Months ago, Michael Keaton was walking around in his underwear right outside my window and I missed it. It was all for his bizarre new movie, Birdman. Where he plays an actor who has fallen out of the public favor after reaching global success in a superhero film. This international trailer gives a better look at the stress of being a “has-been” and how that can unravel someone whose creative endeavors are tied so tightly to public opinion and ego. Also, there’s a giant bird fighting helicopters and Naomi Watts making out with another lady.

10 Convincing Reasons Why Beetlejuice 2 Needs To Be Made http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/reasons-beetlejuice-2-needs-to-be-made/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/reasons-beetlejuice-2-needs-to-be-made/#comments Thu, 06 Mar 2014 00:35:23 +0000 Lyndsey Saul http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=259895 Michael Keaton is talking about how much he wants Beetlejuice 2 to be made. Here are 10 reasons why he's absolutely right!

Even though Michael Keaton is currently on a press tour to promote his new movie Need For Speed, alongside Aaron Paul, there’s really only one thing on his mind: Beetlejuice 2, Beetlejuice 2, Beetlejuice 2! Though he does have a few conditions (e.g. Tim Burton must direct–DUH, if not, why bother?!). Keaton is saying he’s been keen to get back in the shoes of the ghost with the most for years. And the good news is that Tim Burton apparently IS on board with this. But Tim, if you’re still on the fence, if you still need a little convincing, here are 10 reasons why you absolutely NEED to make this movie! (Maybe I should also say Beetlejuice three times, just to be safe? He’ll always appear when you say it three times, right?)

1. Michael Keaton is still young enough to play the role. It would be blasphemy to cast anyone but him, but…let’s be honest, the man isn’t getting any younger. You gotta get on that while he still has the physical strength to uncoil a pair of 20 foot-long arms that are attached to inflatable mallet hands. Getting around that with CGI is NOT OK.

2. Beetlejuice cannot be played by an old man, because he can never age beyond the age that he was when he died, which is the age that he is as a dead guy. Otherwise, it won’t make any sense. Again, Keaton’s not getting any younger!

Beetlejuice goes into whorehouse dante's inferno room

3. A sequel of sorts without Michael Keaton has already been made. It was weekly, it was animated and it was for kids. And it was terrible. Just kidding, I really don’t know if it was terrible or not. What I DO know is that it didn’t have any of the dirty jokes or references to great literature in the form of miniature hellish whore houses. This wrong needs to be righted.

4. Beetlejuice attended the Harvard Business School and Julliard. He’s seen The Exorcist about a hundred and sixty seven times…and it keeps getting funnier every time he sees it! Can we really let those qualifications go to waste?

5. Sandworms.

6. As long as you don’t cast Helena Bonham Carter, everyone will see it. OK, so that’s just not realistic. Everyone will see it anyway.

7. A movie like this made using practical effects over CGI would be wonderfully refreshing. (You’d use practical effects, right, Tim??)

8. People have forgotten about the whole Winona Ryder shoplifting thing. In fact, people have pretty much forgotten about Winona Ryder period. Lydia, (a.k.a the “love” of Beetlejuice’s afterlife) could come back without tarnishing the film. Well, maybe a little with her bad acting. But that’s OK. It’s a comedy.

9. A story about bio-exorcism is always relevant. How many times have you wished you could say something as simple as “Beetlejuice” three times in order to get some awful people out of your house?  It’s completely relateable. Who wouldn’t want to again live vicariously through the person that calls on Beetlejuice to do just that for them?

10. Because it would be amazing. I know I’m not alone in citing Beetlejuice as one of my all-time favorite movies or in thinking that Beetlejuice is a character who a new generation of audiences would will love too. Tim, make the sequel now and make it right, before someone else does the unthinkable…and does a remake.

A new trailer for Jose Padilha‘s RoboCop remake is online offering a better look at the film’s plot. This time, it’s not just Detroit that sucks so bad that robotic sentries are needed. It’s the entire world that needs to be policed by hyper-violent killing machines.

However, liberals don’t cotton to the idea of a robot with a gun on American soil so Michael Keaton comes up with the PR-friendly notion of shoving a corpse into a robot. Problem solved!

