek-724/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Star Trek</a> 2 which doesn’t exist in any form yet.</p>
<p>Q: Are we seeing your comedy grou <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/films/break' target='_blank'>break</a> up into different combinations, like we saw the Pythons do where some of them did A Fish Called Wanda but not the whole troupe?</p>
<p>Simon Pegg: Yeah, I guess. I don’t know what our comedy team is. The Pythons were a unit that came out of a comedy troupe from university whereas we’ve all met at different times. I think we can probably split up with less obviousness. Nick and I have worked together a lot because we’re best mates and probably will continue to do so because it’s a way we can hang out. But I really want to work with people like Kristin and Bill [Hader] and Jason [Bateman] and those guys. I love them so it’s a treat to be able to.</p>
<p>Q: But you, Nick and Edgar are a group.</p>
<p>SP: Well, Edgar had developed <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/scott-pilgrim-936/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Scott Pilgrim</a> and we knew that we wouldn’t be doing that with him because it was a separate project. Paul was a separate project from Edgar so we always were going to go off and do our own little side projects and come back together again.</p>
<p>Q: What is the obsession with a three breasted woman?</p>
<p>SP: It’s just one more, isn’t it, than you should have. I think it’s one of those sort of slightly lame sort of sci-fi clichés, that guys would think one more would be somehow better than too. It’s odd.</p>
<p>Q: Even in Total Recall he said he wished he had three hands. But we don’t.</p>
<p>SP: I think Jo LoTruglio says, “You should’ve given her four” which then becomes, I say, sick.</p>
<p>Q: I love that you were so decisive about it.</p>
<p>SP: Well, then you become some sort of wolfmother. It’s just weird. Three’s good, four is terrible. It’s the old saying, isn’t it?</p>
<p>Q: We do love the collaborations between you, Nick and Edgar. Is A World’s End your take on the apocalypse genre?</p>
<p>SP: No, it’s nothing yet. It’s just a title that we’ve thrown out there to shut people up.</p>
<p>Q: When do you actually get to start working on that?</p>
<p>SP: Hopefully in the next couple of months we’ll start writing it. It’s just a question of getting together.</p>
<p>Q: Do you get cool stuff to do in Mission: Impossible IV?</p>
<p>SP: Yes, I do. That’s all I can say.</p>
<p>Q: Obviously Scotty was the last one to join the crew in Star Trek. Obviously you don’t know what the next script will be yet but are you excited to be there from the beginning?</p>
<p>SP: Absolutely. I can’t wait. It’s a great crew. We all got on very well and I can’t wait to get back into that thing of getting to know each other. I think they’ll pick up the story from where we left off and we’ve all only just met so there’s a lot of mileage I would imagine dramatically in us all sort of getting to know each other.</p>
<p><a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/paul-feig-913/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Paul Feig</a> was a regular director on “Arrested Development” and he still does major TV shows like “Nurse Jackie” and “The Office.” <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/bridesmaids/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Bridesmaids</a> is his second movie, and he’s technically not done making it yet.</p>
<p>Q: What are we going to get to see tonight in Bridesmaids?</p>
<p>Paul Feig: You’re going to see everything. They’re calling it a work in progress but really it’s all locked. It’s just we haven’t done the sound mix or the color timing on it yet but it’s a big funny comedy that’s about women but is not just for women. We really worked hard to just make it funny for everybody but it’s a very grounded emotional story about a woman whose life is falling apart. This event just speeds that along but it allows her to rebuild herself to a better place.</p>
<p>Q: A lot of wedding movies are about “this is all crazy, but you should still do it everyone, everyone still have big weddings.” What’s the worldview of your movie?</p>
<p>PF: For us, honestly the wedding is just a conduit to tell the story of a woman who’s having problems with her best friend. It’s much less about the wedding and more about how important your friends are to you. The wedding allows it to be the ticking clock that moves it forward but at the end of the day, it’s really about friendship.</p>
<p>Q: What will be the standout comic set pieces?</p>
<p>PF: Oh, you will definitely be talking about the dress shop, I guarantee you that. You’ll be talking about the airplane, I guarantee you that and about Annie trying to get the cop’s attention at the end of the movie.</p>
<p>Q: Do you have a great trying on dresses <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/montage-855/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>montage</a>?</p>
<p>PF: Well, we do but we’ve subverted it a little bit so you’ll go into it thinking you know what’s going to happen and then you will be very pleasantly surprised.</p>
<p>Q: Will Julia Roberts be pissed at you?</p>
<p>PF: That’s my goal. That is my goal. Hopefully she will say, “Yes, ah, why didn’t I think of that?”</p>
<p>Paul is in theaters now. Bridesmaids hits May 13.</p>

