We can’t possibly be talking about the same Chip-Wrecked, can we? The third installment of the Alvin and the Chipmunks trilogy? The one that puts a bow on the saga, while introducing us to a delightful island-themed holiday?

David Cross, the embittered, middle-aged indie comic who was contractually obligated to appear in all three Chipmunks movies didn’t have a good time? Weird. Has he seen the final product? Cause he really nailed the performance. Maybe he took that vitriol inside him and put it into the role of Ian, the underhanded record executive. I hate that Ian guy SO MUCH!

Cross went around on the junket telling reporters, ”I was contractually obligated to do three, which is kinda standard.” Effusive praise for the films, indeed.

The real takeaway here lies in this quote from Playlist:

“This last film was literally, without question, the most unpleasant experience I’ve ever had in my professional life,” he says of ‘Chip-Wrecked,’ where he reprises his role of record executive Ian. Without naming names, he says, “It’s safe to say I won’t be working with some of those people ever again. Not the actors. And the director [Mike Mitchell] was great. We got along. There were a couple of people, though…it was just a really awful, unpleasant experience.” Which isn’t to say the entire ‘Chipmunks’ experience has been rotten for him. “I got recognized in China,” he says, listing off the places ‘Chipmunks’ has taken him. “I got recognized in a teeny tiny town in Mozambique. In Zimbabwe. Botswana. It’s crazy.”

So there ya go.

It’s ‘Mr. Film’ with Bob and David!

Here’s some good news for fans of the groundbreaking sketch-comedy series, “Mr. Show.” Bob Odenkirk is directing a new feature, and David Cross has tentatively agreed to appear in the film. Terra delu!

Although nothing is official, Odenkirk also claims that Krysten Ritter, Rainn Wilson and Dennis Farina have read the script and informally signed on to the project. Not much is known about the film other than its title, Annie Jenkins: A Not Very Romantic Comedy. But if it’s half as funny as “Mr. Show,” we’re in for a real treat. If it’s only a quarter as funny as “Mr. Show,” I guess we’re in for another Brothers Solomon. At this point, I’ll settle for that. (The Wrap)