Before they decided to go with Charlie from Party of Five, the producers of LOST had much different plans for Dr. Jack Shepard. Originally, J.J. Abrams approached Michael Keaton about playing the role… and planned to kill him off in the pilot episode.

Keaton says he was thinking about doing it until Abrams called to let him know that “Dr. Jack Shepard,” who was slated to die in the first episode of the original pilot, would instead be a series regular. “I said, ‘I’ll seriously consider it, send me the script,’” says Keaton. “He said, ‘No, we’re keeping the guy alive,’ and I said, ‘Oh, ok, well I can’t do that.’”

Despite the success of “Lost,” Keaton says he knows he made the right decision. “I wouldn’t do it if the guy was going to be in the show every week,” he says. “An hour show every week… I’ve got stuff to do, I’ve got a life to lead. When would I fish?”

I can understand Keaton’s decision not to move to the beautiful landscape of Hawaii for most of the year. It’s too bad that things didn’t go as originally planned. Had Keaton played Jack and been killed off early in the series, he could always come back as a ghost. The ghost with the most.

Batman vs. RoboCop! BATMAN VS. ROBOCOP!!

Michael Keaton has been set to play the role of Raymond Sellars in the MGM/Columbia Pictures’ RoboCop remake. Sellars is the CEO of the corporation that builds RoboCop, a role that Hugh Laurie was expected to play until he dropped out before consummating a deal. The film, a re-imagining of the 1987 Paul Verhoeven cult classic, is scheduled to begin shooting next month. RoboCop will be released on August 9, 2013. (Deadline)

Pardon my excitement. I know this isn’t necessarily great news for the film, but it is the closest we’ll get to seeing Batman fight RoboCop on the big screen.

Now that Seth Grahame-Smith is putting the finishing touches on his Dead-United-States-President-fighting-vampires masterpiece, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, he has time to think about his future projects. The most important of those being Beetlejuice 2.

Though he hasn’t written the script yet, he has spoken with Michael Keaton (which essentially equals a go picture in Hollywood… twenty years ago). Believe it or not, Keaton is really excited for the project.

“I met with Michael last week,” says Seth, “and his excitement level is huge. We talked for a couple of hours about big-picture stuff. He’s been wanting to do it for twenty years and he’ll talk to anybody about it who will listen!”

Translation: Seriously. He has my home number. I’m scared.

Though we won’t get the famously scrapped sequel, Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian, we shouldn’t worry about the level of quality you expect from a Michael Keaton picture diminishing.

“It’s a priority for Warners and it’s a priority for Tim.” But he’s keen to emphasise that he doesn’t want to taint the first movie. “I have a huge reverence for Tim and a huge reverence for that film in general,” he promises. “I don’t think we should do it if we shit on the legacy. Michael agrees. So, right now, it remains to be seen. I have a couple of story ideas, but we’re very early out.”

Thank goodness. We don’t need a repeat of White Noise 2. (Shock Til You Drop)

Actor Michael Keaton has expressed interest in reprising his role of Beetlejuice, the ghost with the most. When asked about the possibility, Keaton replied, "Absolutely, that's the one thing I'd love to do again." I would have guessed that the "one thing" Keaton would have chosen to revisit would have been Mr. Mom, or maybe Gung Ho. But that's just me.Considering his Beetle Juice co-star Geena Davis has already expressed interest, it's probably only a matter of time before a studio throws money at yet another 80's nostalgia project. Of course, this is provided Alec Baldwin isn't too busy with "30 Rock," and Winona Ryder isn't too busy shoplifting! Zing! That joke is just as relevant as it was nine years ago! (DeadCentral)

You'd think the rest of the movie would follow Woody and Buzz as tiny tots jam them into various orifices, but instead it appears they're loving their new home. In The Closet Ken, voiced by Michael Keaton, convinces himself he has feelings for Barbie inspite of the new cowboy arrival, and Pervert the Octopus offers up massages (with happy endings, no doubt).  Everything's right as rain until the toys find out their abandoner, Andy, is looking for them. They decide to break out and go in search for the owner who cast them aside like yesterday's garbage when he decided to go better himself at college. What a selfish prick.
