In news that is sure to bum out Marion Cotillard, Anne Hathaway is said to be in talks to once again join Christopher Nolan for his next film. If the deal firms up, she’ll star alongside Matthew McConaughey in Interstellar, a project that deals with theories of wormholes and time travel based on theories developed by theoretical physicist Kip Thorne.

Beyond that, the film’s details are top secret so let’s all assume that this is a big screen adaptation of the Jerry O’Connell science fiction series, Sliders. If this reality makes any sense, Michael Caine will soon join in the role of Prof. Maxmillian Arturo originally made famous by John Rhys-Davies.
There's no way this movie will make sense.

When Christopher Nolan offers you a part, you’d be a fool to say no. And so, Matthew McConaughey has followed in the footsteps of Tom Berenger, Matthew Modine, and Anthony Michael Hall before him and said yes to an offer from the acclaimed director of movies that seem really good at first but later seem overblown and confusing. And so, McConaughey has confirmed he will join Nolan’s next scifi adventure, Interstellar. Thus, we can confirm that we will have fun with this one when it comes time for the Honest Trailer version.

Not much is known about Interstellar except that Nolan will direct from his brother Jonathan’s script which is said to deal with “time travel and alternate dimensions and sees a group of explorers travel through a wormhole.”

Seriously. The Honest Trailer for this is going to be so good. (Star Tribune)

Black goes back to his indie roots.

After a few big budget efforts that didn’t pan out, Jack Black is going back to basics. In Bernie, he re-teams with School of Rock director Richard Linklater to tell the true story of a pleasant, clean-cut man who befriends and then murders an elderly Texas millionaire.

Shirley MacLaine plays the despised widow with whom Black’s mortician strikes up the unlikely friendship. The strongest performance in this trailer, however, goes to Dazed and Confused alum Matthew McConaughey. I watched until close to the end before realizing his character wasn’t being played by Gary Cole. And I’m still not totally convinced.

Also, Jack Black should totally play a live-action version of The Simpsons’ Yes Guy.

Hello, old friend.

This story doesn’t need any snark, nor any particular insight. It stands on its own merit.

In a new music video, Matthew McConaughey has reprised his legendary Dazed and Confused character Wooderson, the man who keeps getting older even though high school girls stay the same age, and who thinks it would be a lot cooler if you had a joint on ya.

The appearance comes in Butch Walker and the Black Widows’ video for “Synthesizers,” a song that sounds just like “Come On Eileen,” but updated for 2012. The song is so-so, but seeing Wooderson again is a flat-out revelation. He’s rocking the same look, and 18 years later, Matthew McConaughey doesn’t look as though he’s changed a bit.

His advice for looking so young?

Just keep livin’, man. L-I-V-I-N.

Accept your fate.

Living in LA, you learn to keep your guard up if your girlfriend or date takes up with an actor. There are rules. First of all, don’t let your girlfriend talk to famous people that are richer and better-looking than you are. However, remember you live in LA, where almost everyone is some combination of more famous/richer/better looking than you. Then move to rule two. Rule two is: Insert yourself into their conversation so that the actor in question knows that you’re her boyfriend and your girlfriend knows that you’re on to her game. It sure as hell won’t change anything, but when they leave together, you’ll sleep easie knowing that you did everything you could.

Well, that’s the real world. Now imagine going up against fictional characters. They’re shrewder and better-looking than real people. You might as well start sobbing now. And keep your girlfriend the hell away from these guys.

6. Aldous Snow – Forgetting Sarah Marshall/Get Him to the Greek

Mr. Snow (Russell Brand) may be the biggest jackass on this list (and this list is rife with jackasses), but he has a very endearing, naïve quality that allows him to steal any woman he wants. He’s pretty much two-for-two, having stolen the titular Sarah Marshall from Jason Segel’s Peter Bretter and banged Jonah Hill’s gf in a bizarre threesome in Get Him to the Greek. If your girlfriend has a pulse and 51% of her limbs, then she’s fair game for Snow.

5. Glenn Guglia – The Wedding Singer

While we don’t see anyone lose their girlfriend to Julia’s fiancé in The Wedding Singer, it’s a foregone conclusion that he will throw back some Alabama Slammers and have his way with her. He’s also the least likely on this list to take “no” for an answer.

I think we all wish that he has taken Robbie’s (Adam Sandler) advice midway through the film and had a few drinks, then driven home.