However, as <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/paula-abdul/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Paula Abdul</a> and a cartoon cat instruct us: opposites attract.</p>
<p>On the set of the Feig directed <em><a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-review/sxsw-review-bridesmaids-work-print/">Bridesmaids</a></em>, he hit it off with Hamm. Now the two are working on some kinda top-secret-for-now project. Comedy nerds, start heaping tons of praise on this project right now. Speaking of &#8220;comedy nerds,&#8221; that&#8217;s how Feig described Hamm in a recent interview:</p>
<blockquote><p>“[Hamm] is such a comedy <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/nerd/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>nerd</a>. He will quote lines from <em>Kids in the Hall: Brain Candy</em>. You’re quoting something even I can’t quote! He’s always wanted to do comedy. One of the next things I’m developing a project for him to star in. I think he’s so funny. He’s like <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/cary-grant/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Cary Grant</a> to me.”</p></blockquote>
<p>It&#8217;s pretty awesome that <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/jon-hamm-941/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Jon Hamm</a> loves <em>Brain Candy</em>. If I was passing him on the street and said &#8220;cat on my head,&#8221; he might yell &#8220;cat on my head&#8221; back at me, rather than give me a freaked-out glare and walk in the other direction. I guess you can&#8217;t judge a nerdy book by it&#8217;s handsome cover. (<a href="http://collider.com/paul-feig-jon-hamm-project/80781/" rel="nofollow">Collider</a>)</p>

<description><![CDATA[Follows the same plot as all “outrageous wedding” movies.]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://cdn2.screenjunkies.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/<a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/films/bridesmaids' target='_blank'>bridesmaids</a>-movie-gals.jpg&#8221;><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-201447" title="bridesmaids-movie-gals" src="http://cdn2.screenjunkies.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/bridesmaids-movie-gals.jpg" alt='' width="600" height="<a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/300/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>300</a>&#8221; /></a></p>
<p>The work print screening of <a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/Video/apatow-lifts-the-veil-on-bridesmaids-trailer/" target="_blank"><em>Bridesmaids</em></a> played well at <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/sxsw-504/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>SXSW</a>, but I wasn’t into it. It’s actually the first movie of the festival I haven’t liked, so it probably feels like a harsher letdown.</p>
<p>It opens funny with <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/annie/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Annie</a> (<a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/how-to-train-your-dragon-actress-kristen-wiig/" target="_blank">Kristin Wiig</a>) having outrageous sex with Ted (Jon Hamm). Annie speaks in the stream of consciousness rambling that Wiig peppers with humor each time she adds a phrase. Once her best friend Lillian (Maya Rudolph) gets engaged, it becomes the typical wedding movie.</p>
<p>All the other <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/bridesmaids/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>bridesmaids</a> are contrived one-dimensional types. Rita (Wendi McLendon-Covey) complains about her obnoxious sons and husband.  Becca (Ellie Kemper) is the lovey dovey newlywed. Megan is a butch type. Helen (Rose Byrne) is just so perfect it drives Annie crazy.</p>
<p>Wiig pretty much stops doing the Kristin Wiig thing in order to serve a generic, clichéd plot. She does a dance when Officer Rhodes pulls her over but stops the random phrases and tones down the physicality, so you don’t get a Kristin Wiig movie after all.</p>
<p>The big problem with the premise is that jealousy is not funny. Helen outshines Annie’s wedding plans and the film follows the same plot as all “outrageous wedding” movies. At the engagement toast, the dress fittings, the <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/bachelorette/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>bachelorette</a> party and bridal shower, Helen comes up with crazy plans that take over Annie’s sincere ones.</p>
<p>Helen’s manipulative usurping isn’t funny though. She has connections to a fancy dress shop. She wants to take the girls to Las Vegas. She has a fancy mansion with a fondue fountain. The only joke is that Annie is insecure that Helen’s more superficially impressive than she is.</p>
<p><em>Bridesmaids </em>might coast if it was just generic, but it drags out so long it forces you to work it out. Directo <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/films/paul' target='_blank'>Paul</a> Feig said that “work print” only meant they had color timing and sound issues to polish. He should really consider taking 30 minutes out, because there’s so much plot. At a certain point you realize while Annie’s working out her relationship with Office Rhodes, hey, they still have to have a wedding to wrap this sucker up.</p>
<p>I like Kristin Wiig a lot. I think her physicality is phenomenal and her attitude is sweet. She doesn’t seem to make jokes at anyone’s expense. She just enjoys being silly. <em>Bridesmaids </em>doesn’t feel like her, and she wrote it herself!</p>

<description><![CDATA[Freaks and Geeks producers Judd Apatow and Paul Feig are finally joining forces again to grant Kristen Wiig her first starring role in a feature film. Feig will direct, Apatow will produce, and Wiig will almost certainly act awkward. Universal Pictures is keeping the logline under wraps, those sneaky devils, but it is described as revolving around women competing to plan a friend&#039;s wedding party.Really? Are we going to do THAT movie again? Weddings, competitions, and cake icing in various cracks has been up on the silver screen more than Sharon Stone&#039;s whispering eye. I, like everyone else in the all the land, was a big fan of Freeks and Geeks, so I have faith that Apatow and Feig will bring a much needed not-eye-gaugingly-painful spin to the trite concept. Then again, we could just be looking at another Bride Wars with Wiig making digs under her breath and pulling something sexual/dead out of her pocket at the most inappropriate moment. (Variety)
