In an effort to remind the world that they still exist, Nokia has attached their name to the final Man Of Steel trailer. I don’t know what’s more shocking — the fact that Nokia is still around or that there’s unseen Man Of Steel footage. Anyway, check out the trailer. Lots of punching and flying. You’ll like it.

June 14th grows nearer everyday. In celebration of this, we have another look at Man Of Steel, which is shaping up to be the most bad-ass Superman film to date. How do we know that this is going to be the most bad-ass Superman film to date? SUPERMAN DROWNS IN A PIT OF HUMAN SKULLS.

And there’s plenty more crazy on display in this trailer as General Zod issues this warning to the people of Earth: “For those of you who know his location, the fate of your planet rests in your hands. To Kal-El I say this: surrender in 24 hours or watch this world suffer the consequences.”

Judging from the mayhem that takes place in the last third of this trailer, I take Zod at his word. I already love this movie. Please don’t let this be another example of excellent trailer, terrible movie.

At the very least, it’s already better than that Superman movie that Shaq did.

We’ve seen how disturbing Michael Shannon can be as a G-Man in Boardwalk Empire, and as a family man in the indie film Take Shelter, so it should be no surprise that when he goes full evil, it’s a spectacle to behold. Such is his role in The Iceman as Richard Kulinski, one of the most notorious hitmen of all time.

Good rule of thumb: Never cross Michael Shannon. Don’t even talk to him. You’d probably be safer petting a wild tiger. Take a look.

The indie film The Iceman just got a little weirder. In the wake of James Franco‘s departure, everyone’s fifth-favorite Friend, David Schwimmer, has signed on to join the project as a contract killer.

While Schwimmer isn’t really known outside of the role of Ross (The Pallbearer? Kissing a Fool?), he showed some dramatic chops in the Band of Brothers miniseries. Granted, that was a decade ago, but still. Dramatic acting is like riding a bike. (I made that up and have no idea if that’s true or not.)

Joining Schwimmer will be Ray Liotta, Michael Shannon, and Maggie Gyllenhaal, all directed by Ariel Vromen. I’m unsure if Marcel the monkey will be appearing in the film as Schwimmer’s sidekick, but we here he is recovering comfortably after his latest stint in rehab (That was not meant as a Matthew Perry joke, but if you took it that way, oh well).

If you have a theory about the look of General Zod in the upcoming Superman reboot, Michael Shannon has some bad news: you’re not even close.

When asked about his role in Man of Steel, the actor and current star of Boardwalk Empire lamented the fact that so many fanboys are so very, very wrong about his character’s wardrobe.

…There’s people that have these pictures – somebody generated this on a computer, but I don’t know it’s a picture of what people think I’m going to look like in the movie. They have like a Fu Manchu, kind of like this black SS uniform and it’s pretty mind-blowingly awful and it’s completely inaccurate, but I go ahead and sign them anyway. But I tell them when I sign the picture, I say “This isn’t – you’re wrong.” You know, whoever thought that they cracked the case is way off.

While your theories about Zod’s outfit might be way off, chances are you already have a pretty good idea about the plot, not that Shannon is allowed to discuss it.

“It’s kind of like saying I’m not supposed to talk about the Pledge of Allegiance,” Shannon said. “It’s kind of silly.”

We’ve seen thrillers where characters are trapped in phone booths and on cellular phones. Now, it’s come to this — a thriller that happens almost entirely on a bicycle. Joseph Gordon-Levitt races through the streets of New York as a bike messenger trying to avoid crooked cops in Premium Rush. Written and directed by David Koepp, it looks like a fun take on action movies. Boardwalk Empire‘s Michael Shannon also stars along with Dania Ramirez, Jamie Chung, and Aasif Mandvi. You might remember that Mandvi also played that pizza guy who fired Peter Parker from his delivery job in the beginning of Spider-Man 2. Good to see he’s still working dispatch. Nobody knows the city like that guy.

What in the name of Zod lays before my eyes?

Why, for the love of Zod, it’s Michael Shannon in a Zod-damned motion capture suit!

General Zod portrayer Michael Shannon was photographed on the set of Superman: Man of Steel recently wearing what could be a really fashion-forward outfit, but is more likely a motion capture suit, indicating, of course, that there will be a CGI component to his character and the film at large. This is probably the least surprising news ever for a Zack Snyder film, but it’s a slow news day, so let’s make a humungous deal out of it, shall we?

When asked about the CGI component, Shannon originally dodged the question, but those little pingpong balls offered a window to a truth not even the Boardwalk Empire star could deny. After deflecting the question in an MTV interview, he came clean with Moviefone. Because who could lie to Moviefone?

