IGN debuted a new red band trailer that has tentacles and body parts twisting every which way. Though it doesn’t seem like it comes close to touching John Carpenter‘s version with a ten-foot arm/tongue pole, at least it seems to have created some gross imagery.

We now have a clear idea of exactly whom Abraham Lincoln will be hunting in Timur Bekmambetov‘s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Rufus Sewell has signed on to play Adam, the leader of the Southern vampires.

Britain‘s version of Jeff Goldblum is best known for his starring role in the cult favorite Dark City, but you may have also not seen him in the recently ignored film The Tourist. In Lincoln, he joins the previously cast Benjamin Walker, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Anthony Mackie, Dominic Cooper, Alan Tudyk, and Jimmi Simpson. The more I read about this film, the more excited I get. Sounds like a really awesome revisionist history story. I’d go out and read the book, but it’s a book. Yick! (Variety)

Those hoping to see Eric Christian Olsen’s head bitten off by a Norwegian’s open chest cavity will have to update their calendars. Universal has removed The Thing prequel from their 2011 calendar for the time being. The fifth installment in The Fast And The Furious franchise, Fast Five, is being moved up to take its place with an April 29th release. This will allow Universal to kick off their summer movie season a little earlier than planned. It also ensure Fast Five a bigger opening by pulling it out of the X-Men: First Class / Green Lantern sandwich it was originally squeezed into.

Though The Thing hasn’t found a new release date, I think this is a good thing for fans. Whether it lands in August or the Halloween season, at least filmmakers will have more time to fine-tune the film in an effort to diminish the scrutiny it is subject to from the purists. The move was mainly motivated because the gloomy tone wouldn’t play well with summer audiences. It makes sense that Universal wouldn’t want to put something sad on screens during that season, but have they never see Paul Walker act? (LA Times)

As a recent and thoroughly wide-eyed convert to the cultish Church of Pilgrim, I was no doubt predisposed to drool over every moment of the Scott Pilgrim vs The World DVD bonus features. And drool I did, nearly the whole way through. Come to think of it, there might be something wrong with my mouth.

From concept sketches to storyboards to a generous offering of gags, bloopers, and deleted scenes that kept me smiling from start to finish, this first half of the production alone was a worthy supplement to the most original film of the year, and an enticing reason to swap out your Pilgrim torrent for a good old-fashioned store-bought copy.

The features only get better once you dive into the commentary — four separate rounds of discussion including remarks from Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jason Schwartzman, director Edgar Wright, and creator Bryan Lee O’Malley. Not typically one to sit through two hours of actors and filmmakers talking about themselves, I was genuinely impressed by the level of discussion here; the commentary revealed minute details about the film’s rich visuals that I hadn’t noticed before and nifty factoids about the oh-so-indie musical score, while delving deep into the process behind transplanting the world of Scott Pilgrim from page to screen.

Whether you’re a fan of the film or a staunch and exceedingly hip member of the “the comic book was better than the movie” camp, this is a collection of features worth checking out.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World releases on DVD and Blu-ray November 9th.

With The Thing prequel headed to theaters whether you like it or not, it was only a matter of time before we got a look at how they’re planning to diminish the memory of the excellent John Carpenter film. These pics show stars Joel Edgerton, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Mr. Eko, and Eric Christian Olsen running around the Norwegian camp and killing an off-screen The Thing with fire. I hope you’re all well-rested because the casting search for Spider-man’s girlfriend has finally kicked off. We’re going to track this thing over the next few months until director Marc Webb and Sony cut through all the bullsh*t and send out an official press release. Oh you better believe there are going to be rumors galore that we’ll report on until you beg for mercy. But even then we won’t quit because this is Spider-man damnit! You NEED to know every. Single. Little. Detail about every decision made and every actress cast aside. So let’s get the hell on with it then. I’M PUMPED!

The first batch of frontrunners to possibly share an on-screen kiss with Spider-man are Teresa Palmer, Imogen Poots, Emma Roberts, Ophelia Lovibond, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Lily Collins. Haven’t heard of half of them? Yeah, well you hadn’t heard of Andrew Garfield either but he’s Spider-man now, isn’t he? My vote is for Lily Collins simply because she’s the spawn of Phil Collins. Maybe she can get her dad to write an original song for the film. Eeeeeeeeeee!!! (Vulture)

Mary Elizabeth Winstead, the girl next door, gets a punk rock make over in this week in Scott Pilgram VS. The World. A distant cousin to sexy 1940s screen siren Ava Gardner, Mary has inhabited the female heroine roles in previous installments to the Die Hard and Final Destination franchises.

