And things don't sound good.

Nick Stahl, an actor who made a name for himself in a number of big-budget features, as well as more artful fare, has been missing for almost a week after last being seen in Los Angeles’ Skid Row area downtown. His wife notified the police after failing to hear from him for five days, knowing that he has a substance abuse problem.

Stahl had hit a personal rough patch (putting it mildly) recently. He separated from his wife in January, who had recently requested his visits with his 2 year-old daughter be monitored and that he be drug tested 24 hours in advance of any such visit. He then got arrested for “defrauding a taxi operator for stiffing a cabbie on a fare, which cost him a day in jail.

His wife claims that his drug addiction has escalated recently, which may have played a part in his disappearance.

Get home, Nick. There’s a Sin City sequel that might need you.

The ubiquitous Nick Stahl has joined the cast for the television pilot Locke & Key, a Fox project that had originally been slated for summer consideration.

The ubiquitous Nick Stahl has joined the cast for the television pilot Locke & Key, a Fox project that had originally been slated for summer consideration, but has recently been pushed back to fall, offering the refreshingly frank explanation, “We couldn’t make the dates.” As long as that delightful play on words remains the title, an eager public will wait patiently. Locke & Key focuses on a family that, after the father’s murder, returns to his old house where they are haunted by a spirit named DODGE The spirit, which is of course evil, holds the family hostage unless it gets its way. Undoubtedly, we would learn more about DODGE and the family history as the series progresses. With this known, it should go without saying that this show is based on a graphic novel. Stahl would play the deceased’s younger brother who lives nearby. Stahl will join the existing cast, which includes Sarah Bolger and Miranda Otto.

This news, in conjunction with the Terra Nova premiere news yesterday, shows that Fox is making good on its promise to focus more on show development, perhaps realizing that American Idol won’t be their mealticket forever. While the premise of Locke & Key certainly doesn’t ensure that they’re developing good shows, they never spoke to the quality of their programming, just that they’d try harder. (Deadline)

With a limited release on January 14th, Burning Palms hasn’t had enjoyed much (read: any) public awareness, possibly because they haven’t released a trailer for the film until yesterday. Written and directed by Christopher B. Landon of Paranormal Activity 2 (and 3), Burning Palms is a Crash-type study of five intersecting lives, accompanied by the unfortunate tagline, “Five tales that will f%&# you up for life.” They should probably not let thirteen year-old boys jacked up on Mountain Dew do their PR and marketing going forward. Since that doesn’t answer many questions, a quick look at the trailer will convey that this is a movie about sin and moral bankruptcy in LA. It’s about time someone did a movie about that!

While it’s not quite A-list, the cast of Burning Palms is an interesting bunch with Dylan McDermott, Nick Stahl, Zoe Saldana, Paz Vega, and Shannen Doherty. The movie seems more concerned with the intersections themselves and taboo subject matter than it does with telling a compelling story, which could relegate this film as a cut-rate version of Brett Easton Ellis‘ The Informers. Is there even such a thing? (/Film)
