Jessica Chastain, having made a name for herself as a bit of a hard-ass in Zero Dark Thirty, will be skewing a little more feminine (one would think) in Blonde, as she will play Marilyn Monroe in the biopic.

The fact that Chastain has red hair has not escaped my attention, and one can only hope that the producers will get ahead of this issue with wigs, dyes, or perhaps some sort of ping-pong ball suit and Andy Serkis.

Blonde has been a passion project of director Andrew Dominik, who made a name for himself with The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, and then sullied that name a little with Killing Them Softly. The part was originally offerd to Naomi Watts, but considering Watts had absolutely nothing to do with the assassination of Osama bin Laden, it was quickly take away from her.

R.I.P. Jane Russell http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/r-i-p-jane-russell/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/r-i-p-jane-russell/#comments Tue, 01 Mar 2011 02:42:58 +0000 Geoffrey Golden http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=30797 Russell is best known as Marilyn Monroe's pal-around gal in 'Gentlemen Prefer Blondes', but she was no second banana in the boob department: my favorite of the departments.

Back in the 1940s, an actress could get into a lot of trouble for showing a bit too much clevage. That’s what happened to super popular sex symbol Jane Russell (Gentlemen Prefer Blondes) in her debut movie The Outlaws, directed by urine-connoisseur Howard Hughes. The film was completed in 1941, but finally shown in wide release in 1946 after dealing with censors. Somehow, I don’t think that would have been a problem today, with Katy Perry shaking her big cans in Elmo‘s furry face on “Sesame Street.”

Russell is best known as Marilyn Monroe‘s pal-around gal in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, but she was no second banana in the boob department: my favorite of the departments. Bob Hope once said that “Culture is the ability to describe Jane Russell without moving your hands” and referred to her as “the two and only Jane Russell.” When your breasts can best be described in “zing” form, you’re probably doing okay.

Russell died at 89 in her Santa Monica home. (Cinematical)

She was big fan of haystacks.

Look at Michelle Williams as Marilyn Monroe http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/look-at-michelle-williams-as-marilyn-monroe/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/look-at-michelle-williams-as-marilyn-monroe/#comments Fri, 26 Nov 2010 18:32:00 +0000 Col. Longshanks http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=9229 Here's the first official pic of Michelle Williams as Marilyn Monroe in My Week With Marilyn. She's not quite as thick as the official blonde that gentlemen prefer, but I can see her embodying the role quite well.

Here’s the first official pic of Michelle Williams as Marilyn Monroe in My Week With Marilyn directed by Simon Curtis. The film follows Marilyn’s “friendship with young Englishman Colin Clark while in the country shooting The Prince and the Showgirl, as well as her tempestuous relationship with director/co-star Laurence Olivier.” Oooo sounds spicy. I hope the two Englishmen find out about each others’ tryst with Monroe. They’re bound to have a fiery polite exchange of words. Someone might even get slapped with a glove.

So what do you guys think? Does Williams make a good Monroe? She’s not quite as thick as the official blonde that gentlemen prefer, but I can see her embodying the role quite well.
