Like I told my probation officer, identity theft is more funny than anything, so it’s pretty hard to stay mad at Melissa McCarthy or sympathize with Jason Bateman here. I mean, with the same routine day in and day out, who wouldn’t like to go on a good-natured madcap adventure with one of the stars of Bridesmaids, provided that it’s not Maya Rudolph. She knows what she did.

When Jason Bateman learns that his identity has been stolen by a husky woman in Florida, he does what any sensible person would do. Travels to Florida to hit the woman with his car. That’s the best way to handle those situations, right? One time, a waiter accidentally gave my credit card to the wrong customer and he charged up $300 on it. I hit both he and the waiter with a car. Which really was a priceless experience if you know how to live in the moment.

After sharting her way into our hearts, Bridesmaids’ breakout star Melissa McCarthy is on a roll. The recent Emmy winner is in talks to set up her own script, Tammy, at New Line. The story would follow McCarthy’s Tammy as she embarks on a journey of self-discovery…. with her tag-along grandmother.

Expect to see a lot more McCarthy in the next few years as she swiftly climbs the Hollywood A-list. If Tammy production can get underway before Betty White retires, they’ve got a bonafide hit on their hands. (Variety)

Fat Chick, Dorks Dominate Early Emmys

If the early winners are any indication, this year’s Emmy Awards will be dominated by fatties, nerds, and fuglys. In the interest of full disclosure, I’m a huge dork and my face looks like an orangutan’s ass. As such, I’m allowed to make fun of these people, kind of like Chris Rock can drop N-bombs.

Early winners include noted dork Jim Parsons (Actor in a Comedy Series/The Big Bang Theory), the always rotund Melissa McCarthy (Actress in a Comedy Series/Mike and Molly), and nerd extraordinaire Ty Burrell (supporting actor in a comedy series/Modern Family). In fact, the only attractive person to win thus far has been Julie Bowen (supporting actress in a comedy series/Modern Family), but she managed to beat out the ridiculously hot Sofia Vergara, who makes her look unattractive by comparison. If this keeps up, Steve Buscemi and Peter Dinklage are friggen shoe ins.

Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy are teaming up for what sounds like a modern-day retelling of the James Belushi/Charles Grodin romp, Taking Care of Business. They will star in ID Theft, a comedy starring Bateman as a man who has his identity stolen.

The project originally called for Bateman to have his identity stolen by another guy, but McCarthy won the role when America saw Bridesmaids and realized that girls can be funny too. It’s too bad for Danny McBride. I’m sure he could have practically tasted that role. (Deadline)

Your 63rd Primetime Emmy Nominees

Joshua Jackson and Melissa McCarthy woke at the ass-crack of dawn to announce the 63rd Primetime Emmy nominees. Mildred Pierce leads with 21 nominations, while Mad Men will face off against Dexter, Friday Night Lights, and Game Of Thrones in the Best Drama category while Jon Hamm goes against Steve Buscemi, Hugh Laurie and Timothy Olyphant.

And Louis C.K. got nominated!! Which is awesome. I expected a snub. Usually when Jon Hamm plays a middle-aged man sad about where his life ended up, Emmy rushes to him with a tissue, but Louis C.K.’s raw and unflinching worldview normally gets pepper-sprayed. This is great news for television comedy even though Community got snubbed again.

Here’s a list of nominees who will knife fight one another at the Ivy for television’s biggest honor.

‘Bridesmaids’ Director Paul Feig Talks Melissa McCarthy And Jon Hamm Film

Bridesmaids was a film that kept us laughing from beginning to end and the two unexpected highlights of the film weren’t Kristen Wiig making wacky noises or Kristen Wiig making a lazy eye face. Instead, they were Melissa McCarthy and Jon Hamm. This morning there was news that director Paul Feig wanted to call upon his all-stars again for another project. Moviehole caught up with Feig, who was surprised to hear that the news had broken.

“It was one of those things where I was like ‘Oh, that wasn’t supposed to come out’ but I’m kinda glad it did; I’ve been secretive about it the past few months but I guess I’ve dropped enough hints too. It’s a real passion project; again, I just want to tell stories that don’t normally get told and this is another of those.”

“They’re the inspiration for it”, Feig says of Hamm and McCarthy, adding that the film would be a “very unconventional love story, in the vein of [Bridesmaids]. Judd and I have a very specific storytelling style – it’s very real and out of the reality we’ll try to make it as funny as possible. I’m excited about that.”

How long away is this prospective Hamm/McCarthy movie? “I’m just writing it at the moment”, the filmmaker says, “There’s actually something in the Fall that…is a sequel to a movie that people know but I can’t really talk about it yet; we’re still trying to finalize it. That would be fun. It’s something I’ve wanted to with some actors I’ve wanted to work with.”

“This would be a reboot of a franchise. I want to talk about it but it might not happen because of actors deals and so on so I better remain mysterious.”

Ummmm…. my guess is Ghostbusters. Or something else entirely. Yeah, let’s go with something else entirely.(Moviehole)

It all makes so much sense. Melissa McCarthy is enjoying some success thanks to her show-stealing turn as the oddball Megan in Bridesmaids. The character kept people laughing with tales of her connection to dolphins who saved her after a cruise ship messed up her shit and her off-kilter personal style. She told Conan last night that personal style was inspired by someone we all know.

“Really, when I first read it, the first person that I thought of was Guy Fieri from the Food Network. I wanted to do the shirt, the Kangol. Every scene I would have my glasses on the back of my head. I tried for a long time to convince them to let me wear short, white, spiky hair, and they were like, ‘You can’t actually be Guy Fieri.’ Cut it off at some point!”

Now that she’s pointed out the influence, it’s spot-on. I’d say we should get these two in a room together, but if they were to touch it could rip the fabric of space and time. And I personally refuse to travel back to a time before Panera Bread. (via Splitsider)