Four young actresses are in the running to play opposite Casey Affleck in The F Word. Rebecca Hall, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Rose Byrne, Deborah Ann Woll are expected to camera test for the female lead in the quirky, romantic comedy that appeared on the 2008 Black List. It tells the story of a couple who would like to date, but decide to be friends instead while wrestling with their attraction to one another over a long period of time.

Personally, I think all of these actresses are perfect choices for the project and would like to see their careers take off. Sadly, there can be only one. It all depends on who tests best on-camera and freaks out the least when a naked Affleck crawls into her bed in the middle of the night. I think Rebecca Hall has a leg-up on this one. Universal released the first of what director Edgar Wright tweeted would be seven Scott Pilgrim vs The World featurettes. This one nicely eases you into the series by focusing on the world of Scott Pilgrim through insight by Wright, Michael Cera, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead. I personally don’t want to watch anymore clips about the film because I’d like to still be surprised when I actually see the film. Regardless, the new footage got me even more jazzed, so I guess it was worth it. You win this time, studio marketing division.

The international trailer for Scott Pilgrim vs. The World has HIT!!!! the Interwebz. The new footage and campy banter from Superman guy and "Arrested Development" Anne (Cowinkidink Alert!: She’s Michael Cera’s girlfriend on the show) are increasing my interest in this film. Not quite sure why we need to see a graphic representation of Scott Pilgrim‘s bladder being emptied, but I’ll go with it. Perhaps in a sequel down the road we’ll be privy to his prostate bar, a function those Flomax geniuses are probably toiling away on at this very moment.

The Scott Pilgrim vs. The World Facebook page hit 100,000 fans at 1:30am this morning, and that means the full length trailer has been unleashed. A big thank you goes out to all the drunks who stumbled back to their homes last night and stamped barbeque sauce on their keyboards as they eagerly "Liked" the fan page.

Scott Pilgrim, based off the graphic novels by Bryan Lee O’Malley, follows a guy (Michael Cera) as he tries to defeat a girl’s (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) seven evil ex-boyfriends in order to make shiz official with her. His world becomes a big video game full of 1-Ups, vibrant color trails, and onamonapias. According to the film’s tag, the studio wants you to believe  that it’s on like Donkey Kong, but unless one of the ex-boyfriends is a giant ape in a dress tie, I’m going to have to insist that it’s on like something else.

The Scott Pilgrim vs. The World teaser is finally here, and it is marvelous, my darlings. Edgar Wright‘s kinetic style is abundently clear throughout every frame, split-screen, and smash cut. My only grievance is that Michael Cera can’t seem to stop playing Michael Cera. He kicks serious ass in this film, but in between the comic strip infused action sequences Michael still shyly tries to grasp the concepts that Mary Elizabeth Winstead lays out for him. I’ll be rooting for him all the same because God knows Chris Evans needs to be taken down a peg after securing Captain America, but I hope he erases the elipsies from his speech pattern by the end of the film, a.k.a. grows some balls.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World Teaser Trailer – Watch more Funny Videos

Last month we posted the casting breakdown for Matthijs van Heijningen Jr.’s prequel to The Thing, and today there’s word that the protagonists have been selected. Scream queen Mary Elizabeth Winstead and rugged Kurt Russell-proxy Joel Edgerton have signed on to be drenched in blood and guts. Winstead will play Kate Lloyd, a Ph.D. candidate who travels with Norwegian scientists to Antartica to investigate an alien craft frozen in the ice. The alien escapes and begins systematically ripping the scientists limb-from-limb. Edgerton plays Sam Carter, the badass helicopter pilot who doesn’t trust them queefy doctors and trusts his own gut over their rich-boy "science." He eventually teams with Winstead to destroy the Thing.

I’ve got mixed feelings about this prequel. I like this casting and am eager to see who else signs on, but this group of filmmakers has their work cut out for them despite their talents. The original was so good that the bar was set impossibly high. Also impossibly high, anyone who thinks this will measure up to the original. (THR)

As you can see, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World takes place on the set of America Gladiators. Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Jason Schwartzman stand stoically as judges in the far background, while a dude breakdances in the middle ground. I’m just not sure if they’re judging the dancing or Michael Cera’s lightsaber skills. Maybe the guy taking a dump near the edge of frame knows.

Edgar Wright’s Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is about a Michael Cera type character played by Michael Cera who has to fight the seven evil ex-boyfriends of the girl of his dreams. That’s a lot of effort to bag some tail. She better be really bendy. (via /Film)
