As one could have just assumed, news is circulating that a Michael Jackson biopic is in the works, with Jackson’s estate negotiating with Ivan Reitman’s production company over the rights to his life story.

Knowing how the Jackson clan operates, it’s likely that these talks could take a while. But that hasn’t stopped Irish bookmaking firm Paddypower.com from setting odds on who they think will play the once-black entertainer. Of course, the menu of choices that the site presents is batshit insane, with Johnny Depp and Zac Efron the odds-on favorites. Would anyone really bet a dollar to make four that Johnny Depp will play Michael Jackson in the Michael Jackson biopic?

Of course, the site has no idea who will play Jackson, nor does anyone else, so these odds exist solely to screw people out of their money. That said, it’s a pretty slow news day, and I feel like making fun of something, so let’s examine some of the contenders.

4/1 Johnny Depp

I guess they both have long hair. Johnny Depp has a skinny face, and a penchant for burying himself in makeup, but I just see him as too terribly “different” than MJ for this to make any sense. Of course, if there’s a big project on the horizon, it’s always a safe bet to include Depp’s name in the discussions, but not at these odds.

If Tim Burton’s name gets mentioned, these odds flip to ¼.

9/2 Zac Efron

WHY? Why would Zac Efron even be on this list? Because he’s a living, breathing actor? That’s pretty much the only reason he would be included. Charlie St. Cloud danced in that High School Musical series, but that’s a far cry from playing the King of Pop in a biopic. Also, this seems a good time to bring up that I would love to see any of these adult actors play young, black Michael. Especially if the actor is white. I would love to see Zac in blackface and an afro wig singing “Rockin’ Robin.” I can actually hear NAACP execs snapping pencils as I think about it.

6/1 Usher

He dances as well as Michael, but he looks absolutely nothing like him. And considering his best acting credit so far is as the DJ in She’s All That, we should probably keep moving.

6/1 Jaden Smith

Or Willow. I don’t really know what the difference is anyway. I mean, the best way to demonstrate the path that a damage adult (Jackson) went down is to portray them with a damaged child actor on the same path (either Smith tot). Will Smith could play Joe Jackson, which sort of makes sense. This choice is my odds-on favorite, but far from my personal fave.

8/1 Will Smith

No. Just imagine this for a second. Then stop imagining it because you will laugh too hard and hurt yourself. Well, maybe. It is the new millennium. Excuse me. Willenium.

8/1 Jamie Foxx

He was a good fit for Ray. He’s a bad fit for Michael. Can someone please tell this Irish bookie that not all black people look the same?

10/1 Andre 3000

Personal fave. Right here. I think I could watch Andre 3000 mow the lawn for 120 minutes and be entertained. He can sing, he can dance, he can sort of act, and he looks like a Jackson more than anyone else on this list. Plus, he would probably toss a song or two on the soundtrack, possibly an MJ cover, and that would be amazeballs.

12/1 Justin Timberlake

Just Timberlake can sing and dance but is white. Also, he’s big fan of Michael’s, so I doubt that he’ll be eager to take on this role.

12/1 Randy Jackson

Nope. Randy Jackson weighs like 460 pounds, Dawg.

Let’s see. Jerry Sandusky’s in the news again, slightly more prominently than he was yesterday, due to the fact that he was interviewed by Bob Costas. When he was asked if he was sexually attracted to young boys, it took him over 15 seconds to say “no.” Not exactly the sort of knee-jerk response that fills us with confidence.

There were lots of reasons that it was an awkward interview, not the least of which was that a grown man was on TV being asked if he f*cks kids. But his interview is a step below the truly awkward and awful.

You think we’d make that statement without backing it up? He are some Q&A’s that got the Sandusky thing beat in the awkward department.

8. Joaquin Phoenix

Wow. Little Anakin Skywalker doesn’t want to be interviewed. I don’t know what his deal is, but it would appear that, off-camera, several minutes before the interview, someone went ahead and peed in his Cheerios. Unfortunate stuff. He’s big into editing now, in case you were wondering. And no, he doesn’t hang on to all those stupid collectibles.

IDIOT!

The post 9 Movie/TV Doctors Who Were Worse Than Conrad Murray appeared first on Screen Junkies.

The world is watching the involuntary manslaughter trial of Michael Jackson‘s personal physician, Conrad Murray. It’s off to an emotional start as the case built against the doctor is being presented. As Murray awaits his fate, we’d like to ask who is really at fault here? Clearly, it’s doctors from movies.

Yes, he did give his patient dangerous drugs. Whether he realized the harm they would cause is beside the point, because Conrad Murray could easily be considered a victim too. A victim of Hollywood’s depiction of doctors. With role models like these, it’s no wonder he turned out negligent.

Dr. Evil

You can’t make an accurate list of evil doctors without including Dr. Evil. Turns out that it’s not an unfortunate name, as Evil has been the brains behind several plots to take over the world and extort its governments. Although, he can’t really be blamed for his evil leanings. He was raised by the Dutch after all.

Dr. Christian Szell

As a former SS dentist at Auschwitz, Dr. Christian Szell uses pain as his paintbrush. That and he looks slightly like a giant sea turtle. But back to the pain thing. A skilled interrogator, Szell drills Dustin Hoffman‘s teeth without anesthetic in Marathon Man while repeatedly asking his confused captive, “Is it safe?” Years later, Hoffman would go on to make Meet The Fockers. When will his suffering end?

Dr. Giggles

Easily dismissed due to his persistent giggle and gimmicky methods of killing victims with over-sized medical tools like giant needles, thermometers, Band-Aids, and blood-pressure arm bands, Dr. Giggle gets a bad rap. He’s perhaps the most insane doctor on this list and therefore one of the most dangerous. In one night, his house-calls severely cut down and entire town’s population. I can’t think of any other time where it was so easy to see a doctor.

It’s been reported in the past that director Spike Lee was working on a full-length drama (or, “joint”) entitled Brooklyn Loves MJ. Well now, according to The Playlist, the movie is “not happening.” The movie was set to ““examine the potential community impact of a tribute concert and neighborhood celebration in Michael Jackson‘s memory, as this fictional event might occur in a re-gentrified area of Brooklyn, New York,” and it was rumored to have Samuel L. Jackson, John Turturro, Julianne Moore, and Rosie Perez among its cast. The project made sense since Spike Lee’s love of Michael Jackson is a matter of record.

I’m not the biggest Spike Lee fan in the world, but I respect him as a filmmaker and I think it’s a shame that a movie with that cast and him behind the camera is getting shelved. The article also says that Lee was visibly upset when he answered a question about the movie to the effect that it wasn’t going to happen, which is also a shame. I can’t stand to see Spike Lee upset! It’s not all bad for Spike though, since his next movie Nagaski Deadline is set to begin shooting soon.

(which was clearly a lie), will also direct Thriller. The Hangover writer Jeremy Garelick will take scripting duties. Deadline reports that the plot is being kept under wraps, but "it has to do with the song's folklore, involving Vincent Price and the town he grew up in." What? You take a song with an awesome video involving zombies and werewolves and you turn it into a Vincent Price biopic? Piece of advice, money men. The first clip is a featurette that gives us a glimpse of just how huge this concert tour was going to be and how meticulous the preparation had to be to pull it all off.

The second clip is a string of shots showing how Jackson and his backup dancers put some of the choreography together. Not since… ever… has goose stepping been so cool.
