David O. Russell is putting together a film about Abscam, a large sting operation that involved politicians, foreign nationals, law enforcement, and some generally unsavory folks. And he’s titling it American Bullshit. That sounds like fun, right?

Well, this thing has gradually gone from good to great with the likes of Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Amy Adams, Louie C.K., Jeremy Renner, and most recently, Jennifer Lawrence.

It’s hard not to get excited about this cast, director, and premise, which is exactly why Mark Wahlberg is checking his phone like a a fourteen year-old Asian girl, wondering if he’s in a dead cell zone or something because there has to be a good reason why Russell hasn’t called him yet.

Following the success of most everything that Louis C.K. does, CBS has found a way to take his Louie concept and allow for it to be aired on network TV: Take away the profane star and replace him with the family-friendly, but still-hilarious Jim Gaffigan.

Gaffigan has gotten a pilot deal to do a single camera sitcom with CBS based on a fictionalized version of his life. And he’s getting some help from Rescue Me creator Peter Tolan. Gaffigan seems to be one of the few personalities that can actually liven up a family sitcom while still keeping it in the bounds of good taste.

Not to put the cart before the horse, but this sounds like the rare network sitcom announcement that we can be a little optimistic about. Nice work CBS. Nice work Jim Gaffigan.

Nice work EVERYONE.

Jim Gaffigan, The Anti-Louie C.K., To Adopt C.K.’s Distribution Model http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/jim-gaffigan-the-anti-louie-c-k-to-adopt-c-k-s-distribution-model/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/jim-gaffigan-the-anti-louie-c-k-to-adopt-c-k-s-distribution-model/#comments Fri, 17 Feb 2012 20:30:48 +0000 Penn Collins http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=245459 It will be Gaffigan's crassest material yet, earning him a PG rating.

A few months ago, Louie C.K. made a lot of noise by self-releasing one of his stand-up specials for $5 online, serving as a guinea pig for how comedians can distribute their work for, you know, money.

It was an unmitigated success, though C.K. hasn’t disclosed how much money he made off the venture, but he was kind enough to post a snapshot of his PayPal account showing over $1 million had been grossed by Live at the Beacon Theater.  While it’s unclear whether this model will achieve widespread success, it’s encouraged another comedian with a ravenously loyal fan base, Jim Gaffigan, to take the same approach, with one dollar of the five given to The Bob Woodruff Foundation, a charity benefitting veterans and their families.

You can read Gaffigan‘s post about it here, but he gives credit to C.K. for leading the way on this initiative.

I hear this time, Gaffigan’s really gonna give it to Toaster Strudels.

Louis C.K. Is A No-Good Commie http://www.screenjunkies.com/tv/tv-news/louis-c-k-is-a-no-good-commie/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/tv/tv-news/louis-c-k-is-a-no-good-commie/#comments Fri, 23 Dec 2011 21:20:39 +0000 Jame Gumb http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=240712 What kind of asshole gives all his money to charity? For shame!

Here’s a story that will make you upchuck your eggnog. After making over $1 million in just 12 days with his own online comedy special, Louis C.K. is giving $780,000 of the profits to employees and various charitable organisations, and keeping only $220,000 for himself. What an asshole.

I felt uncomfortable about having that much money, so I kind of broke it in four pieces. Two fifty went back to pay for the special, like I replenished my company. Another two fifty went to people that work for me, that work really hard. I gave them all bonuses. And then I took another 280 thousand and donated it to a bunch of charities.

Anyone who feels “uncomfortable” around money is a god damn communist, just like those Muppet sons of bitches. Felt bastards.

I never viewed money as being “my money” I always saw it as “The money” It’s a resource. if it pools up around me then it needs to be flushed back out into the system.

Oh, look! The guy who makes shit jokes thinks he’s an econ professor, now. The only system that needs flushing is the septic system, which has been over run by Louis C.K.‘s liberal bile.

See, this is why I only watch comedians like Jay Leno. Now there’s a man who knows what to do with his money. I sleep better at night knowing that the bulk of his cash is going to mantain a fleet of classic cars rather than to help some foreign kids get clean drinking water.

Oftentimes a sitcom will add an adorable child to the proceedings in order to goose ratings or introduce some broader appeal to the show’s palette. As the above clip shows, this is definitely not the case for the next episode of Louie, airing this Thursday, September 1st, at 10:30 PM ET/PT on FX. This visit from a niece is unlikely to win over your mom (unless she’s already a Louie fan), since the kid’s disposition is closer to a T-1000 than Cousin Oliver.

FX has announced their summer line-up and it looks like another summer will pass without my getting a tan.

“Wilfred” premieres June 23rd at 10pm. The story follows a super-depressed Elijah Wood as he befriends his neighbor’s dog, whom for some reason only he can see as a man in a dog suit. Well, we can also see him as a man in a dog suit. Does that mean we’re all super-depressed?

“Louie” comes back for a second season of getting pissed off at things directly after “Wilfred” at 10:30pm.

And “Rescue Me” returns for its final season at 10pm on July 12th. After that, Adam Ferrara will be absent from television until the next time that Denis Leary has a show. (THR)

Fou funny people. Four normal chairs. One nondescript room. That’s what you’re getting with HBO’s upcoming series “Talking Funny.” Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock, Louis C.K. and Ricky Gervais are the four funny people. These are some of the best stand-up comedians of all-time, as well as the guy who made Bee Movie. I keed, I keed – Seinfeld is obviously one of the greats, but seriously, Bee Movie is terrible.

Above is a trailer for the series, and below is the brand new poster. The trailer looks good – clearly, we are in for some solid, joke-related chat. The poster I’m not so into. I find it weird that this is a show about comedians talking to each other, and none of them are facing each other in the poster. Gervais is maybe sort of looking Seinfeld, but Seinfeld is too busy looking at nothing to notice him. At least I know from the trailer that they will occasionally make eye contact while speaking. Lucky Louie: FX Orders Second Season from Louie C.K. http://www.screenjunkies.com/tv/tv-news/lucky-louie-fx-orders-second-season-from-louie-c-k/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/tv/tv-news/lucky-louie-fx-orders-second-season-from-louie-c-k/#comments Wed, 30 Nov -0001 00:00:00 +0000 It looks like the second time's the charm for comedian Louie C.K. Collider is reporting that FX has renewed his show, "Louie", for another 13 episode season. After striking out with his first sitcom, "Lucky Louie", C.K. has found a winning formula. Although "Louie" has been uneven and somewhat clunky, it seems to be getting better as it goes along. Besides, the show could consist of Louie C.K. sh*tting on a bunch of war orphans, and it would still be funnier than 99.9% of the crap on TV.
