It’s good to know that 2008′s Made Of Honor didn’t rob the world of the comedic stylings of Patrick Dempsey. Here he heads the wacky ensemble in Flypaper as a man caught in the middle of two simultaneous bank robberies. He must manage the situation or else risk the life of Ashley Judd‘s bank teller, with whom he is secretly in love.

Seems like a fun alternative to the usual romantic comedy where a hot girl can’t find love because she’s too career-driven or wears glasses. Although it does seem almost too cartoonish with every cliche of robber represented. We’ve got yokels, psychotics, neurotic idea men, adrenaline junkies, and Mekhi Phifer. He should have plenty of 8 Mile residuals. There’s simply no need for him to take our retirement funds.

That’s an exchange from my one act play: Man Who Gets Killed Talking To A Transformer. The sneak peak image below is from the upcoming Transformers: Dark of the Moon, starring Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Patrick Dempsey. It’s a new, dizzying look at the Decepticon Shockwave, who’s working with Megatron on a crazy new scheme that’s bad news for humans. Y’know, the little fleshy guys that don’t turn into stuff.

In an interview, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura recently described Shockwave as “a ball of destruction, pulling whole skyscrapers down. He’s a messy guy to have in our world.” I hear he also doesn’t use a spoon when he eats pasta, and sauce gets all over the city. Very messy. Also, he kills a lot of people.

UPDATE: News That Mattered Five Years Ago: Dempsey Leaving ‘Grey’s Anatomy’?

Patrick Dempsey recently told Italian Vogue that he would not be returning to ”Grey’s Anatomy.”

There’s not a single part of that sentence that I don’t find hilarious.

Seeing as I assumed he had left the show four years ago, this news comes as a terrible shock. While Dempsey didn’t cite a particular reason for leaving, his deal expires at the end of next year, so the reason was probably “I wanted to get the eff out three years ago, but I didn’t want to get sued.”

Co-star Ellen Pompeo’s contract is up as well after next season, so some questions about the viability of the show are raised by this news. Frankly, questions about the viability of the show were raised a few years ago when the ratings steadily trended downward, but now they’re REALLY being raised. Some believe that this could signal a happy ending for both Dempsey and Pompeo’s characters, who have been romantically involved on the show. However, given the quality of the writing recently, I expect them to get randomly stabbed in the kidneys with screwdrivers, lying in pools of their own blood as the season 8 finale credits roll.

UPDATE: Dempsey isn’t necessarily leaving “Grey’s Anatomy,” according to his publicist. The actor’s rep says he was quoted out-of-context. Apparently, he was really saying his contract is up after next season and he doesn’t know what he’ll do. Thank god there’s still hope… (EW)

You Don’t Have To Wait As Long To See ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’

Paramount is apparently giddier than a hobo on Free Soup Day about getting Transformers: Dark of the Moon into theaters. They moved it up two days, from Friday, July 1st to Wednesday, June 29th. Here’s a quote from an anonymous studio “insider,” who may or may not be in league with the Decepticons:

“Early response to footage, especially the 3D footage, has been great so we want to get the word out that this film is as good or better than the first and much better than the last.”

I guess the excitement over that clip with Patrick Dempsey has caused Paramount to relent to the people’s feverish demands to see Transformers: Dark of the Moon as soon as possible. See? Democracy does work. (Deadline)

When I think Michael Bay, I think “human drama.” And my preconceived notions are nothing but confirmed as I watch this, the first clip from Transformers: The Dark of the Moon. Now you can watch it too, and imagine how awesome it would be with giant transforming robots beating the shit out of each other, and Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Patrick Dempsey.

But, no matter how much you imagine it, there aren’t any robots to be seen here. Just Patrick Dempsey vaguely being a dick to Shia LaBeouf. Which sounds cool on paper, but I dunno. I kind of wanted there to be robots. (Comingsoon)

Patrick Dempsey and Jamie Kennedy Could Tango with Bay for ‘Transformers 3′

I’m only writing about this because I REALLY wanted to put together the above photoshop. Patrick Dempsey and Jamie Kennedy are maybe going to be a part of Transformers 3. Random much? Michael Bay must just be shouting out the names of people he sees on TV now. I’m sure Can’t Buy Me Love and Scream were playing back-to-back on some network this past weekend.

Depending on where you translate the interview that Dempsey gave to Brazilian website BOH it either says:

“I start filming later this month in “Transformers 3″, which I play a character who is far more “dark” than others.”

or:

"Chicken patty sandwich."

Don’t ask me, I don’t speak Portuguese.

Jamie Kennedy told 8KUPD Arizona (he got interviewed by a license plate?) that he “had an interesting interview with the people behind the new Transformers movie and I may have a role in the movie.”

More Transformers 3 casting news to come, but I really don’t see it getting anymore exciting than this, people. (/Film)