4. Wooderson – Dazed and Confused

It’s nothing personal. It’s the Wooderson (Matthew McConaughey) way. If (when) Wooderson went after m high school girlfriend, I don’t even think I’d be mad. I’d be all, “That’s our Wooderson! It’s what he does! Psssh! Scoundrel!”

Frankly, if you take issue with your lady sleeping with a mustachioed, toe-headed Matthew McConaughey, just keep her the hell away from him and his moon tower keggers. It’s not like he’s playing his hand close to the vest.

It boils down to this: If Wooderson gets close enough to your girl to bang her, it’s your own damn fault. Seriously. It’s f*ckin’ Wooderson.

It’s hard to believe that it’s taken this long for Matthew McConaughey to be cast as a strip club owner, but the long wait is finally over. In Steven Soderbergh‘s upcoming male-stripper study Magic Mike, McConaughey will play the proprietor of the strip club in which Channing Tatum does his little catwalk on the runway as the titular character.

So we’ve got McConaughey running the club, Channing Tatum dancing in it, then we’ve got scrappy upstart Alex Pettyfer being taken under Tatum’s wing. Is there really so much to learn about male stripping that you need to be taken under someone’s wing? Just do some sit-ups, cover yourself in oil, then act like an asshole. That’s it. Three things.

This film continues McConaughey’s indie streak to five consecutive films, which I guess is a little impressive in its own right, but mostly it just makes me happy because it means he isn’t in romantic comedies with J. Lo and or Sandra Bullock. (Variety)

McConaughey will play a charming fugitive and Witherspoon will play his slightly-less-charming love.

What are they odds that Matthew McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon can get together and star in a film that is an actual drama? The film title is Mud. Really. It’s not like This Love Has Taken Its Toll or …Forever Hold Your Peace. The project is being written and directed by Jeff Nichols.

McConaughey will play a fugitive named Mud who befriends a weird 14 year-old kid (Tye Sheridan) that is hell-bent on seeing Mud escape the law, while Witherspoon will play Mud’s love, with whom he is desperate to reunite. Variety is reporting the film to be a “coming-of-age drama” in the style of Stand by Me. Although it’s not specified, I think the combo of these two and the fugitive storyline lead me to believe that this film just might take place in the South. Spitballin’ here.

McConaughey is on a bit of an indie tear as of late, having wrapped on Bernie and Killer Joe and currently filming The Paperboy. Witherspoon is still doing a whole mess of mainstream studio stuff, but, hey, that’s okay too.

Once again, Tobey Maguire is the least attractive star in a film.

As today’s casting news indicates, Pedro Almodovar can reel in the A-list even as a lowly producer. Matthew McConaughey, Tobey Maguire, Zac Efron, and Sophia Vergara have all enlisted for The Paperboy, an adaptation of a 1995 novel that follows a Miami reporter who investigates the incarceration of a death row inmate. Lee Daniels will be pulling director duty on this one.

Alomodovar’s capacity as only producer is somewhat surprising, given that he has worked with The Paperboy author Pet Dexter developing this project over the past decade. However, the project seems to be left in capable hands with Daniels, who has Precious and the upcoming Selma to his name.

The roles corresponding to the A-list actors have not been disclosed, but I think that McConaughey would make a good journalist, Tobey Maguire is a very convincing sex offender, Zac Efron would make a remarkable murder victim, and Sophia Vergara could be either a sultry Latina stripper or a down-on-her-luck, nude adult film actress.

In case it’s not clear, I’m not terribly familiar with the source material. (THR)

But will he play the role of a dying AIDS patient as Wooderson from 'Dazed and Confused'?

Matthew McConaughey will be playing a Texan. Remember this day, as this only happens in like 63% of the movies in which he is cast. He will star in The Dallas Buyers Club, a film that centers around a man who smuggles in AIDS medicine into the US from Mexico to help himself and other AIDS sufferers in Dallas, Texas. In case you were wondering, AIDS medicine is the most depressing thing that this title could refer to. The film has been picked up by Content Film and will finally see a production after languishing without distribution.

Joining McConaughey in his struggle will be Hilary Swank. Though her capacity in the film is not divulged, I wouldn’t put “wife” outside the realm of possibility.

The film is based on the true story of Ron Woodruff, a Texas electrician diagnosed with AIDS in 1986 and given six months to live. Woodruff managed to hang on for another six years by smuggling in unapproved medicine from Mexico, first for himself, then for others, hence the movie’s title.

