The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’s Niels Arden Oplev returns to direct Rapace once again in this twisty revenge thriller. Also starring Terrence Howard and Adele’s version of “Shine On You Crazy Diamond.”

If anything, this international trailer for Ridley Scott’s maybe Alien prequel gives us a hint of the scope of this film. The large set pieces that build both the crew’s world and the alien civilization look massive and if we could figure out what the hell is going on here I’d bet we’re in for another tremendous science fiction film from Scott. Still feel bad that this bunch is being tortured, though. Then again, they’re all rather pretty and probably got unfair advantages at astronaut school. Maybe had they studied more, they wouldn’t have melted faces now. (via Twitch)

Explain yourself, Ridley Scott.

“By the end of the third act you start to realize there’s a DNA of the very first alien, but none of the subsequent aliens. To tell you what that is is a pity, and I’m not going to tell you, because it’s actually pretty good, pretty organic to the process and to the original. But we go back, we don’t go forward.”

Scott also acknowledges that the Space Jockey from the original will be involved. Also, why the hell didn’t anyone notice or ask any questions about the giant corpse?

“Yeah, so there you have that. I was always amazed that, I mean, I’ve only done two science-fictions, but I was always amazed that no one asked who the hell the Space Jockey was. He wasn’t even called the Space Jockey. During the film they started to call it the Space Jockey. I don’t know who started that one off. I always thought it was amazing that no one ever asked who he was, and why was he there? What was all that about? I sat thinking about this for a while and thought, well, there’s a story! And the other four [films] missed it! So, here it is.”

And yes, H.R. Giger will be in da house.

“I brought him in, I showed him what we were doing, showed him the story and he liked it a lot” said Scott. “So he’s doing a little bit of work for me. He’s been doing some murals, big murals, which we’ll see in almost one of the first chambers we encounter when we land where we’re gonna go.”

And can we expect to see the alien itself devouring the cast?

“No. Absolutely not,” states Scott before joking, “They squeezed it dry. He (the xenomorph) did very well. (He laughs) He survived, he’s now in Disneyland in Orlando, and no way am I going back there. How did he end up in Disneyland? I saw him in Disneyland, Jesus Christ!”

I don’t know, but xenomorphs rampaging through Disneyland would make an awesome movie. (Filmophilia)

These posters are pretty cool, if conventional. And, surprise, they’re very reminiscent of the posters for the first Sherlock Holmes movie. As Sherlock once said to Watson: “My dear Watson, if it isn’t broken, then why endeavor upon fixing it?” (Yahoo!)

How do we feel about this title? Did you need a colon added to pique your interest, or are you even less intrigued now? I do wonder about this game involving shadows though. What are the rules? How many players are allowed? And most importantly, can alcohol be integrated into it? (/Film)

And then he’s about to find out how much cruises suck. The actor/chillologist is in talks to board the deadly Last Voyage of the Demeter. Based on a segment from Bram Stoker‘s Dracula, the Demeter is the doomed vessel that transported Count Dracula from Transylvania to England. While in transit, the vampire broke free and ate the ship’s crew one by one. It’s like a steampunk version of  Alien.

David “I Stake For Vampires” Slade is attached to direct with Noomi Rapace and Ben Kingsley also circling roles. There’s no word on whether or not the actors will be on the menu or fitted for fangs. I hope that Kingsley is given the Dracula role over a lifeless CGI-creation or a lifeless Eurotrash actor. It’s been awhile since he’s gone off the chain and he’s already a knight. He can pretty much do whatever he wants as long as he upholds his promise to defend England against future dragon attacks. (Bleeding Cool)

Noomi Rapace and Ben Kingsley are both attached to the project but it’ unknown if they’re still going to do it or not, especially if the filming conflicts with Prometheus. I’m hoping this means that Kingsley is supposed to play Dracula, which would be awesome and a shame if it doesn’t happen. (via The Playlist)

According to ComingSoon.net, Scott’s vision was originally written by Jon Spaihts, but apparently has been honed by Scott himself and no less than Damon Lindelof, one of the driving forces behind “Lost.” No plot specifics have been given, but one casting note is available. Noomi Rapace will be playing the role of scientist Elizabeth Shaw. She was hand-picked by Scott after her portrayal of Lisbeth Salander, the titular lead in all three original movies in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy. The release date is scheduled for March 9, 2012, which really isn’t that far off, so expect things to get clearer soon.

Those are the details. What does it mean for the much-discussed and anticipated Alien prequel? It’s unsure, but it would appear that this will supersede that project. Whether or not it will replace the prequel entirely has not been made clear by anyone in the know yet. Though no timelines has been given for Prometheus, it’s expected that roles in the film will be cast soon. This news may beg more questions than it answers, but the combination of Cuse, Scott, and the Alien universe will probably ease the mourning of those anticipating the prequel.

However, while Fox might be hopping into bed with Theron, and who can blame them, Scott isn’t as happy with the choice. We know that Scott’s got an eye on Noomi Rapace, who stars in the Swedish-language version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Getting Fox to sink a space-ton of money on a relativel unknown actress is gonna be a bigger uphill battle than a few puny human fighting an Alien in a little spaceship.

Judging from the picture above, you would think that Ben Kingsley and Noomi Rapace were starring together in I’m Too Sexy, the Right Said Fred biopic. That, however, is not the case. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and The Guy Who Got Knighted Despite Being In ‘BloodRayne’ have joined The Last Voyage Of Demeter.

The film follows the story of the crew that transported Dracula‘s coffin from Transylvania to England. If you’re familiar with Bram Stoker‘s Dracula, you’ll remember that crew arrives dead. So keep that in mind before your next cruise. Dracula is a total a-hole to travel with. (LA Times)

We’ve got word that Ridley Scott’s Alien prequel may end up being downright adorable. Early reports that Gemma Arterton would star in the film were shot down, leaving the role wide open for the right starlet. According to Deadline, the director and studio have been meeting with actresses, including Carey Mulligan, and Noomi Rapace.

Rapace is said to have a made "a strong impression." There wasn’t any mention of how Mulligan’s meeting went, but our inside sources confirmed that Ridley "really liked that little boy."

The original Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Noomi Rapace has become the new "it" actress in Hollywood. She recently signed on to deliver death alongside Jeremy Renner in Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, and now she’s secured a role in Sherlock Holmes 2. The logline is being kept under wraps, but Noomi is said to be playing a French Gypsy. It is unclear if the role is romantic in nature. One would think Holmes would be smart enough to not trust a Gypsy, but when they cast an evil spell on you at a street fair you can’t resist them. It’s the only way I can explain the atrocious lamp in my living room. (THR)

Jeremy Renner recently spoke to Norwegian site Dagsavisen in loud, deliberate speech patterns to explain that he might work for breadcrumbs in Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters. He also stated that original Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Noomi Rapace, may play his sister and fellow witch hunter for director Tommy Wirkola and producers Adam McKay and Will Ferrell.

There’s no official press release yet, so don’t consider this a lock. It’s about time Renner returned to comedy. He showed such promise in National Lampoon’s Senior Trip. (Twitch)
