Mattel Will Be Manufacturing The “Hoverboard” In Time For Christmas

You’ll notice by the lack of “OMG’s” and thousands of exclamation points that this news doesn’t do for me what it should. That’s because we all know deep down that the hoverboard won’t work the way we want it to.

The Hoverboard has sat atop every movie buff’s fictional toy wish list since its appearance in Back to the Future II in a chase scene between Marty McFly and Griff. In the film, it worked by hovering over land, but you couldn’t propel over water just by kicking; you needed a power source.

The item will be released and manufactured, and while this article doesn’t have a price associated with the toy, another site I visited said the price was $120, which seems too much for a skateboard, but not enough for a game-changer like an actual Hoverboard.

Props to Mattel for keeping the quirky, futuristic graphics on the deck. It’s also said to make “whooshing sounds,” which is great, but I think we’d all just prefer one that can fly, thank you.

Fans of the HBO comedy “Curb Your Enthusiasm” know that Larry David can do very little wrong. So it’s a no-brainer that this teaser will leave us all gasping for more. Not only does it give us a healthy helping of Larry David insanity (including, of course, a rolling-on-the-floor physical altercation), but glimpses of appearances be Paul F. Tompkins, Rich Sommer, and Michael J. Fox. Not to mention returning favorites like JB Smoove as Leon and Bob Einstein as Marty Funkhauser. I can’t wait for the new season, and neither should you. Where’s my check from HBO? OK, I’ll settle for free HBO.

Michael J. Fox To Annoy Larry David

In news that should excite all fans of great comedy, the (actually) universally beloved Michael J. Fox will be guest-starring on an episode of “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” Hell. Yes. Here’s what Fox has to say about it:

“Larry moves to New York and takes the apartment below ours.” The Curb subplot finds Larry believing that “I’m being symptomatic just to annoy him — a whole passive-aggressive thing. He’s complaining because I’m shuffling and making noise upstairs. It’s very funny.”

Well, I’m pretty excited about this. And apparently Michael J. Fox’s onscreen dad on “Family Ties” is making a guest appearance in a different episode as Larry’s dermatologist. Listen, HBO – since the world might be ending on Saturday, why not just show these episodes now? (TV Guide)

MTV’s ‘Teen Wolf’ Trailer Features Shockingly Little Wolfsketball

The Teen Wolf I remember from the 80s was all about a goofy kid who gets werewolf powers and uses them to kickass in basketball. I can relate to that, because if I had wolf powers as a teen, I would have played varsity lacrosse before accidentally mauling everyone on the team during evening practice. However, the new “Teen Wolf” reboot series on MTV shows a new generation of high schoolers’ wolf-related priorities. Apparently, they wanna be wolfmen so they can brood around, act pensive with girls and participate in the occasional action/sex sequence where guy is shirtless. In other words, this is Teen Wolf meets Twilight.

Here’s how Executive Producer Jeff Davis (Criminal Minds) describes it, without using the dreaded “T” word:

“When I first talked to MTV about it, I said what if we do it kind of like The Lost Boys with kind of the pace and fun of Buffy. We’ve had comparisons to Vampire Diaires. That’s a very brooding melodrama. This exists far closer to Buffy.”

Uh, yeah. Seems like the brooding melodrama description is right on the money, as far as this trailer is concerned. Speaking of “right on the money,” why wouldn’t MTV want some of that Twilight cash while it’s still floating around there? Werewolves are the new vampires – or so MTV executives hope and pray each night. (Entertainment Weekly)