The film, directed by Jean-Marc Vallee, has caught the eye of numerous actors and directors over the years, but it wasn’t able to find its way to production. Well, wait no longer, audiences! Actually, you’ll need to wait a year longer. Sorry to get your hopes up.
High school girls, be advised. Matthew McConaughey has AIDs... in his next movie.

High school girls, be advised. Matthew McConaughey has AIDs… in his next movie.

McConaughey has joined the long-troubled production of The Dallas Buyers Club. McConaughey is the latest to be attached as the project has been buzzed by several stars and directors including Ryan Gosling, Brad Pitt, and director Marc Forster.

Jean Marc Gallee is the latest on directing duties with the good intentions of getting this film off the ground. McConaughey will play the protagonist, an AIDs infected electrician who prolongs his six-month death sentence to six years by smuggling illegal medicines into the country to treat himself and other sufferers of the disease.

“It’s not the sort of movie studios are throwing money at these days,” McConaughey tells the LA Times, but he’s confident that it’s “a great script and a great story, and I think it can be a great movie.”

Agreed. We’ll have to see where this one ends up (if at all). I have a feeling it depends strongly on whether or not Kate Hudson will be allowed to play a magazine reporter who cures McConaughey with the healing power of wearing cute dresses.

A perfectly average legal drama.

The Lincoln Lawyer is a perfectly average legal drama. I trust that the book is exactly like this, totally programmed to hit standard beats in the plot. It’ll serve its purpose in theaters just like a paperback novel does.

Michael Haller (Matthew McConaughey) is a lawyer working out of his car, a Lincoln Continental. He’s so slick and smooth talking, he gets a judge to give him an extension while he waits for a client to extend his retainer. Then he goads the client for money for an expert witness, when he really already has the witness in hand.

You learn just enough about Haller to like him, which is the standard cliché. He takes care of his chauffeur, keeping him employed even after he got his own driver’s license back. He has a daughter with prosecutor Maggie (Marisa Tomei), and the only reason they broke up is because they’re on different sides of the court.

The real case is Louis Roulet (Ryan Phillipe), a rich boy accused of beating lady of the night Reggie Campo (Margarita Levieva). Louis is hard to like because he’s so privileged and frequently uses an ignorant epithet for gays. Of course, the case isn’t simply he said/she said so Haller’s values are tested.

The point of the movie is to take Haller from a guy so smooth he doesn’t even need an office to a haggard, disheveled wreck. In the beginning, he manipulates the media and the D.A. but Louis really turns the tables on Haller. If you want to see McConaughey sweat, this is the movie for you.

Haller still does a good job for Louis. He baits prosecutor Ted Minton (Josh Lucas) into revealing an attack on Louis’ mother, so the jury ends up sympathizing. We knew about the attack but how it comes up in trial is skillful lawyering. Also Lucas and McConaughey engage in a drawl off.

The plot is smug and contrived. Everything works out neatly but the film moves through the plot briskly. The courtroom scenes really have no personality. There’s no political agenda or flair like on “Boston Legal.” Even the one-liners like Corliss the snitch’s (Shea Whigham) comments on the stand or Val Valenzuela’s (John Leguizamo) research comments are not funny. The audience sort of laughs because it’s the right time, but they’re not funny.

I thin The Lincoln Lawyer should represent the Fast and the Furious gang. He’s on the road, they’re on the run, can he get them out of trouble? That’s a movie I would see.

The premise of The Lincoln Lawyer makes the movie sound a lot more charming than the third trailer makes it look.

The premise of The Lincoln Lawyer (Matthew McConaughey practices law out of the back of his car) makes the movie sound a lot more charming than the third trailer makes it look. It seems to play as a straight-up legal thriller, albeit with a lot of stars. Additionally, we get Ryan Phillipe at The Lincoln Lawyer‘s bad-boy client, William H. Macy, Marissa Tomei, Josh Lucas, and John Leguizamo.

The trailer does a pretty good job of confusing the hell out of the viewer, so kudos to the producers for that. The big takeaway here is that there’s lots of deception, and these men love to yell at each other. Something tells me that, when all is said and done, the guilty parties will wish they had never crossed…The Lincoln Lawyer. If you’re on the fence, it’s looking like William H. Macy is sporting his funniest hairstyle since Boogie Nights, so do with that information what you will.

