Julianne Hough and Diego Boneta are just two of the stars of Adam Shankman‘s film/ponzi scheme Rock of Ages, but they are the sole stars of the photos in this gallery. So check them out, chilling by the beach, chilling on the boardwalk, chilling in the water — and remember, they’re getting paid for this.

The movie also stars Tom Cruise, Mary J. Blige, Alec Baldwin, Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Bryan Cranston, and Malin Akerman. Can’t wait until we get som Paul Giamatti beach pics! (ComingSoon)

UPDATE: In sad news for Alec Baldwin, it turns out that he is doing Rock of Ages after all, according to Deadline. Below is the original article, which you can now make fun of for being inaccurate in retrospect.

Adam Shankman, director of Rock of Ages, has been shamelessly bilking Hollywood star after Hollywood star into appearing in his movie. Now, finally, it appears that at least one person has broken free of his seductive grasp – star of”30 Rock” and those ads for Hulu, Alec Baldwin.

Baldwin has dropped out after being confirmed by Shankman back in March. He was supposed to play “Dennis Dupree, the owner of the Bourbon Room, the Sunset Boulevard nightclub at the center of the movie.” I guess now they’ll have to get Stephen Baldwin to do it instead?

Some of the other actors not as savvy as Alec Baldwin include Tom Cruise, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Russell Brand Paul Giamatti, Malin Akerman, Bryan Cranston, and Mary J. Blige. Well, you know what they say – never give a sucker an eve break or smarten up a chump. (The Hollywood Reporter)

Bryan Cranston is blowing up faster and hotter than a meth lab explosion. He’s the bad guy in the Total Recall remake, he’s bringing his voice to Batman: Year One, and now he’s been cast in future SNL punchline Rock of Ages in the pivotal (how many pivots can one movie have?) role of “the mayor.” Cranston is joining a cast of names more famous and less talented than he is, including Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin, Mary J. Blige, Russell Brand, and Paul Giamatti (OK, the “less talented” part doesn’t go for Giamatti).

More specifically, he’s husband to the Anita Bryant/Tipper Gore-type played by Catherine Zeta-Jones who wants to ban all rock and roll. Oh no! Will rock and roll be able to survive this cultural onslaught? How about rock or roll, separately? I think rock has a bit more vigor than roll does – I hope roll pulls through OK. I’m sure they’ll both be OK – this is America, after all.  (Deadline)

Your little sister might be excited that Diego Gonzalez Boneta (“Pretty Little Liars,” “90210“) will officially star in Rock of Ages, the Broadway-musical-to-movie based on 80s songs you’re really sick of hearing at karaoke. The cast includes folks you know, like Tom Cruise, Mary J. Blige and Alec Baldwin, and now, one guy you probably didn’t know existed. Well, he does.

Boneta plays a young, wide-eyed traveler to Los Angeles named Drew who dreams of “making it” as a rock star. Yeah, we’re gonna make it. Make our dreams come true in LA. Yeah. Of course, Drew becomes a bus boy, which seems like less of a “dream” and more of a sad reality. Hopefully that’s addressed with the inclusion of the beloved Foreigner b-side “Seems Like Less of a Dream, More of a Sad Reality (Megan’s Song).”

Russell Brand, who is in every other movie these days, has also officially joined the cast. So does that mean James Franco will be wedged in there somehow too? Don’t stop believin’, you guys.

Adam Shankman is directing Rock of Ages for New Line. (Deadline)

Future Janis Joplin dress-up party attendee Amy Adams recently got an Academy Award nomination for her uncharacteristically serious role in The Fighter, and now rumor has it that she’s following it up in the most logical way possible: A musical comedy with Tom Cruise. Adam Shankman, the movie’s director, is reportedly courting Adams for the part he originally offered to Anne Hathaway, which she had to decline because of her duties as Catwoman. Here’s some info on the part:

“She would play an uptight journalist who intends to eviscerate Stacee Jax with an expose. A seduction ensues instead, and after they duet to the Foreigner song I Want To Know What Love Is, nature takes its course.”

If this solidifies, Adams would be co-starring with Tom Cruise, Mary J. Blige, Alec Baldwin, and Russell Brand. So if you like the idea of seeing those people singing 80s pop tunes, get excited. (via Deadline)

Warner Bros and New Line decided on release dates for their two upcoming tentpole films. So, no, they’re not just gonna sit on an executive’s shelf as multi-million dollar dust catchers. They’re coming to theaters.

Let’s start with Rock of Ages. The cliche karaoke soundtrack turned Broadway musical turned feature film directed by Adam Shankman hits theaters June 1, 2012. Phew. For a moment there, I stopped believin’. Rock of Ages stars Tom Cruise, Mary J. Blige, Julianne “I’m From ‘Dancing With The Stars’ ” Hough and Alec Baldwin.

Meanwhile, Jack The Giant Killer, the Bryan Singer helmed fairy tale adaptation, shimmies down the beanstalk on June 15, 2012. It’s just got to steal a bunch of giant treasure first. Jack The Giant Killer stars Nicholas Hoult, Ewan McGregorStanley Tucci and Ian McShane. McAwesome cast. (TheWrap)

As everyone who saw Take Me Home Tonight knows, the 80s are inherently hilarious. But the producers of the upcoming Rock of Ages have decided to hedge their comedic bets a little by finally casting long-rumored comedy heavyweight Alec Baldwin as “Dennis, the owner of the ‘80s rock club The Bourbon.” The producers also seem to think the movie needs a little bit more “rock” to go with Baldwin’s “age,” casting the also-previously-rumored-to-be-attached singer Mary J. Blige as “Justice Charlier, the owner of the Sunset Strip’s exotic dance venue the Venus Club.” And Mary J. Blige isn’t the only musician who’s landed a role in the movie – country singer Julianne Hough was previously cast as “Sherrie, the small town girl who travels to Los Angeles with dreams of making it big and falls in love.” I wonder if she’ll make it big?

Baldwin, Blige, and Hough are joining Tom Cruise and MAYBE Anne Hathaway and Russell Brand, who haven’t signed on yet but are rumored to be attached to the project, which is set to begin filming in May. (via The Playlist)

I do not watch “Dancing With The Stars,” but if I did, perhaps I’d be dancing around my tiny apartment with the knowledge that Julianne Hough is starring in a major motion picture. I don’t see many musicals, but if I did, I migh break out into song about the Broadway musical Rock of Ages being Hough’s big new starring role. However, since I’m not big fan of either thing, I will remain calm and unexcited.

Hough is starring alongside Tom Cruise and Mary J. Blige as “a girl who comes to Los Angeles looking for the dream.” Ughhh. Tom Cruise plays a rock star named “Stacee Jaxx.” Ughhh. The film’s director, Adam Shankman (Cheaper By The Dozen 2 – Ughhh), describes Hough as being “the most open, sweet ray of sunshine of the world…” Ughhh. He goes on to announce that the lead music producer in the film is from”Glee.” Ughhhhhhhhhhhh.

Wow, where did all those “ughhh”-saying zombies come from?

So I probably won’t be catching this one, you guys. If I want to hear Journey and Bon Jovi songs, I’ll just play them in my gloriously plot-free, “Glee“-free iTunes library. (TheWrap)
