Nurse Jackie” actress Jaimie Alexander is about to get the goddess treatment. Known for her role as Jessi on the television series “Kyle XY,” Alexander is playing the warrior goddess Sif in the upcoming superhero flick Thor. She will likely be awesome in the role because she is hot, brunette, and assumedly looks great carrying a sword.

A word from Jaimie: “Never be ashamed of what or how you feel….just be honest.”

“Nurse Jackie” returns picking up right where it left off with Jackie (Edie Falco) in the bathroom after her husband Kevin (Dominic Fumusa) staged at intervention. She confronts Kevin with reasonable explanations for all her pharmacy purchases, like addicts always have good explanations.

Jackie goes about smoothing over her whole operation, including Akalitus (Anna Deavere Smith) and O’Hara (Eve Best). O’Hara’s holding a grudge. That’ll take a few episodes to smooth over (they sent the whole season, I cheated and watched ahead.) Other major season two issues get resolved too when Kevin makes a decision about their daughters’ tuition, but tries to keep Jackie out of it.

Back at the hospital, Zoey (Merritt Wever) is adorable in her afterglow, jumping around. Her sex talk continues throughout the premiere, and the season. Zooey fans can also look forward to her pedometer antics, speed walking in place in episode four.

There are two major hospital patients in the premiere. A kid has a mirror stuck up his nose because he wanted to see his brain. Jackie finds a way to make his dream come true.

The other patient is a tragic one, the kind medical dramas thrive on. A father/son moving team comes in with the son foun buried under a pile of boxes. They actually don’t have a cure for that. It’s one of those impossible dramas filled with guilt and emotion, and Jackie is there for the father.

Another long-lasting incident happens when Kevin shows up at the hospital. Nobody knew Jackie was married and Zoey even checks Kevin’s ID. This leads to everybody finding out everybody’s secrets in a series of awkward reveals.

This is all solid “Nurse Jackie.” I love watching Jackie handle the daily grind and execute her schemes to get by in her real life. The show seems to know how we like to see the supporting cast fill the hospital with their dysfunctions and they’re giving us more of that this season.

Showtime Stops Californicating With Netflix http://www.screenjunkies.com/tv/tv-news/showtime-stops-californicating-with-netflix/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/tv/tv-news/showtime-stops-californicating-with-netflix/#comments Wed, 23 Mar 2011 07:49:05 +0000 Geoffrey Golden http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=203119 You know what I don't want to pay for? Showtime. But now they expect me to for some reason.

You know what I don’t want to pay for? Showtime. However, it looks like the pay cable channel is taking their current shows off of Netflix, in an attempt to get me to pay for their dumb ol’ channel, regardless of my feelings. I guess the free (or rather, relatively less expensive) ride’s over folks. Unless, of course, you know what BitTorrenting is.

You can still watch Showtime‘s retired original series, like “The Tudors,” but what’s the fun in that? The point is to be able to stay somewhat caught up on “Californication” without spending extra bucks on Showtime. Why’d they suddenly become a bunch of jerkos?

Viewers are “cutting the cord” more and more, opting for an internet/Netflix combo rather than expensive cable. So it could be a way to protect their precious, precious David Duchovny related-content. Or maybe they got spooked by Netflix having a fancy shmancy original series of their own – the Kevin Spacey starring “House of Cards.” (TheWrap)

It’s almost time for season 3 of the Showtime series “Nurse Jackie,” I guess. It seems that way, in any case, because here’s a trailer for it. I’ve never seen the show, but I gather it’s about this nurse named “Mackie” or something like that, and she cheats on her husband so much that her coworkers don’t realize she’s married. Oh and there’s bad language, which is helpfully obscured in this video for some reason (I guess it’s not being shown on Showtime). Anyway, enjoy the trailer, if that’s your thing. I’m not gonna judge you. Whatever floats your boat, brah.

Showtime has some things to say today about a new reality show, a pickup for a new season, and some premiere dates for familiar series. One episode into season four of Californication, David Duchovny‘s, uh, “fictitious” womanizing exploits, the channel was impressed enough with the premiere that they announced at TCA that they would be greenlighting a fifth season so that more cable viewers will be able to live vicariously through the wonder that is Hank Moody.

The cable channel also announced that they somehow intend to make baseball less boring behind the scenes with the production of an untitled series that follows the San Fransisco Giants in their quest to defend their World Series title. Showtime will be teaming up with MLB Productions in what looks to be a Hard Knocks-type series, showing what goes on in the clubhouse. A safe guess: hamburgers and chewing tabacco.

Lastly, Showtime gave three premiere dates for new seasons of Nurse Jackie (March 28), The United States of Tara (March 28 as well), and their new series The Borgias (April 3) which stars Jeremy Irons as the head of a renaissance-era crime family. If they need a Christopher Columbus character, we’re pretty sure that Gerard Depardieu is available. (Deadline)