It would seem that Josh Lucas has an affinity for period pieces. Or period pieces have an affinity for Lucas.

It would seem that Josh Lucas has an affinity for period pieces. Or period pieces have an affinity for Lucas. Either way, he’s in a lot of them these days. He has just signed on to play aviator Charles Lindbergh in the upcoming Clint Eastwood-directed biopic J. Edgar, with DiCaprio playing the titular role. What does Charles Lindbergh have to do with former FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover? I have not the foggiest idea, but one thing’s for certain: If Josh Lucas was cast to play him, then Charles Lindbergh must have been a very, very handsome man.

Not content sticking to one historically significant character per year, Lucas is also in the running to be no less than Honest Abe himself in the much-anticipated film adaptation of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Lucas seems like an odd pick to play Lincoln, but the entire premise of the movie seems odd, so who knows what will work and what won’t.

Further solidifying the assertion that Lucas has caught “Lincoln Fever,” Lucas’ next role will be opposite Matthew McConaughey in The Lincoln Lawyer, about a lawyer who practices out of the back of his Lincoln automobile. Josh Lucas: One-stop shopping for all your cinematic Lincoln-related needs. (Deadline)

McConaughey gets the case of his career when he's hired to clear Ryan Phillippe after he's been accused of imitating Charlie Sheen.

In this second trailer for The Lincoln Lawyer, Matthew McConaughey plays the finest car-based defender that money can buy. This time around we get an inkling more about the film’s plot and an answer to the important question, “Why a car?” The answer is simple: because offices suck.

McConaughey gets the case of his career when he’s hired to clear Ryan Phillippe after he’s been accused of imitating Charlie Sheen. However, as McConaughey learns, the golden boy isn’t as innocent as he seems. I love how the courtroom scene will undoubtedly play out.

McConaughey: “You need to confess.”

Phillippe: “No.”

McConaughey: “It would be a lot cooler if you did.”

Judge: “Case closed.”

Bailiff cues up Rupert Holmes song and everyone parties in the court room.

FADE TO CREDITS

Matthew McConaughey stars as The Lincoln Lawyer. If he cared about the environment, he'd be a Prius Lawyer.

Never hire a lawyer who works out of their car. That’s just a general rule of thumb. In this trailer for The Lincoln Lawyer, Matthew McConaughey does exactly that — tools around town in a Lincoln while doling out shady legal advice. If he cared about the environment he’d have studied to be a Prius Lawyer.

The film has a pretty diverse cast: McConaughey, Marisa Tomei, Ryan Phillippe, William H. Macy, Michael Pena, Margarita Levieva, and most notably Josh Lucas. What was Brad Furman thinking when he cast McConaughey and Lucas against each other? Doesn’t he know that they can’t be in the same place at the same time? A) it confuses the baby, and B) if they touch, the universe will fold in on itself.

Matthew McConaughey has signed on to star in a comedy, but in a shocking twist, it won't involve Sarah Jessica Parker or the ghosts of girlfriends past. It will, however, involve Academy Award winning director William Friedkin and a script by Pulitzer Prize winning writer Tracy Letts.

Killer Joe, co-staring Emile Hirsch, follows a pair of siblings "who plot the death of their mother for the insurance money." McConaughey will play "Killer Joe" Cooper, a dirty cop hired to do the deed.

Will McConaughey's collaboration with Friedkin (The French Connection, The Exorcist) prove as successful as his previous collaboration with director Tom Dey (Failure to Launch, Marmaduke)? Only time will tell. (THR)

Chillest family ever. Thanks to Kate Hudson, when you think Matthew McConaughey you don't automatically think comedy. You think beach yoga and Rogaine treatments. That hasn't stopped FX from picking up "Kick Ass Militia" from the bare-chested actor's production company J.K. Livin.Based on an idea from McConaughey's long-time friend JR Reed, "Kick Ass Militia" is a single-camera comedy about two brothers who butt heads on their Malibu compound. One is a survivalist and the other a free-loving cult leader. Think of it as "Two and a Half Men" with Ted Nugent replacing Jon Cryer. After hunting him for sport, of course. (Deadline)

Matthew McConaughey needs to get his core in shape because he's producing an animated series with FOX based on his brother's life. One has absolutely nothing to do with the other, but if you're going to just keep living (Matty's motto), you need a tight core."Rooster Tales" follows the world of a beer-swilling, redneck sheriff who marries a much younger woman from Mexico.