Yeah, it’s one of the most humiliating garments that exists in the known universe, yes. It’s very tight. It has a variety of different colors and shapes on it and it makes you feel like you’re the court jester. And it’s funny because when I met with Zack we were talking about it before it started and he mentioned that there was going to be a lot of CGI, or whatever. I said, ‘Just don’t make me wear one of those silly suits.’ He said, ‘Oh, yeah, don’t worry, I know exactly what you’re talking about.’ I was like, ‘It’s going to be really hard for me to be intimidating if I have to wear one of those silly suits.’ He said, ‘I totally understand.’ Then I showed up and he’s like, ‘Dude, I swear to God, it’s going to be so bad ass when we done. Trust me, it’s going to be wicked.’ And, you know, people understand and you get used to it. The first day, you feel like you’re getting rushed by a fraternity… and then it wears off the next day. Because I’m not the only one wearing one – there are other people wearing them, too.

You held out as long as you could, Shannon. Moviefone has ways of making you talk.

Did you ever think to yourself, “What if they made a movie like Evan Almighty, but it wasn’t completely terrible?” Well, Michael Shannon and the team behind Take Shelter addresses that very question. In this haunting slice of Americana (which is a little reminiscent of M. Night’s last decent film Signs) Shannon runs a lower-class rural household faced with myriad problems. However, his priorities fall under scrutiny as he builds a storm shelter after repeated visions of an apocalyptic storm.

See? It’s just like Evan Almighty. Or “the story of Noah” if you want to harken all the way back to Evan’s source material.

Of course, no one plays “intense” like Michael Shannon does, so it should be fascinating to see how he channels a man obsessed. The fact that he just looks like a Dust Bowl-era farmer to begin with only sweetens the deal.

Michael Shannon, the actor who was born to creep us the hell out, has been cast as General Zod in Superman: Man of SteelZack Snyder, the director, stated in the official press release:

“Zod is not only one of Superman’s most formidable enemies, but one of the most significant because he has insights into Superman that others don’t. Michael is a powerful actor who can project both the intelligence and the malice of the character, making him perfect for the role.”

Also, he’s effin’ creepy.

I added that last part.

Zod is a formidable foe for Supes, as he also hails from the same hood of Krypton and knows how they roll there. I personally think this is an inspired choice. Shannon is a terrific actor and it’ll be interesting to see him mix it up with Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Kevin Costner, and Diane Lane. On film, that is. They’ll probably will stay far away from him when the cameras aren’t rolling.

As if circus clowns didn’t give you enough nightmares, now there’s such a thing as a “dead circus.” Luckily, it has nothing to do with a ringmaster murdering kids with a bunch of trained tigers.

Palermo Pictures is looking to put Dead Circus into production soon. It’s a let’s-muck-around-with-actual-historical events drama based on the real life death of 60s singer Bobby Fuller. Do you vaguely remember hearing this song about fighting the law and the law winning? He did that. The cast is pretty solid so far: Michael C. HallDexter“), James Marsden (X-Men), Michael Shannon (Boardwalk Empire) and Melissa Leo (aka The Oscar F-Bomber).

The story is about a screenwriter — trust me, it does get better — who’s investigating the supposed suicide of newly minted pop star Fuller in 1966. The problem? Most people don’t commit suicide by badly bruising themselves and pouring gasoline down their own throats. Then we veer off into the Make Believe Zone, when the writer discovers that Fuller’s “suicide” ties in with the Manson family and snuff film buried in Death Valley. Guys, something tells me this was not actually a suicide at all.

Dead Circus will be directed by its co-writer Adam Davenport, with novel writer John Kaye sharing writing credit. (Deadline)

Michael Shannon is getting some heat here in Tinseltown (Hollywood). He’s rumored to be targeted as the villain in Zack Snyder‘s Superman reboot/remake/adaptation, after three other leads (Clark, Ma, and Pa Kent) have been filled by Henry Cavill, Diane Lane, and Kevin Costner, respectively.

Shannon has garnered attention for playing perhaps the most somber man ever captured on film in “Boardwalk Empire,” so it’s a safe bet that if he is to get the role of villain, that character will be humorless to say the least. It’s uncertain what villain will appear in Superman: Man of Steel, but speculation is that Snyder will stay away from the Lex Luthor route, as it harkens back too much to the less-ballyhooed reboot a few years back.

Based on Shannon’s”Boardwalk Empire” work, I think the natural move here is to create a fundamentalist Christian villain that self-flagellates, then spends found money on hookers and booze. That is to say, a flawed villain. (Deadline)

Three stars have been snagged for the upcoming film The Iceman, which is a true story based on the book The Iceman: The True Story of a Cold-Blooded Killer. A joint statement today by Millenium Films and Bleiberg Entertainment announced that the studios had signed on Michael Shannon, Benicio Del Toro, and the ubiquitous James Franco to the picture with Shannon playing the titular killer, Del Toro his mob boss, and Franco his deadly mentor.

While the cast is certainly standout, the star of this film will remain the story of Richard Kuklinski, a seemingly normal man who led a double life as a mob hit man with over 100 kills to his name and no discernible remorse. The title The Iceman refers to his freezing of the corpses so that police could not pinpoint the time of death. Ariel Vroman is directing, which seems incongruous with the notable cast, but having written the screenplay with Morgan Land, it’s likely that Vroman has conveyed very specific ideas for the project. No word on timeline or a release date, but expect more discussion of this seemingly stellar project once all this Sundance hogwash dies down. (Deadline)
