Presumably not as the boy.

NBC, still operating under the assumption that something that was once popular as a movie or TV show will once again be very popular as a TV show, even if it is appearing on a watered-down, flawed network, will be adapting Nick Hornby’s About a Boy as a series.

While the motivations and strategy are dubious, the team in place is a fairly strong one, with Driver acting alongside David Walton, Jason Katims of Friday Night Lights producing, and Jon Favreau, the Elf and Ironman helmer, directing the pilot.

Network television has lost footing to cable networks in its ability to convey realism and grit to those series that require it, and while About a Boy certainly has those requirements, hey, stranger things have happened.

Before she signed up to play a do-good doctor without borders in “Off the Map,” Valerie Cruz spent some time on the opposite end of the medical spectrum, portraying a not-so-helpful psychologist throughout the first season of “Nip/Tuck.” That role disappeared without a trace (another tragic victim of Chuck Cunningham syndrome) but Cruz went on to appear in such shows as “The Dresden Files,”"Dexter,” and”True Blood.” Does anyone else think she looks like Minnie Driver? But better looking and with a less-stupid name? No doubt.

The upcoming adaptation of Mark Jude Poirier’s 2000 novel Goats has been gestating for a while now, but the movie finally has what appears to be an actual cast apart from already-attached David Duchovny. Despite the title, it has been confirmed that Goats is indeed not the sequel to last year’s documentary Babies, but about goats instead of babies. Actually, the movie is about a teenager to be played by Graham Phillips who attends the prep school that his father attended. Here the teenager is lucky enough to meet a father-surrogate character played by David Duchovny whose name is “Goat Man” for some reason. Oh, think of how much better the world would be if every young man had a father figure played by David Duchovny who goes by the name of “Goat Man.” Most of us had to settle for father figures played by Jim Breuer (he of stoner movie fame), who insisted we call him “Goat Boy.” Man, “goat” is a funny word, isn’t it? Goats!

Especially interesting is the casting of Will Arnett, who really seems to be blowin’ up after the beloved”Arrested Development.” Perhaps his being cast in Goats means we’ll get to see him add “goat” to his dance repertoire, which currently consists of “chicken.” (IndieWire)
